Default Wii's rendering hardware

This is a question geared moreso to the audio/visual philes so if you don't have tuned eyes and ears, maybe you should ignore this post.

I was just curious if anyone else has noticed that the Wii displays Virtual Console titles slightly differently than there original console counterparts. Specifically I've noticed that the lines around sprites and enviornment are much more refined and rigid (they sort of have a DS quality to them) In a way, the way the Wii displays these titles almost looks better. If anyone can give me an in depth synopsis of how and why this works, I'd appreciate it. I've also heard that many Sega Genesis games sound slightly worst than in there original form (hard to imagine, I know) I appreciate all the help.

I can't speak to the graphics, but it's entirely plausible that the audio in the Genesis games suffers (even slightly) from compression. I'm one of those people who can't listen to mp3s in 128kbps (I don't even like 192kbps). Genesis was renowned for its high-quality audio capabilities (for the time), so compression may simply have a more pronounced effect on its games than it does for games on other systems.

Well I had/have (me granda might have thrown it out ) a Sega Megadrive (European Name for the Genesis) and I can say I haven't really noticed any differences. But I may be a little less smooth, I'm not sure. Send me a Pal Genesis and I could check it out.
That has actually really ****ed me off.... I had the Original OutRun DAMNIT!!!!!!!!!!!!

In Answer question, yes there is a difference, but it is very insignificent.

Are you using component cables for your Wii? If so, it's not that the games are any different than they were in the past, it's that now they're being displayed with optimal settings instead of what the most TVs and AV wires available in the 80s and early 90s were capable of outputting. It's sort of like if you were looking at an image through a pair of dirty glasses. Once you clean the glasses off the image will appear much sharper but it's still the same image, you're just viewing it the correct way with the clean glasses.

I actually use s-video. Supposedly it goes something like: coaxial=standard, composite=good, s-video=very good, component=great, HDMI= best.

Please correct me if I'm wrong.

It is something like that.

And about the Genesis Sound, it's not the compression, as the Genesis' sound is not stored as a streamed media fromat, but was generated by a chip during runtime (like all old consoles without CD or other means of mass storage).

As the Genesis' Sound capabilities where quite expansive and advanced for its time (FM Modulator and an additional Z80, or something like that), the emulation is as of yet, not nearly as perfect, as fans and purist will be satisfied with, NES and Super NES Sound Emulation is a lot further in Emulation and sounds much more like the original Hardware.
