Default Rate the Wii games you own!

The meaning of this topic is to see what we, members of VC-Forums, think of the released Wii games. Rate your games out of 10 and I'll put an avarage of the games in this post. It's as simple as that.

When it's your first post, please give me the following information as well:

- Your age
- The amount of Wii games you own
- How many Wii games you have beaten
- How many Wii games you have completed (100&#37
- Your favourite Wii game
- Your least favourite Wii game

What is the standard we should use for rating? I mean, I know some people don't like that everything below 5 basically all means crap when using the 10 point system on most gaming sites/magazines. Is this different, or how does this work?

Since Yasume is the only one who has rated games so far, maybe we could change the system to something better and ditch the school approved system...Maybe a guide to what the ratings mean for all of the newcomers.

This. We need one consistent system for everyone to follow. A 6/10 for one person may mean below average while a 6/10 for another may mean slightly above average. Anyway, I don't mind if it follows the school system where everything under 6 could be seen as "failing", I'd just like to know if that's what we're all following.

Disagree most heartily, as expressed in the rate the VC games thread.

The number 6 is obviously in the upper half in a set of numbers ranging from 1~10, clearly indicating something with a 6/10 can not be bad.
(I never thought of it in some school system crap sense. We don't have such a system here.)

I disagree with what said.

Not only because I always and generally disgaree with what says,

but because disagreeing with

is wisdom and heaven.

I think a 5 scale rating would be good. Everyone can understand that, 1 is terrible, 2 is bad, 3 is good, 4 is great 5 is excellent. You could even allow points as well (4.5)

If you have points, it's not much different from a 10 point rating system.

How are terrible and bad different? How are great and excellent different? Why are there two ratings for bad games and three ratings for good games? Etc. See my post in the rate your VC games thread to see exactly why I don't think working hard to attach names to numbers in a rating scale for this kind of project is fruitful or worthwhile.

Jogurt the Yogurt
Age: 29

Wii games owned: 81
Wii games beat: 13/81
Wii games 100% complete: 1/13

Favourite Wii game: Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn
Least favourite Wii game: I don't understand; see VC thread.

Boom Blox
Rating: 5/10

This game has an interesting concept/gimmick, but it becomes quite repetitive, and sometimes the physics don't work as well as they could/should. It's also a Wii game that tries really hard to make good use of the motion controls, but doesn't quite work out in some cases (it makes you work too hard, missing the point of gesture-based mechanics). It gains its points for the initial idea, the first few rounds of fun, and the multiplayer.

Safecracker is an atmospheric adventure/puzzle-mix PC-port.
Basically it's what the name suggests: it's a safe cracking game.
You have to solve about 30 different puzzles (open 30 different safes) in a mansion to find the safe with the million$$$inheritance.

I bought it because it was part of the 1+1 BONUS PACK. In the first place I just wanted Sam & Max *Season One*.

Sam & Max alone was just 5€ less, so I thought Safecracker is worth the 5 extra euros, and yes, it was.

Still I think my other 5/10 games PANGYA and Rockstar's Table Tennis have more meat and replayability to them thanks to multiplayer.

Samba De Amigo -5/10

The reviews were not wrong. The controller sensitivity IS an issue and does affect the gameplay. There are moments but despite all the brightly coloured visuals and funky (if weird choice of) music the game just seems to be lacking fun. If you want an arm flailing rhythm game you'd be better off with downloading Helix via WiiWare.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories - 9/10

This game has had a mixed reception but for me it is one of the best games in the series and one of the finest adventures available on the Wii.

The nightmare sequences have divided reviewers and players alike but I thought that they captured the feeling of panic and desperation perfectly. Another criticism levelled at the game is the perceived lack of variety of the monsters. To understand the nature of the monsters you have to play it all the way through. For me, being chased was scary, what was chasing me was largely immaterial!

The true emphasis in the game is on story and exploration. You can blast through the game in a matter of hours but by doing so you'll miss the immense amount of detail that has gone into this game. Go into the diner and you can read the menus. See a phone number on a bill board and you can phone it. The town feels like a town rather than a collection of locked doors. If a character offers to drive you somewhere then you actually get in the car with them and they'll talk to you. It adds to that immersive sense that you wouldn't get if it was done as a simple cutscene and then cut to location.

The game is short by modern standards but I think people are missing the point. The game length is just right to tell the story. Any more would be padding and detract from the atmosphere of the game.

What makes the game is the replay value. Contrary to what some reviewers have said your choices do matter. Your answers to the tests, how you interact with characters and even what you look at and who you phone will have an impact on your game and ending. You can only really appreciate this on a second playthrough. I've met different characters and faced different puzzles. Harry's reactions have changed and even the messages I receive have changed in character and tone.

