| Blades of steel I was a bit sceptic about an 8-bit hockey game but I wanted to try so I went for Blades of steel! Awesome game I must say, so simple, yet so fun, only 2 buttons plus steering, I also really like the way that you controll your guy at the goal at the same time as you controll your active player, adds a bit of challenge to it. I can't wait to try this on multiplayer since the singleplayer was really fun alone. One thing that was very special for me was the sound. There is an annoying sound pretty much all the time, I think it's the crowd makeing weird noises to annoy you... oh well, the referee is just awesome! He sounds like he is from Quake 2 or something like that, makes me laugh everytime I hear him, and the fact that he yells out "FIGHT!" and just drags the beaten player away from the game and lets the other one keep playing with no penalty just makes him even more awesome. I give this game a 4/5 for the sound and the referee a 5/5, get it or die! (no wait.. I was thinking of another game now) |

| Lakitu | It's been a while since I've written in here, but there are still games that demand to be reviewed. Today's spotlight is an import title. Many people in North America (where I live) might have passed over this game, and it was only recently made available for download in Europe, but it's an excellent title nonetheless. DoReMi Fantasy Why You Should Buy It With bundles of creativity, attention to small detail, inventive environments, and perfectly tight controls, DoReMi Fantasy is an almost ideal 2D platformer that's ready to remind anybody just how fun and lighthearted this genre can be. Even within the first three worlds, players will be running and jumping on nearly any item imaginable. Though I'm leaving out most of the best ones to avoid ruining the effect, there'll be various musical instruments that make different sound effects, party poppers that launch Milon upward, falling cookies, and pyramids made out of empty wine glasses which begin to fill and trickle wine after they've been touched--just a visual change, but another great example of small detail meaning all the world. Even static trees and statues have changes in animation when standing on top of them. DoReMi Fantasy is designed as if its directors and programmers believed they could successfully create platforms out of anything, and they were able to do just that while also adding great stylistic touches. Milon himself is also full of life in his animations. DoReMi Fantasy's music is great whether it's trying to be catchy or mellow, and the level design is simple but strong and accessible, similar to Super Mario Bros. 3. Bosses can get rough in the latter half of the game, but other enemies don't pose much of a threat; Milon has an infinite supply of bubbles to blow and push them away, in a similar fashion to Bubble Bobble. Platforming is the primary focus, and in this game platforming is handled very well. Types of Gamers Who Should Stay Away -None, unless you don't like platformers or don't like color--I can honestly say I'd take DoReMi Fantasy over Super Mario World or Super Mario Bros. 3 even though I love those two games. Among pure 2D platformers (no action elements like Kirby Super Star, for example), it's my new third favorite behind only Yoshi's Island and Donkey Kong Country 2. |

| Beware, they are incredibly hard. The first is probably the hardest of the three and Super R-Type isn't as well built as the others. |

