Default Mario Kart Wii

This game has the possibility to be one of the best, if not the best MK games yet.

Personally I'd like GC & Classic Controller support & to see these tracks return
NDS - Waluigi Pinball, Tick Tock Clock & Bowser Castle
N64 - Royal Raceway, Sherbet Land & Yoshi Valley

I'm sure they'll handle the new tracks and cups nicely.

What characters would you like to see, old and new? And which stages would you like to see return, in a similar fashion of the Retro Cups on the DS?

I want to see all the tracks from the original game, and I'd love to see an option for downloadable tracks.

I just hope this game won't play like Mario Kart Arcade GP (when using the Wii Wheel). Other than that, looks great.

Yeh I would like that

I think the characterspecific karts of the DS version look dumb regardless of how much better they are.

I think the stats should be based on the racer not the cart, like the older games.

I seem to recall that the GBA version has lots and lots of tracks, so it shouldn't be too hard to get a sizeable number on the Wii.

Downloadble updates such as tracks carts and racers will make the game immortal

Along with online multi and they'll never need to make a new mario kart for a long time.

wouldn't it be cool if you could make your own trakes just like Mario vs DK 2. But you'd have to test it out first to see if it's possible, add jumps secret ways to go and pit falls, ah that'd be sweet. Oh oh then send the teake to your friends or use that stage to battle people online. but if you did that it'd be unfair you'd know the trake but the other racer wouldn't. But it would work with friend codes, you could have a special slot where it shows the traks your friends made. Sorry I'm not a good speller.

I thought the SNES original had the best controls. Simple and responsive, but with a lot of tactical depth. I feel that versions since then have messed around with that simple formula too much at the expense of what made the first game so playable, so I'd love to see the new game move back to the control scheme of the original, but I doubt it'll happen.

A new track I would like to see is "Speedy Paper Island" based on Paper Mario

Another idea for a track is "Mute City 0" that is closly reasembled to the Mute City in "F-Zero" only a bit more mario like.

Post what you think about these ideas

I was wondering what everyone thinks about the addition of motorcycles? I read somewhere that each character will have a motorcycle, go-cart, and type of crazy car. I like the classic go-cart myself but I don't mind the addition as long as the gameplay doesn't change.

I think the motorcycles are a good addition, as long as they're not too much faster than the karts, it's something different after all, just like Mario Kart DS was the first to have online multiplayer.

And Mario Kart Wii has what 12-player raceing online. But I hope Nintendo takes a little something from every game and puts it into this one.

I thought Mario Kart DS nailed the formula. The only thing that needs to be done is a way (albeit a skillful one) to counter blue shells. The weapon balance really needs to be tweaked. However, I think the power slide has been perfected and has never been as fun as it was in the DS version. 12 player online will be madness and is much better than just 4 obviously. I really don't know how I feel about the motorcycles yet. The MK series needs a refresher and hopefully this will play into that fact. We will just have to wait and see how it plays out.

I like the idea of a track editor and would be a great step forward for the series if its executed well. It's going to be hard to top MK DS but it can be done cause there is still room for improvement in almost all aspects of the game.

You can avoid blue shells in MK DS by snaking as soon as the shell is about to hit you. It's pretty tricky to do.

Hmmm...I didnt know that! I also heard that if you drop a bob-omb at exactly the right time it can blow up a blue shell but I've never been able to do it or ever seen it been done before.

I like snaking. It's what seperates the people who are willing to put time into the game and the casuals. I don't like the fact of computer assisted item distribution (people closer to 1st get weak powerups and people closer to last get more powerful ones). It pretty much takes all the skill away from the gameplay. Staying in first place should be rewarding. True, a balance is needed but not to the extent that it is taken to. You don't even wanna be close to first place until the last lap. It makes the gamer rely too much on randomness than skill. A truly horrible player can win just by getting a lightning bolt in eighth place, use it, get another pickup which is bound to be powerful and then just coast on up to first with yet another overpowered item. It completely makes skilled driving a waste of time. But snaking adds a layer of depth the Mario Kart series desperately needs. If the gameplay wasn't focused so much on the heavy reliance of items then it wouldn't be necessary. Besides everyone can learn how to snake its not like its only limited to people who "cheat". Its just like any other game if you are willing to put the time in you will be rewarded. And man does it suck to be outsnaked.

If that was the case it wouldn't be Mario Kart, anymore, which has always relied on a heavy use of items.

Don't get me wrong I love the items. I just don't think they need to favor them more than good racing skills. A healthy balance is all the only thing I'd like to be implemented into a Mario Kart. I love MK I just wish it had some improvements here and there. Nothing even close to game breaking though.

