Stopped watching half way through, I was sold from day one anyway.

Plus I was dissapointed with the number of bosses I hadn't already seen in videos for Mario galaxy so I'd like there to be some surprises left for me in this one

I with Ouenben, I don't want anything ruined for this game, so I'm going to resist watching the trailer.

I don't feel Mario games hold any inherent surprises to begin with. Trailer was pretty cool.

Trailer looked quite similar to the old game with one interesting new mechanic (other than Yoshi).

I'm also presuming that the appearance of a regular from the series means that this one does have a story now after all.

Looks more the same as the original with new stuff added. Which is no bad thing considering the original was fantastic. And it looks even better too. If this is the same quality with a harder difficulty, then I will really like this. This is one of the few Wii games I am actually really excited for.

I won't hold out for the May/June launch dates though. Knowing Nintendo there is chance this might get somehow delayed.

Well, it is a main Mario game, unlike Super Paper Mario with its 6 month delay. Not that I'm saying they won't delay it over here, but yeah.

That dragon boss looks awesome.

It looks great, which is no surprise because so was the first one.

I'm a little disappointed they're making such a similar game when the original, I felt, left little room for improvement anyway. Then again, more Mario Galaxy is still worth buying even if that's all it is.

I know it seems very un-Nintendo to make such a similar sequel but in all honesty when a game is as good as SMG its insane not to want more of the same and I'm kind of bemused as to why the company has taken so long to realise this. The production costs for SMG are so huge in comparision to something like DS Brain Training (which outsells the former) that its got to be sensible business to get the maximum you can out of the engine.

If I had my way we already had a Super Mario Galaxy Trilogy.... and 2 sequels of Super Mario World on the SNES, two sequels of Super Mario 64 on the N64 and two sequels of Super Mario Sunshine on the Gamecube. They were all lost opportunities. A waste. Instead we got 8 Mario Partys, and 27 Mario sports games and more mediocre stuff no one asked for.

Story wise and that yeah nothing major usually but still I dont like seeing most of the bosses and cool levels I'll be fighting/playing before I play the game.

I gave up on SMG because it was too hard for me. But I will probably buy this sequel anyway...and get SMG again

Me too! Easy enough to get through, but too hard to do all the extra stuff. Us old guys can't handle all this newfangled 3D stuff!

You ol' grumps!
Don't tell me you break your fingers playin' Mario Galaxy.
I turn 29 in a few months, and I still beat every game that comes under my claws.
And Mario is one of the easiest series out there to my humble opinion. Especially Galaxy.

What's up with you, specially LinkFan and Jogo, you even buy twice as many games as me, for what?? What do you play that makes you think Mario is kinda difficult? I mean, where do you find the games that are easier than this, I don't see (m)any!

For me, Super Mario Galaxy is the easiest on 3D series.

In opposition, the 120 shines on Super Mario Sunshine I consider hard to get.

My reflexes aren't what they used to be. Twilight Princess was the last game I beat. I quit Mario Sunshine because it got too hard, I never beat Mario 64 past the first stage, hell, I never beat Super Mario Bros.! The first Metroid I beat along with all Zeldas except OoT. Difficulty is not the main reason for these, as I jump from one game to another and when I go back, it's been so long since I played I have to start over due to my bad memory of what I was doing and what needs to be done...I guess my attention span has suffered along with my memory and reflexes.

I agree, but then I don't think it would be possible to count all of Nintendo's lost opportunities on the legs of a millipede.

As for Super Mario Galaxy being hard. Tish, pshaw nonsense. I'm an ancient 31 and beat it 120 Stars with Mario and am a fair way through Luigi.

The only truly tricky levels were Luigi's Purple Coins which I had to do by following a youtube vid and the one where you have to beat that big stone boss with the black boos with only one hit to kill you.

Sunshine was the hardest 3D game I think.

Well, to be fair, that's because Super Paper Mario needed localization. I mean, Nintendo could release the Japanese version of SMG and it wouldn't hinder gameplay in the slightest.

I don't think it's what a sequel is supposed to be (an overall improvement), rather that they're expanding on some of the gameplay concepts in SMG.