| Well, this seems as good a place as any to shill for Gunstar Heroes. Gunstar Heroes Honestly, I could probably get away with using the game's pedigree as the only reason I give as to why this game is so great. It's the very first game to come out of the legendary action developer Treasure and several of the people who worked on Gunstar Heroes are former Konami employees who had worked on Contra. With heritage like that, you know the game is something special. But I'll delve into the gameplay itself. Gunstar Heroes is a side-scrolling run-and-gun shooter not unlike Contra. However, there is one key difference between Gunstar Heroes and most other run-and-gun shooters. The difference is that in Gunstar Heroes, you actually get a health gauge (or a numerical representation of your health, but same difference). This may seem like it makes the game too easy. However, while it definitely makes the game more accessible, rest assured that Treasure simply views your increased health as an excuse to simply bombard the player with wave after wave of enemies and boss battles every three screens. While the default difficulty is fairly bearable, the harder difficulties can stand toe to toe with the hardest difficulty mode of any Contra game, even with the fact that the Gunstar Heroes can take more punishment. And believe me, they'll need that resilience to meet the challenge that Treasure has put into this game. The Genesis hardware is pushed to its absolute limit as the game screen is always alive with gunfire, explosions, and dozens of enemies at any given time, all without a hint of slowdown. I've seen Gunstar Heroes referred to as the gaming equivalent of A.D.D, and that's not a bad comparison; you're always under fire from something, and the action setpieces change quickly and vary wildly. One minute, you're scaling a pyramid while under fire from jetpack-clad enemies. The next, you're sliding down the opposite side of that same pyramid at breakneck speeds, as enemies slide after you. And after you stop sliding, you're already in a forest as robotic claws and bees pursue you. Gunstar Heroes does not let up for a moment and that's perhaps its greatest strength. One aspect of the game that deserves special mention is the bosses. Treasure apparently loves bosses, as they've been considerate enough to populate each level with several to make the lives of the Gunstar Heroes miserable. These bosses are among the finest in action gaming and each one has a unique gimmick; one rolls a die to determine the attack he'll perform; another can reverse time; another is just a guy in a train that throws his own soldiers like projectiles at you. Gunstar Heroes is also home to one of the greatest bosses of all time; the infamous Seven Force, a shape-shifting robot with seven different forms, each of which must be defeated one after the other without a break. Battling Seven Force on the hardest difficulty setting is a gruelling trial that everyone should experience once. The only real flaw to Gunstar Heroes is that it's rather short; only seven levels long. However, that being said, each level packs enough variety and action to fill a game with twice as long and rest assured that every minute spent playing Gunstar Heroes will be incredibly intense. If you even have the slightest interest in action games, I strongly recommend Gunstar Heroes; it's accessible enough for newcomers and has enough action to satisfy the most hardcore fan. |

| Hey, I have 2400 Wii points, and I'm haveing difficulty picking a game (which is why I used this thread). The only Virtual Console games I own are Super Mario World and Gunstar Heroes, and the only known genres I heavily favor are RPG's and Mega Man. Act Raiser- I've heard that this is a really good game, but I'm afraid I MIGHT (I'm not sure) not be into the sim parts too much. Oh, and I just read a thread (rhyme Donkey Kong Country- I've seen videos, images, reviews, etc. of this game and it looks pretty good. The gameplay is solid, and if I had more Wii points, I WOULD get it, but as it is, I'm not sure how well it stands up to my other picks. Dynamite Headdy- Apparently, the Treasure president was sad that enough people haven't downloaded Dynamite Headdy, a game that holds a special place in his heart. Well, the last thing we need on the Virtual Console is for him to get mad at us, right? Oh, and seriously, I've heard the game was pretty good too. Gate Of Thunder- One of the best Shoot 'Em Ups on the Turbo Grafix 16 is a big claim to the empire, one which (I've heard anyways) Gate Of Thunder possesses. It is supposed to have a perfect balance of weaponbs and some kickass levels. Sure, it's probably going to be VERY hard for my first Virtual Console Shoot 'Em Up, but I think I can persist if only due to its (yet again, so I've heard) rocking soundtrack. Paper Mario- Hailed as one of the best Virtual Console RPG's, this game seems pretty awesome. It has cool characters, cool gameplay, and a lot of mileage for the money you're paying. The only thing keeping me away is the cost. Shining Force- Remember when I said I'm a huge fan of RPG's? Well, I'm a x10 bigger fan of the tactical kind, and Shining Force happens to be the first I've ever played. Nostalgic value aside, I know it's not just me who thinks the game is great; apparently, everyone does (even this random kid in my class). But, yet again, is it a better buy than the other games on this list? Sin And Punishment- This game looks classic Treasure, just without the classic part, a completely different graphic style, and a bad ass gameplay, leaving it with only the Treasure feel to differentiate it with Gunstar Heroes. I've really wanted to get this, but the price (1200 POINTS?!) is a serious problem in the equation. Super Castlevania IV- There is no question about it; I'm a huge Castlevania fan. So I feel sad knowing that I've NEVER owned any of the classic Castlevania, which I will rectify by getting a PSP and Dracula X Chronicles. Castlevania games have always been known as the pinnacle of 2D hack and slash, and I'm sure this one is no exception. I'm not sure if this particular adventure is worth sinking my teeth into more than the other games on this list, though. Super Metroid- Being hailed as one of the greatest games, of all time, it shames me to say that I've NEVER played this game (I haven't played many classics, but that's what the Virtual Console is for, right?). Anyways, should I get this game over the other ones, although to be honest, I'm pretty sure this may be the most recommended game, or the next one could be. The Legend Of Zelda A Link To The Past- Before anyone cries out foul play, note that I DO own the original N64 cartridge of Ocarina Of Time, which is why it will NOT be on this list. Anyways, to keep a short post short (too late?), I;ve heard this is a great game, with a great soundtrack, and... eh... Other... Great stuff. The only thing that mught make me NOT get this game is the fact that I want to finish my othe Zelda titles first, and the puzzles may annoy the **** out of me. Mega Man 9- Isn't it weird that I would call myself a Mega Man fan, but didn't want any Mega Man games? Well, here's a Mega Man game. Well, take your time to comment! |