For once, I'm going to agree with Pegasus. It would not be Mario Kart with no items.

I look at it this way, there are way better realist racers on the market....not for the Wii but for other systems. Grand Turismo comes to mind if you want skilled realist racing with no items.

Back to the motorcycle topic. I think its a little funny that you can use motorcycles in a game called Mario KART.

Who cares? They're mixing up the gameplay, if you don't like it then don't use them.

Whoa whoa whoa. You guys are starting to twist my words around. I didn't say there shouldn't be any items. I just wish it didn't force the player to rely on them as much as it does. And I hate simulation racing. Just because I want a more healthy balance of items and racing skill doesn't mean I favor simulated racers. There is still loads of skill involved in arcade racing which is what I enjoy. I love Mario Kart. Always have and always will but I just think after the original SMK the balance of racing and item usage was disrupted. It didn't ruin the series for me but it still made me wish to go back to the original balance of things.

I guess items are bad in some ways but its like brawl with items even if your losing the fight one item can change the whole brawl around which makes it more challenging. And If you have the worst kart and your in last place, certain items can make you easily in first. It kind of makes the game more of a challenge. (and more annoying) Because if your in first with the craziest care ever it's kind of boring just to stay in first the whole time and know the there's no way anyone could ever catch up to you. But when there's items and you get smoked by a red shell, or wasted by the blue spiky shell, you have to try your hardest to make it back into first place, and it's just more funner. But also there's those annoying times when you get hit by an item right before the finish line, and the person in second passes you and wins the race. then you get angry and throw the wiimote on the floor and it smashes into a million pieces. so honestly Items are good and I wouldn't want to get rid of them.

I hope Mario Kart Wii isn't like the old onse where you can only unlock a few things. Maybe this one will have a create your on track and character that would be cool. I wonder if it will have new characters hopefully. Also maybe it will have downloadable tracks and characters when they become available. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

IGN's first impression on the game. Sounds like it's going in the right direction, even though I still wonder about the motorcycles.

Note: One will be able to choose from wiimote to gamecube pad as a control option.

I think pacman was only in the arcade version because Namco worked with Nintendo on that game. I'll doubt we'll see him again.

Track maker would be interesting. I have not heard or seen much about this game except for motorcycles, control schemes, tricks, and wi-fi. For getting released in April, you would think Nintendo would start leaking more and more about MKWii. Maybe they'll say more about it from GDC.

That has been my big complaint. There has been about 2 videos (both horrible camera shots at conventions) and a bunch of still pictures taken of this game. Back in like 1996 this would be a gold mine for game development news, but today, even games like 'Nickelodeon Presents' gets at least one gameplay video 'on the floor' somewhere or sends their video to some internet news place.

Especially with Brawl being out, you'd think Nintendo would be trying to fight for some coverage for its next big game.

But yeah, this game I am extremely excited about. Never really got into Double Dash or Mario Circuit. But I'm hoping this one will fix everything those games kind of had wrong (although many think Double Dash was great). I'm really looking for a Mario 64 enhanced with Motorcycles and new levels. I would be happy if they just went back to items, skidding and simple racing. I know they are doing new stuff like jumping and all this so we'll just have to see...oh wait, we can't! No videos!

With the news of kart coming to Europe before brawl you would think they would crank out the videos, new screen shots, and game details at least in Europe.

The only Kart that I got into was 64 because I didn't own a SNES and the Double Dash didn't do it for me. I think with Double Dash it was the dual character and the goofy looking karts. I really like Mario Kart 64 and Diddy Kong Racing though. My friends and I used to play those for hours.

I'm hoping the motorcycles and tricks don't screw stuff up....maybe they'll turn out cool.

Finally, someone has put up some videos of the game. But in true IGN fashion, IGN was a dick and only put up the videos in their exclusive 'insider' service.

Thankfully, not minutes later the videos appeared on YouTube. Enjoy.

The stage in the first video looks really cute. Reminds me of the good old days of Super Mario Kart for SNES. If the rest of the game is that simple and streamlined like the classic original, I am sold on it.

I'm really stoked, as this game, from the little I've seen so far, is starting to turn out exactly as I've hoped it would be. More getting back to what Mario Kart 64 was about, just trying to polish its gameplay and update it to the Wii's graphical capabilities. While also adding new ideas that won't break the original games (meaning Mario Kart series) concept.

If anything, the major EAD games as of late seem to have been harking back to the past more than trying to re-invent the wheel, while still coming up with new ideas where it's appropriate (Mario Galaxy/New Super Mario Bros are two good examples). Leaving their big 'innovations' to original whole games and things like Nintendogs/WiiFit.