Highly recommended for fans of atmospheric games. It's more a psychological thriller than a standard horror game. It's unsettling rather than scary but it will get under your skin far more than any set of cheap scares could.

Boom Blox - 7/10

I thought that this game made excellent use of motion controls and was a good option for demonstrating the motion capabilities of the Wii.

It had a good variety of levels but the single player mode suffered from a horrible difficulty spike towards the end (kitten escort mission!). The level edit mode adds to the value especially when you can redesign a level that's annoying you into a very satisfying series of intricate explosions.

The multiplayer is the game's true strength and allows access to a full range of gameplay modes rather than forcing you to unlock them through the single player mode.

Dead Space: Extraction - 7/10

A fantastic and atmospheric game that has an involving story line coupled with frantic and strategic shoot outs. Head shots won't save you this time.

The extra comics add to the Dead Space mythos and the challenge mode allows you to bypass the plot and confront wave after wave of rabid necromorphs.

Recommended for anyone looking for a 'mature' title on the Wii that is more than just swearing and gore (although there is that too).

Baroque - 6/10

This game is 'Marmite'. It is a an action rogue-like where you navigate randomly generated dungeons and battle weird meta-beings wilst collecting all manner of items that you can eat, throw or combine for different (and deadly) effects.

When you die you start at the beginning with nothing. Back to level 1 and no items or equipment. There are ways to retain your items later on but dying is part of the game and the plot. After each death (or successful run) you gain access to more of the story and the dungeon will get deeper.

Whilst this sounds horrible, if you do get into it then it can be an addictive experience as you learn more about the characters around you and what happens if you open certain boxes or combine items. You can save after successfully escaping each floor so it is suitable for quick bursts of gaming as well as long slogs of hack and slash and throw action.

It is a PS2 port of an old game and it shows. The graphics are scrappy but the design of the meta-beings makes up for this. It also has a pleasing industrial rock soundtrack. The story is very loopy and if you want any hope of deciphering it you'll need to play through a few times. There is no hand holding for advancing the plot but there is a very helpful tutorial dungeon to introduce you to the many intricacies of the game.

Definitely a rental due to the love it/hate it nature of the gameplay.

Updated 'till post #15. Keep 'em coming.

@Jogurt: "Your least favourite game" means the least favourite game you have played. You don't really have to own it.

Good you only updated to #15.

I've changed two scores.

Muramasa: The Demon Blade drops down from 9/10 to 8/10.
I really like it, but ultimately the gameplay is too repetitive for a 9/10.

Silent Hill: Shattered Memories drops down from 10/10 to 9/10.
It's a perfect experience, but it's just a tad too short. I wish it was longer.

The list is going from best to worst. Games that have the exact same score are alphabetized.

Interested to hear what you think of Cursed Mountain though. it's very cheap here and I've thought about picking it up.

NBA Jam 9/10 (-1 point for the lack of online. No HD can be let go since the faces are like filtered photographs).

Metroid: Other M didn't work properly?
I haven't encountered any glitches of any kind. Everything ran smooth and perfect.
Sending it off to repair is not the game's fault but the Wii's (disc drive's) fault.
Everything about the game was right. For me it's a true Super Metroid 2.

Cursed Mountain can take awhile now, as I don't like playing horror games when I'm alone. What I have played so far makes this game very creepy and exciting (these ghosts are damn scary), so only weekend sessions with friends or my girl on that game. Plus Yossarian's package arrived today. 3 openworld games that will occupy me gaming-wise for at least the rest of the month.

I was referring to the glitch that was very much the games fault whereby you become trapped in an area if you backtrack at one point and can't get out meaning people had to send off their SD card for a patch, but I guess you didn't encounter that problem.

Yes... In fact, I'm carrying the intentions of getting really good on the Wii version (with the classic controller) so I can smoke my friends on the PS360 version on day one.

That's valid. I suppose it is. There's at least one game from each genre I like. I guess AC is as far as I get into MMORPG, which isn't far at all now is it?

The Godfather: Blackhand Edition

After 40 hours of gameplaytime and completing the main tasks of the game, there's still stuff to find, stats to rise, and just fun to be had running driving around New York looking out for the last secrets (film rolls to unlock movie sequences from the original motion picture) and some safes and rackets I've missed. I failed to gain 100% bonuses in the missions, so I can't raise all stats to the max. Have to do it better next time. Anyway, this game got me addicted and there's lots of stuff to do at every corner. The controls are pretty good, the navigation is pretty easy thanks to a helpful map and lots of stats tracking.

Still, Bully is the best openworld experience on the Wii since the world is more compact, complex and vivid. The Godfather's scenery often looks copied and pasted, with just minor differences in graphic design.

8.5/10