| Well out of that lists i think u should get Shining Force a really good game and i dont like tactical games that much. Has alot of game play a ton of battles to keep you busy. And if you dont have a shmup yet get GoT im currently playin that game and i love it. The weapon system and music is solid and that game sure gets crazy but still a good buy. And pick up Zelda:ALTTP my favorite zelda game havent finished yet. But theres ton of things to explore and to find and has amazing music that gets stuck in ur head If i were u i would wait for MM9 and S&P for 2400 u can get three solid games. |

Shining Force (loved it before, probably will again) Gate Of Thunder (I don't have any shumps) The Legend Of Zelda A Link To The Past Mega Man 9 Sin And Punishment You said I should get Mega Man 9 and Sin And Punishment, right (or at least you would if you were me)? But after that you said you can get three solid games, but I think those only add up to 2. BTW, IF that included A Link To The Past, remember that I don't have enough money to get it and the two aforementioned games. Mega Man 9 costs 1000 Wii points, and I want me some Downloadable Content. | |

| Do you like my helmet? | You wouldn't be able to afford Super Metroid and Punch-Out!! with 1200 points, unfortunately. If you really want Shining Force, then follow your heart and get Shining Force. But remember the others for when you have more money. |

| I COULD do that. However, I... eh... Made a mistake. I have 1400 Wii points, NOT 1200. I think, if I get an 800 point game, I'll try Super Metroid, simply because I don't really own an games like it (besides Metroid Prime), and I still haven't beaten my two Fire Emblems. Well, any recommendations besides Super Metroid, Shining Force, and Punch Out, or should I stick with a combo of those? BTW, Mega Man 9 is SO HARD!! I LOVE IT! I barely got to Splash Woman, then I got murdered! |

| I'm probably gonna get Super Metroid, but I'm not so sure about Punch Out!. Is it really that great, because there are A LOT of great 500 point games. Of the top of my head, Gradius, Kirby's Adventure, River City Ransom, and Sonic The Hedgehog come to mind. Or I could just use the extra points after Super Metroid for downloadable content. Or I could just get Sin And Punishment/Some Other N64 Game and Downloadable Content. |

| Forgive me. But one game I REALLY want to try out is Kid Icarus. Everyone says it's so good, and I want to see it for myself. But I'm not sure if it's better than other NES games that I think I might get (Punchout!, mostly). Doesn't it suck that they removed Kid Icarus's cheats (like ICARUS FIGHTS MEDUSA ANGELS)? |

Honestly, I think Kid Icarus is very overrated. Punch Out on the other hand, while simple, is AWESOME. Although I don't think you should miss out on Sin and Punishment. It's a very short and easy game with a wacked out story, but man is it fun!

| OK then, but when I want to "Sin" "And" deal out some "Punishment", I'll have to blame you. Luckily, it seems that Super Metroid and Punch Out! may keep me at bay for a LONG time. So, anyone here think I should get Sin And Punishment, or another 800 point game (you know, instead of Super Metroid)? |
