Well, for starters, I knocked him off the bridge on that DK stage. After that, I don't know.

Hehe, yeah, nice job mate! I'm usually only good if I can keep a nice margin between everyone, so if I start making stuff ups when there are some good players around it starts to go wonky. Still, second ain't too bad!

I still don't get how you could get that much ahead of us on the first stage with that many curves.

Any tips you could share?

I don't know how I missed this race. Were you guys playing on a secret private server somewhere? I was sitting in the WiFi lobby from 6:50 to 8:20 waiting for the race to start and didn't see anyone online.

Sure I use the Bowser Bike (Flame Runner in the US) with Funky Kong. If you have a check around all the world records for timetrials, you'll notice a hell of a lot of use of this combo, or sometimes the Torpedo (Spear) Bike. Funky Kong is the fastest large character really, due to his nice extra speed you can see on the stats. He also has a little more off-road than normal.

The Bowser Bike works well with him if you can play solidly (no crashes), due to its very high speed and pretty good drifts/mini-turbos. Bad points are: acceleration sucks (so don't crash), normal handling sucks (so you need to always drift), and off-road sucks (again, don't crash). You really do need to get used to drifting very well and accurately for this.

Some courses do stuff up this combo, like Shy Guy Beach, but it works well on the majority. Just a tip, because of the slow acceleration it can be tricky to start again with a decent speed if you're blue shelled or something. What I do is drift 'on the spot', rotating a bit, until you get a mini-turbo. That starts you off at a good speed and you can wheelie without worry.

Another thing to be mindful of is how you control the game. I used to use the Nunchuk/Remote, but found that a little too hard to keep doing wheelies with. If you use a Classic Controller or GC controller, you can just keep tapping the dpad to do tricks, wheelies, and anything else that would normally need a shake (like avoiding the pow block).

Hope this helps guys!

Probably. It's just that it drifts differently from the Twinkle Star, for example.

Instead of those drawn out drifts you get sharp ones.

I was 4/7 overall.

We should continue to count MasterGH as 7th place because, even though he dropped link, he at least showed up and started the race. Last place is better than absentee, after all, right?

Agreed. That was unfortunate timing and he shouldn't be penalised for a dropped connection.

I know we've been trying to get as many people racing as possible but we can we a bit stricter on the start time?

Ten to fifteen minutes wait is just about acceptable but when we're waiting for half hour for people to turn up to a pre-arranged race it's extracting the urine.

The quicker we're done with the races the quicker people can then have non-tournament races and such.

Yeah, you're right about that. But if, say 8-10 people, could show up for the official races too.

The first post is updated with the new scores and the next cup. Let's try to get at least 8 racers for the next round, people!

2 hours and 40 minutes until the race starts. It's the Flower Cup.

I wanna see at least 8 racers on the track this time. Let's make it a good christmas race.

There's been a power outage so my internet connection is down, I'm currently 'borrowing' an unsecured wi-fi connection but that's kind of flakey so it is unlikely that I will be able to participate tonight. Apologies.

As for the others of you, get a move on. We're starting very soon.

Yes, I was disconnected after the first race. Wasn't surprised though, it happened right before we got the races going as well.