I know this is kinda left field, but wouldn't it be interesting to see Nintendo develop a new franchise using the SMG engine? Seems like it would help alleviate the risks a little, and Nintendo really should make a new franchise instead of relying on the old greats all the time IMO. 'Course, it's unlikely that they'll do that...

At least we got a couple of Mario RPG spinoffs...those are cool.

Isn't that the general consensus? Super Mario 64 wasn't that hard, so I'm kinda curious as to why Sunshine would be. Level design? Less useful abilities? Pure *****ery?

Sunshine was harder because...

1. Yeah, level design was much more advanced in Sunshine. Of course. That's one thing.

2. And then you had more buttons to use. There was a switch button to use the different water packs, and an analogue L-Button you had to press a little to run while shooting, or to press hard to shoot water and then you could aim with the analogue stick. I loved that, Super Mario Sunshine was the game to made the best and most innovative use of the Gamecube Controller. Unfortunately so many buttons to use wasn't that easy for many people. Yeah, but whatever, it wasn't that hard and everyone needed to practice the new analogue buttons a little.

3. Stars that were a lot more challenging.
My favourite thing were the many blue coins skttred everywhere.
You had to find them all to have 120 stars, (you needed to exchange 10 for a star I think) so each of those blue coins was worth to be collected. Behind every nook and every corner, deep under water, high in the air, in birds, windows and walls and hidden paths. I think there were about 100 blue coins and they enhanced challenge, longevity, excitement and fun. You can say, SM64 and Galaxy had "only" 120 challenges, but Sunshine had 240 or more. It was the last Mario game where you just wanted to explore and fool around in the 3D environment because something useful was hidden everywhere. It's much like Zelda. Most blue coins only revealed themselves if you solved a puzzle or tried something out-of-the-blue. no pun.
Personally it surprised me very often and I started to appreciate the level design much more than I ever thought. When comparing to Mario Galaxy, I just rush through, cause nothing is of value except of a little star dust here and there and the golden stars at the end of an mostly linear and easy road... and because there's nothing to do it's basically a rush through a wonderful world with amazing graphics you don't look at twice.

Yeah the Blue Coins made it difficult for completionists.

What also didn't help though was the at times ****ty camera (I distinctly remember one bit in that funfair level that was infuriatingly bad camerawork) and as SKTTR has said the less than intuitive controls that took some mastering.

My girlfriend loved Galaxy but found 64 too primitive looking (and to be fair it does look pretty raggity these days and hasn't aged well) so I thought sunshine would be a hit. Nope, she couldn't get to grips with the water squirting mechanic and the dual stick controls. I think she just wanted to shake the pad like she could with the Wii-remote. The Wii and the NES were the only consoles she's ever played so I can understand a GC pad being confusing to her.

That sounds suspiciously like a collectathon to me...Not meaning to condemn the game to Donkey Kong 64 levels or anything.

What makes DK64 a damn collectathon at times is that you have 5 apes, and are in constant need of switching. You see red bananas you can only pick up with Diddy, behind the next corner are green bananas you can only grab with Lanky and it's a constant looking for next KONG SELECT barrel etc..

DK64 is THE COLLECTATHON!!
5 characters and 25 different kinds of items to collect (bananas in 5 colors, coins in 5 colors, special coins, fairys, medals, blueprints in 5 colors, crystal thingies, bonus games, etc.).

In Mario Sunshine you have just 1 character and 2 items to collect (blue coins, stars)

Yeah well, I have no problem with "collectathons" at all,
as I collecting tons of collectibles in collectathons.

Yes, it's just 2 items, but what purpose is there to getting them? I hate games where they make you collect random ass **** just to "complete" the game. It's a stupid idea, and the reward is nonexistent (coughDK64cough). Do the blue coins open up levels or anything?

There are rewards, don't exaggerate.

If you don't like to collect stuff in video games, I appreciate you shut up and play something else please where you don't have to pick up items.

But maybe you just don't realise it's an evolution from the classic score system. You pick up all kinds of stuff and that is your score, woah!
Like "you have only a highscore of 12 green bananas in world 4 but I got a perfect 100." It's more rewarding than a line saying "Hi-Score: 999.999". But you're not the highscore hunter at all, huh? You don't see the challenge in finding out how to get the lonely blue coin floating high up in the sky. You just want it to be invisible so you can concentrate on how to find the end credits yeah?

