Unhappy Wii Online? Dvd Player?

I've heard alot of storys saying that Wii will have online play and get a cool
DVD Player. but WTF? Why dont I have online play and why dont I have a DVD Player?

Will the DVD Player have a Blue-Ray?
Will the online play let you use a Head-Set?

Can someone please tell me when this stuff will come out.

ANSWER PLEASE! This is really strange you know.

Online play already exists in some games.

DVD playback should be possible. I believe they will release either a firmware update, a paid DVD Player software from the Wii Shop or more likely a new revision of the console itself.

Blue-ray playback is not possible with the current Wii (as it does not have a blue-ray drive) and even if it did there would be very little point. Blueray is used for High Definition media and the Wii can not output in true HD.

A while ago, I think it was at E3 2006, a Nintendo associate said that DVD playback would 'require more than a firmware upgrade' and that a Wii with DVD playback will be avaiblible by the end of this year.

However, that was a while ago before the Wii was even released and I feel confident that Nintendo could release a DVD channel or something that could let us watch our favorite movies.

Also, online play will not use a headset, but it is free. Only certain games can be played online such as Smash Bros. or Battalion Wars 2.

I really could care less about the DVD playback function; I already have a DVD player.

As for online play, I would expect a lot more titles with such a function within the next year, most of them coming from third parties.

So you are saying that the Wii has a "DVD Drive" but not the "DVD Software"?

The game discs themselves are nothing more than DVDs. While there might be a possibility of movie playback with a firmware update, it is also quite possible that the actual hardware is missing something, hence the existence of a company installing mod-chips to allow DVD playback.

Even though that I've already got a DVD player and an HD DVD player, I'm actually hoping that Nintendo gives the Wii DVD support in the near future.

Yeah, I have a PS2 and a multi-region DVD player already; I don't need the Wii to play DVD movies too.

I don't much care about the dvd player really. It's the online play i want. Nintendo should release a minigame type thing on the wii shop channel where you could play online with people.

There's no reason why not. A Wii disc has more or less the same data storage capacity as a DVD. It's just not in a DVD format. GTA doesn't make use of any DVD features besides the storage, so there's no reason it couldn't run off a Wii disc.

Who doesn't own a DVD player already? I'm glad they didn't include one in the Wii because the price would have been higher. You can buy a cheap DVD player now. There is no need for one to be built into a video game console. What's the reason you buy a console for? I buy consoles for the reason they are made....to play games not to watch movies. The way I look at it is like this, if you want an expensive machine with movie playback and all this other crap, get a PS3. If you want a video game machine, get a Wii.

MARIO PARTY 9 ONLINE?

Yes, Mario Party is a 4 player party game, not an online game.

I really don't see how the main party mode multiplayer can work online.
The new boards and better minigames made MP8 more fun.
The point is, an online multiplayer mode wouldn't make MP9 more fun.

Yes, there could be some extra minigames, like, who is the best in 10 rounds of random minigames.
This could be a decent online challenge but it's not what i wish for. It's nothing at all.
People should realise that Mario Party is a party game! A full house, your best friends, coke and chips, alc and druqs, and it's fun.
Alone and online = no fun! You could just play single player instead.

Nintendo needs to concentrate on other franchises when talking about online:

Metroid Prime Arena, Animal Crossing, Puzzle games, MMORPG's and new franchises

@dk_xcalibur:

I don't own a DVD player. I want one in the Wii regardless of your opinion! And I don't want to buy a PS3 to watch movies.
I want a DVD player in the gaming machine of my choice!
And it would be much better on Wii. The remote would be perfect to navigate the menus.
Then everyone could just sell their old DVD players that take away too much space anyway.

But it's not necessary - I don't need a DVD player in my Wii because I'm more a gamer than a movie watcher.
But if it had a DVD player channel, I would buy it because I would use it and then I don't need to buy a standalone DVD player.

I'm not saying Mario Party would be necessarily a better game because of an online feature. It just would be nice to have that option, that's all. And I totally agree that games like it are best played with a bunch of pals talking smack to each other.

If Nintendo is pushing the Wii to become a significant part of the consumers' lifestyle (with interactivity, family play, Wii fit, etc.), then there's no excuse to not have the Wii being able to play DVDs.

From a family perspective, think about it. Start the night off with a family title, finish it off by watching a family movie in the Wii.

The question really shouldn't be if, but when will they announce it.

You know, the Wii already has a homebrew "WiiVD" software you can use to play DVDs on your Wii. There was a disk you iserted (with the WiiVD software burned onto it) into your Wii then eject it and place your DVD in for it to play. It works like the Freeloader disks and what not, but seriously, just buy a cheaper better DVD player.

I'd still like a DVD player in my Wii for easier accessibility. For example, I could be playing Super Mario and then decide I want to compare it to the Super Mario movie (OK, I wouldn't really do that, but you see my point).

And as Stifler said, Wii would play and even bigger part in a family's lifestyle by including a DVD player.

Well said Spore. More effort into Online play is the way forward. I bought my Wii to play games on. If I want to watch DVDs I tend to use my DVD player.

Oh, a DVD player would be nice to have, but not at the expense of another nifty feature, like more online play.

I would like the DVD option more. This would allow me to free up space near all my other electronic devices. Not to mention remove wires and free up an outlet in the power strip and some RCA jacks on the TV and get rid of a remote.

I would be willing to pay up to $20 for that.

I typically don't play many multiplayer games so the online play is not as important to me.
