Galaxy 2 Discussion (may contain spoilers)

So I have picked up my copy of Galaxy 2 and thought there should be a topic where we can discuss the awesomeness of this game.

I have only found 16 or so stars, but I have already beaten every known star in world 1. I find this game to be so much fun! Highlights for me include the new cloud suit and the rock suit. Can't decide which one is cooler!

Also, I like the coin collecting where you have to feed the dude X amount of coins so he can open up a new part of the level. So far I am super impressed!

How about you lot?

I have played this game for some level and I really enjoyed what I've played so far.The first one is great. every level I have played is as good as the best levels in SMG. Galaxy 2 is more diverse and engaging than 1.

I'm going to assume I don't have to hide spoilers here. The Mario 64 throwback level was a big letdown for me. They could have done better than that. At least the music was great.

I have 51 stars, so far it's addicting, but not amazing. I haven't found anything that wows me like the first one, basically because there really isn't anything new about it. I also don't like that the maximum amount of stars per galaxy is 3. With this amount you never really get into the galaxy and it becomes less memorible. So far the music isn't amazing either, the only track that's really memorable is the SMG remix. And I found Starshine beach to be bland and empty. There honestly arn't many Sunshine refrences in it other than the characters and the fact that it's a beach.

It's better than the first, it's just nothing new.

Just wait for the final Bowser dungeon. I think that composition is incredible. Anyway, 94 stars in. I'll be seeing what happens after 120 tomorrow.

Can't wait. Oh and I know this thread gives a warning for spoilers already but if you're going to share the secret of the 120 stars I'd appreciate it if you used spoiler tags.

Im stuck on one of the comet stars where you have to kill all the spiny shells with a rainbow star in under a minute. It is flipin hard!

That one offered me a bit of trouble, took me about 5 trys. One thing you've got to love about this game is how many ways there are to die. You might die one way and avoid it the next time but die from something new.

The first time I just missed too many, second time I couldn't find them all, third time I ran out of stars etc.

I enjoy the speed runs where you have to beat the entire level in like 20 seconds. of course you find little stop watches that increase your time bank but it still can be challenging.

Those are ones I am liking as well. I am up to 39 stars after 40 min of playing today. I am hoping to get a day where I can just play for a solid couple of hours.

It doesn't do that. It's more of just a grind. You'll see what I mean once you get there.

50 stars in and not really challenged yet. Miyamoto said this would be hard? Not dissapointed, still tons of fun, but I am ripping through it.

I'm at 70 stars now, the difficulty is starting to come, but it's still fairly easy.

It's getting funner though.

I only felt about 4 or 5 of the normal 120 stars to be a real challenge. It definitely isn't as challenging as Nintendo or reviewers have been letting on.

I must say that I think Cloud Mario is my favorite suit, I mean for all Mario power ups. It's just awesome.

75 stars in and it is still fun! Getting a little more challenging but nothing I can't handle yet. I really enjoyed the Chompworks Galaxy! I thought it was really creative.

The 2nd Chimp skating challenge was pretty hard for me, but I got it in the end...

The music and level design is getting better and a bit more challenging. Although this is the kind of challenge I expected at 20-30 stars not 90 stars.

Just beat it and have 20 stars to go. Good show on that last Bowser encounter.

I'm having a lot of fun as 2nd player. While 2nd player in SMG1 was limited to picking up star bits and stunning smaller enemies, in this game you can also knock over or kill enemies, as well as pick up mushrooms, coins, air bubbles, and whatnot. It helped a lot on the level with the super slide, which has two 1up mushrooms and lots of death.

(2nd player can also tickle the fat luma's belly, and harass Luigi.)

Just beat the game with 108 stars (The most you can have when you beat bowser). Super fun! Now I have to get those last 12 and the 120 green stars!

I beat the final Bowser fight today, I now have 115 stars. The fight was a little disappointing, it was alot easier than the first. The ending was as cool either untill Rosalina showed up. That just blew me away. The starship appears and the old hub music starts up. Ah, it was great. I was pretty excited, I thought you could spend the rest of your time on her starship. But of course it didn't happen and I went back to the Mario head. The special World is more challenging and more satisfying.

I haven't gotten anywhere near as far as you guys, but as the first 3D Mario game I've ever played, color me impressed. This game is really fun. I can't wait to try Super Mario 64 (Super Mario Galaxy 1 will have to wait).

EDIT I hate to be so negative so soon, but I have just hit the part which is just a massive drop in quality. The first water world? Not very fun. The controls are awkward and just bumbling through it was a pain. But it got worse. I did the part where you feed the star 15 coins and what do I get rewarded with? A stupidly assinine level where I have to chase a ****ing bunny around and around. Now I already know some of you probably found this extremely easy, but I did not, nor did I find this fun, and I can honestly say doing this (star) has been one of the least enjoyable expiriences of my life. Just the combination of that stupidly annoying music (which was so repetitive), the "What the **** is the point?", and just the general awfulness of it ****ed me off. I ended up watching some video on how to do it; call me a n00b now, I did not want to waste more time on this awful part of an otherwise great game.

I'm curious to see your impression of the game when you beat it. I liked it, but it would have been amazing if I never played Galaxy. You're missing out on some nostilagia. The game has some Super Mario 64 music along with some Sunshine stuff, but that shouldn't effect you too much.

As for that mission, don't worry that's the only one like that in the game. That mission was ment for Galaxy veterans, I don't blame you for finding it hard. But yeah, the swimming in this game isn't as good as the first. There arn't many water levels in the game but here's some tips. Spin underwater and you'll go faster, and if you see a green shell grab it and you can ride it underwater and go faster.

Thanks for the help. I'm getting more used to the water level, but my main problem is that when you surface, it's quite easy for enemies to hit you without you being able to do much about it. According to Spore, that nostalgiac stuff is crap in this game, so would I be right in assuming I'm not missing much?

Yeah, I did the bunny thing before I knew that you could do that. After I did that, I went up to the top of the tower, and oh, the kind NPC tells you how to ice skate. Well jee, a little late there, pal. At least that helped me realize that my suffering was more of an inclusive thing and not really a problem with the game.

Yea. I ran and ran after that bunny and was like WTF... Then i figured out the skating thing. The chimps skating challenges are fun too.

Wait, wait, wait. You beat the mission without skating? Congrats, that's hard.

The nostilagic factors are mainly music, that's it. Most of it is from Super Mario World anyways.

I thought this game was a bit too nostilagic for my tastes. There were times were I felt they were just to lazy to reinvent stuff so they just re used. Music expescially, the games music was so medicore compared to galaxy 1.

No, actually I looked at a video guide. Pretty unimpressive stuff. Super Mario World has my favorite soundtrack of a Mario game, so I liked when they used it in SMG2.

Finally completed this fantastic game with 120 stars collected and the first 11 green stars. Hope to have the remaining green stars collected before Friday. Believe it or not, there were only two stars that got the better of me for some time. The ? star where you have to destroy all the boxes and the monkey challenge of 10,000 points on the Honey level. All in all this is a far superior game to SMG 1 and I actually found this to be easier than SMG 1.
