Wii graphics card problem?

Hello everyone i noticed some knowledgable people write on these boards, so i hope you don't mind me asking for some advice.....
I got a Wii recently and have a couple of games (mario kart wii and bully) and a vc game (ocarina). i've noticed that the games don't always run that smoothly and recently when i was playing kart my friend who bought a wii on launch day noticed it wasn't running as well than on his wii.
it really isn't THAT bad but quite annoying. when i spoke to nintendo they said it might be a graphics card problem but because i got the wii with a mobile phone contract i don't have any proof of purchase the ninty rep i spoke to said there would be a £28 charge to look at it. i haven't followed this up too much yet and might be able to convince them to let me off the charge but i'm scared to send off my wii with my precious mario kart save on it (that cant' be copied onto an sd card) if i don't need to. does anyone know of slight slowdown issues that can be fixed? thanks!

I've only heard of an EU VC slow down problem, never heard of this.

Contact the people you bought the mobile phone from and see if they can get it sorted or provide proof of purchase.

Not heard of anyone else having this problem so it should be an easy fix.