And well, in DK64 you get an extended ending and an extra bonus scene if you collect everything, so much for no rewards if that's what you're asking for.
My reward is showing off a 100%/100% stats screen and laugh at people like you. Just kidding.

And last but not least, but mostly important: you never had to collect a ton!
You always needed just a little more than 50% to get to the final boss in any of these collectathon games.
Usually, that's a good compromise for people like you... and people like me who just want more hours of gameplay from a game that costs much money.

My reward for collecting everything is being able to say I've collected everything. If you don't get everything, you never really beat the game.

SKTTR, you should try Zack and Wiki 'Quest for Barbaro's Treasure if you haven't already. That was a great collectathon.

I hope this game has some new "Wow" moments. During Galaxy there was some stuff that I've never seen Mario do before that amazed me. The way he skated on ice, his new swimming techniques, and so many toher things. I hope this game brings some new wow moments, not just re use the ones from Galaxy.

Also, I'd like it better if you could use Yoshi throughout the entire game, not like NSMBW where you only have him/her for select levels.

True. I and Backloggery have two words for this: beating and completing.

SKTTR, you should try Zack and Wiki 'Quest for Barbaro's Treasure if you haven't already. That was a great collectathon.
Yes, man, I'm in the bad lava temple with those spiders and the tennis rackets. And there was another unlocked stage... that I couldn't win either. So I'm stuck on two lava stages and can't progress.

I love points&clicks but this one is a fing hard nut.
I don't hate this game. This game hates me!
What did you do that the game loves you so much??

I have 47 Wiitail games, and this one happens to be always on the edge of being sold away, because it's.... fing me!!!
Then I remember the reviews and that I still haven't found the hyped qualities.... There must be something I'm just missing!!
How deep..eh.. how long do I have to struggle until the... you know..
just too much stick in the stuck, fu..!!

To be honest, it's taking me too long already. I own this 2 years or more..
Should use a guide or just sell it.
Hmm.. maybe I let it collect a little bit more dust until I'm in the mood for it again.. that's when I forget how frustrating this game can be.

Use a guide already, two years is too long! But of course, completing the levels on your own is half the fun. Get a bunch of money and buy some hints. But if you don't like it now, you probably never will. After you beat the game you can revisit the levels and find some new puzzles within, which will lead to new treasure.

Ahh yes . . . no spoiling for me, I mean its not that its based on a big story. Story in Mario games isnt realy the strong point. Its mainly the fun and puzzles, and I like it . . . ! yeah I like it !

I get all giddy whenever I hear anything about the game, and it just keeps looking better and better! From the looks of things, it seems have more open areas than the first Galaxy. June can't come soon enough!

You mean I should buy those in-game hints with in-game money?
Aaaah! That's what I'm missing right?
I always saved the in-game money for the OCD soul.
But that's likely the wrong way to play this game?!

All the money I collected should be spend for hints and those extra-tries and stuff. Now I see! Thanky!

I will give it a third chance now.

It took you two years to figure that out? Jeez, I would have given up as well if I didn't use hints.

I don't mind collecting items. I like Zelda. It's when you have to collect for the sake of collecting that it becomes a problem. Hey, I'm not insulting Super Mario Sunshine and its blue coins. I dunno if it's a collectathon. But in collectathons, the difference between those and high scores is that picking up stuff for high scores is not neccesary and quantified (in that all it does is increase your score, not having to pick up 3 As and 5 Bs to get 10 points). An extended ending and a bonus scene doesn't impact the actual gameplay in any way. Hey, I'm not calling you retarded for liking collectathons (although I secretly question your tastes ). I'm just saying that collecting for the sake of collecting has never been my thing.

Not saying that this is neccesarily true, but you might just like it out of nostalgia?

I guess beating and completing the game for fun never occured to you guys? I can understand completing RPGs and getting every sidequest, because each is unique, offers different rewards, and aren't neccesary for completion. Well, have fun collecting your magical MacGuffins.

And to be on topic, can't wait for SMG2 to come out Maybe I'll pick the first one up, but not until after March for sure. Too bad Mario games command such a steady value (still $40 to $50? wth).
