Filed under: Hacks, Nintendo Wii, Fighting Sure, the Super Smash Bros. Brawl stage editor is a great way to extend the value of the game, but it's only really valuable if you and your friend-code friends have the creativity to come up with interesting stages. Those of us with no creative talent and/or no friends are out of luck! Enter the web, which has already filled in some of the stage-sharing holes Nintendo left in the game. IGN's recently launched Smash Bros. supersite already has a selection of over 100 user-created stages that players can download to their SD cards, while the Smash World forums Stage Browser currently has 85 or so stages available. Each site offers picture previews, easy instructions for uploading and a rating system to separate the wheat from the chaff. Now if someone could just hack a way to play these user-created stages in online matches we'd really be in business! Among my group of friends, I'm the stage creation master. I've made some really fun ones and shared them with a few buddies, and we've had a good time.
It's a cool idea to have huge online stage repositories, and I'm sure it'll be handy for a lot of people, but for me, there's something kind of sterile about it. I think I'd only really like playing on a stage if it had a kind of personal touch or history, so I'm going to stick with stages that my friends have created.

Your loss I guess. Coming from being a big TimeSplitters fan I know I learned a great deal about creating multiplayer maps from playing stages provided on similar sites. I find the whole sticking to one/two peoples ideas goes sterile a whole lot quicker, whereas you can always find some random ingenious example to inspire you elsewhere.
Seeing as stage data is so easily accessible I wonder how long it will take someone to come up with a PC based Brawl stage editor.

Bah, by the time our ideas do get stale, I'll probably be done with Brawl anyway. Not my loss, but my choice. Avoiding the multitudes of insipid stage designs from strangers makes my gaming experience more pleasurable. Don't get me wrong, I'm sure there are plenty of gems, but I have better things to do with my time than find them.
