Default Interesting facts about VC games.

Do you know an interesting fact about a VC game? Whether it's out now, coming out and could come out, chime in and have your say

I have 2 rather interesting facts. One's about Tetris and one's about Pac Man.

Tetris.

Tetris was originally a sex game. You had to move male and female sprites into, er, place instead of blocks. Someone at Ninty saw the game and thought "Hey, if you replace those with blocks, we could have a smash hit", so they did and they did

Their have now been hundreds of Tetris games across many a console and some online too. So it's only a matter of time before one hits the VC. Although the NDS version is IMHO the best version yet. Although the GB version is for the more hardcore player since it's alot harder.

Pac Man.

Pac Mac was originall called Puck Man because he looked like a Hockey Puck. However hoodlums in the states were getting Black markers (because the background was Black) and were marking out a chunk of the Yellow "P" so that it looked like something else.

All Puck Man machines were destroyed (I think) and they re-launched with Pac Man.

I like your Tetris fact. I will add to that one:

Tetris has made its way into the media on several occasions. It was referenced prominently in the video-game oriented cartoon Captain N: The Game Master. It was also referenced in Muppet Babies episode "It's Just a Pretendo", The Simpsons episode "Strong Arms of the Ma", Family Guy episode "Prick Up Your Ears", and Futurama episode "Fear of a Bot Planet." Commercials also occasionally parody the game. Police Academy: Mission to Moscow alluded to Tetris by depicting the Russians trying to hypnotize Americans through a puzzle video game referred to as "The Game" in the movie.

Awesome eh?

Yeah, i've seen it in a few a those. Navi and Link make an appearance in the Power Puff Girls. Link kills Navi, lol.

Those 2 facts I got from the same show, lol. "Thumb Candy". It was a one off special on C4 one night. The guy (Who now writes for OXM 360 I believe) went around playing loads of old games. He even beat Shigsy on SMB.

Shigsy was horrible at it

But they shown some footage of the Sextris game and it looked, odd, to say the least.

In Belgium we have a tv-quiz called "blokken". It's totally inspired by tetris. If you answer correctly, you get 1 (or more) block. One line on the tetris field is extra points, etc.
The show is still a big hit in Flanders and is airing for 11 years now.

I've seen Sextris, but I'm pretty sure that came after the original, so I don't know about that "fact". Not least because the system it was designed on wouldn't have been able to create the sprites you describe.

Best check that one.

Tetris was created in 1984/1985 on a machine called an Elektronika 60. Later it was ported to an IBM PC, but we're talking mid-80's here, and Sextris just wasn't possible with the graphics technology of the time.

All of that aside, the original game was created at the Soviet Academy of Sciences, so it's unlikely it had pornographic content!

Well, that thumb candy can be found on youtube. It's in a few parts though.

Yeah, this is not true. At all.

Tetris was created by the Russian programmer Alexey Pajitnov in the USSR, in 1984. And it definitely wasn't created as some sort of stupid sex game. Tetris is very well though-out, some may say genius, game based on all seven shapes that can made out of four equal squares.

Nintendo had nothing to do with the creation of Tetris. Nintendo got the rights to create Tetris games for portable devices (i.e. Gameboy) in a somewhat shady agreement with the Soviet government. Atari and Sega has also made Tetris games, and Tengen did a very rare version for the Famicom (NES) that was on sale for a very limited amount of time since the court ruled that Nintendo also had the rights for the game on their home consoles.

Alexey didn't receive a dime of the Tetris success, until 2000 when he got the rights to his creation and founded The Tetris Company.

I think it was 1996 when he earned his first money on it, recently heard that Soviet had a 10 year license on it. And I'm having a hard time believing that it was a sexgame at it's first state -_-

There is a sex version of Tetris (more than one actually; I've seen one on Amiga that's had penises for blocks, and one on PC that's had naked people for blocks), but it's certainly not the first version.

I think this explains how nintendo got tetris.

Video is "not currently available"

I believe this is the bit about Puck Man. Haven't watched it, so it could've been at the end of part 4.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gvmqfrzodi0

This is the Tetris one.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FdMek...elated&search=

Having re-watched it I admit I was wrong, it was obviously something else that shown footage of the game and something else which was claiming that it was the first incarnation of it.

And obviously this something else was full of crap.

The only question remaining is, what the hell is that something else? What the hell did I see it on?

No idea. It was a long ago that I saw it, and to be honest, I wasn't that interested, but my mate thought it was the best thing he'd ever seen.

Here's Sex Tetris, from 1993.

Default tetris

as everyones talking about tetris, i thought id join in.

i recall seeing far too many "sextris" games in my time; all shoddy remakes with pixelated penises and blocky boobs. and other remakes too - it seems anything can be bent or shaped into a tetris block, and if there's money to be made...

however, some of the remakes were quite interesting - Tetrinet springs to mind, with its network play and bust-a-move-esque special blocks. too many hours spent in college playing that when i should have been working if i recall monty python fans take note - there was also a version of tetris in the pc game "monty python and the holy grail" - the "bring out the dead" guy. their 'addition' was to make random blocks rotate at random intervals as they travelled down the screen - only random ones mind you, every 5 or so. most annoying, but then so was the main game itself

moving onto pacman; ive not heard this puckman thing before. the story i heard is that they [the designers] needed something 'easy to draw' - like a circle for example - given the primitive graphics at the time. someone was eating pizza, and the rest of the story is obvious. actually, as i type that it sounds ridiculous, but im sure its the version id heard.
