Default Wario Land: The Shake Dimension / Shake It! / シェイク

//

Another thread for related discussion, to see who has bought it,
what people think of it etc...

Me... I seriously love this game! I think it is the best 2-D platformer
since "Lunatea's Veil" (quite the claim, I know). Although, this was
not always the case- I bought it on the same day as de Blob and on
my first play I got to the 3rd world (out of 5!), thought it was a waste
of money for being ridiculously easy and left it on a shelf to be played
later.

I finally picked it up again yesterday and decided to try completing
some of the missions (similar to the MegaMan 9 challenges) and now
I am completely addicted- I played for a straight 8 hours. The missions
really extend the shelf life as a lot of them require re-visiting a lot of
levels, using different strategies, following different paths etc...

As for thinking the game was too easy- how wrong I was! After
completing "storyline mode", the secret maps are then available for
unlocking and in those is where the game really shines- the missions
become very creative and difficult and some of the level designs are
genius. My favourite would have to be where you rescue a Merfle on
the second screen and have to do a Max Fastostity Dasherator run
that is twice as long as normal (and twice as hard!).

Anyone who is not sure about buying this- if you liked Super Mario
World, I think you will enjoy this... they are both quite easy at first
but exploration reveals some really challenging and rewarding gameplay.

I would be interested in seeing what others think of it and what
progress they are making, ta.

-m.

Thanks for that detailed recommendation. It's on my rental list. The reviews had been a bit lukewarm so it's good to see someone on the board who has played it and enjoyed it.

I wouldn't mind picking it up eventually, but it's very close to the bottom of my wishlist.

Not to mention it is a really beautiful platformer; well, as beautiful as Wario will ever get.

I think it was a bit underrated by critics.

I love this game...

What max herman failed to mention are the boss battles.
They're so much fun. I'll admit the first 3 are pretty easy, but they're all heavily stylized and quirky making you want to replay each one (especially your fight/race right the second boss in the Wario hotrod).

Yeah, I have no idea why so many sites rated it around a 7. The only thing that's missing in my opinion is are transformations, Vampire Wario and others would've been nice to see again.

Another thing worth mentioning is the music which is absolutely fantastic: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N6X_OdxCrTM

The Game is great, I imported it shortly after it's japanese release, I still didn't clear it or saw the end credits, but the time I played it, I had much fun. Really nice graphics, great music.

It's a gem of Wii Disc Software and I recommend it to any 2D Jump 'n Run lover.

I own it too. Got it shortly after the European release. It's a really fun game. Some bosses can be a bit tricky but most of them have been quite easy so far.

The retro style is great. I haven't beaten the game but I think it could've been longer. Like, 8 worlds, at least.

I bought it with de Blob on release too, and though I enjoyed de Blob more, this game is certainly underrated. The crystal clear graphics, brilliant music and the overall gameplay mechanics work really well. I'm up to the 2nd world atm, but I'll get back to it after de Blob

It looks like a fun game to play. Does it have the feel of an old school platformer? (besides the graphics that is!)

The game plays much like a standard Mario platformer. However, Wario is a lot slower and definitely moves appropriately for someone of his bulk (except when he dashes… Fat people can’t even roll downhill as fast as that man sprints). Eventually working your way to the “end” of the level you come across a checkpoint and a large metal holding canister (for some reason they remind me of those Robo Eggs Robotnik uses to capture the animals in the Sonic games). Once you grab the canister an alarm sounds; you’re to shake the little bird creature inside free and get out of there, ASAP. The level then goes from puzzle platformer level to the rolling ball scene in Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark. Having sometimes less than a couple minutes to escape, you must make a mad dash back to the first screen of the level in time or lose all your hard earned treasure. Once you make it back the game gives you a score based on: how much treasure you collected and how fast it took you.
A general breakdown of the gameplay. It's not like a Mario platformer, since you're: more "floaty," not in a rush, and pretty damn hard to kill. It's just based on a Mario platformer (if that makes sense).

Speaking of Wario's size, he does have quite a lot of muscles. At least it LOOKS that way.

Default Wario Bike

I'd like to start by saying that I loved this game. I've beaten it, and I'm currently sweeping back through it to clear the missions. I must say that I would have liked to have seen the Wario Bike, though. I know it's usually associated with the WarioWare games, but at least one level with the bike would have been nice. Still the puzzles are brilliant, the extra stages are fun, and it captures the Wario Land style perfectly. Highly recommended.

I am also playing this game now, have to say its pretty nice for a platformer, so much moves and so much to do.
Till now I recommend this game to any player that likes platformers.
Will inform more when having played it more regulary.

I just started playing it a couple of weeks ago and I'm totally addicted to it. I currently have 100% in stages and treasure and 71% of the missions. If you actually try to get 100% in everything this is a very long game and well worth the $25 Canadian I got it for.

Yes I think many people underestimate this game. I like it more than the 3d one on the Cube, I also like the sidequests.

I recently got Wario Land and it's good. Better than Wario World anyway.
