Default Seek & Offer VC Game Recommendations!

This thread is in response to all of the topics being made lately where users are asking which VC games to download. They're becoming so frequent that it's probably better to just post in one thread whenever you need some game suggestions.

So, from now on please post this kind of discussion in this thread only. Any time you need recommendations for VC titles specific to your retro gaming tastes, this is the place to go

Credit to The shoemaker for the idea

I considered this, and realised that although these two threads are similar, I intended this thread to serve a slightly different purpose:

The Recommendation thread is where you post a game that you would like others to download; this topic is for those who need advice on which games to get, usually based on a shortlist or the genre/s they prefer. As I said in the first post, there's been far too many of these kind of topics popping up later so it's easier for these to be posted here instead.

Too bad new people will always come, they will make the thread and then some mod will arrive and lock it and say "use the official thread."

Okay, I have 200 points right now, and I'm probably going to buy another 2000 points soon.
I'm planning to take my wii to a friend and we are gonna get some people together and play, I've already planned to get bomberman, so that's only 1600 points left. So, what games do you people think I should get? A fun multiplayer would be preffered.
I already have:
Lylat wars (it got co-op?)
F-zero X
Street fighter 2 Turbo: Hyper fighting

EDIT: are there other hockey-games than Ice Hockey and Blades of steel?

No, but Ice Hockey is insanely fun.

A good Co-op game would be Contra 3/Super Probotector and it's hard aswell, giving it a lot of gameplay for the money. If the both of you enjoyed the C64 there's always IK+, although I think that you must've played it back in the days to really like it.

So my final recommendation is...Contra 3, yeah, most price-worth alternative.

So I'm going to get 6000 points when Bio Miracle and DoReMi Fantasy are coming in 2 or 4 weeks and I'd like to know on which games I need to spend my other points on.

This is what I'm definitely going to get:

Bio Miracle Bokutte Upa - NES/600 points
DoReMi Fantasy: Milon's DokiDoki Adventure - SNES/800 points
F-Zero X - N64/1000 points
Mega Man 2 - NES/500 points
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars - SNES/900 points

That means that I have 2200 points left. What are the best choices of the following games:

Air "Zonk" - TG-16/600 points
Blades of Steel - NES/500 points
Chew Man Fu - TG-16/600 points
Neutopia - TG-16/600 points
Star Parodier - TG-CD/900 points
Super Metroid - SNES/800 points
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - N64/1000 points

Shining Force and Phantasy Star 2

Zelda: OoT is kinda like a RPG game but i would consider it a adventure game. You should get that if u havent played it before.

@ Yasume: Hate to recommend the obvious, but you should pick two out of the three latter ones, i.e. Star Parodier, Super Metroid and/or Zelda OoT. The other ones are more ok-ish, but nowhere near as great as these three masterpieces.

Star Parodier - TG-CD/900 points
Super Metroid - SNES/800 points
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time - N64/1000 points

Okay, I do not recommend Ocarina of Time. Normally I would recommend it, but I think 1000 points would not be worth it because then you'd only have 1200 points left. But if your really into the Zelda series, and you don't mind the price, get it. But if you already have a 3D Zelda, I'd say save your points. But I would also say if your not really looking for a challenging game, get this one.

Now I don't know if your looking for a challenging game, but if you are, Super Metroid is a great choice. It has many platforming elements, and judging by your selected games, it seams that you do like Platformers. It's also a great exploring Game, which would be something you love if you love the Zelda series. But I'd say Super metroid's exploring is a bit harder. (unless your used to the exploring in the original Legend of Zelda on the NES) Super metroid also has pretty great music. I can't really say not to get it, since it's just too fabulus!

Although I have yet to play Neutopia, I still think it would be an excellent choice to download it. apparently it very similar to the Original Legend of Zelda. And surprise surprise, just the the original Zelda, it's also very challenging. This is because it almost gives you know clues whatsoever on what to do. It just puts you out there and says "Go." (That is what i've heard) So if your not a guy that is well, Puzzle smart, I'd say try Neutopia 2. Neutopia 2 is more liner, so instead of throwing you out in a vast world and saying "Go", it throws you into a vast world and says "Go do this." so along with being more liner, it's gameplay mechanics are supossibly better.

I do Not recommend Blades of Steal. But my opinion shouldn't count since i've never actually played the game. But Classic Sports titles arn't really my thing so...... But I have looked into the game, and honestly unless your really into Hockey, I don't think you should get it.

As for Air "Zonk", It looks alright, but nothing too special. The Graphics are very pretty, and the Gameplay mechanics look very tight, but once again, I've never played the game so sorry. But I'm not a big fan of SHUMPS anyways.

And I've never heard of Star Paroider or Chew Man Fu.

SO I RECOMMEND:

Super Metroid and Neutopia. and if you want to spend all of your points, throw Air "Zonk" in there too. (but you'll still have 200 left :P)

But if you really want Ocarina of Time, I'd say get that, with Super Metroid. (you'll have 400 points left)

Thank you very much, guys.

@the shoemaker: Although your post gives a good explanation on which games I should get, I'm still not really sure. I think I'm going with Super Metroid, since you describe the game as it's a masterpiece, so that means I'll have 1400 points left. About Zelda, I think I'm going to wait with it since it takes up a lot of blocks and still have Twilight Princess unfinished. Also, I just realized that I have 100 points leftover so that means that I can spend 900 points on Star Parodier and 600 points on Neutopia or Air "Zonk". It will probably be Neutopia, since Star Parodier and Air "Zonk" are both SHMUPS.

I fully and entirely agree with choosing Super Metroid, Neutopia, and Star Parodier. Absolutely the way to go.

Thanks for the reviews =) Good to know that I need a Classic Controller to play Super Metroid. It's only 20 bucks so I'll throw that in too.

Yasume, you must get Super Metroid! Other than that I would suggest getting Star Parodier. I would have suggested Ocarina of Time because, along with Super Metroid, it is one of the greatest games ever made, but in my opinion OoT is unplayable with a GameCube or Classic controller. That might just be because I'm so use to playing it with a N64 controller though.

I grew up with OOT and an N64 controller but I can safely say that the GC controller is a fine substitute for a game like Ocarina, especially if you've played Wind Waker or TP on Gamecube before. Now, games like Sin & Punishment really need the N64 controller (it's painfully obvious) and I've never even played it with one before! But, one must always remember that everyone has their own opinion on how good something is or handles so.....it's really a case-by-case basis. Heck, someone out there could enjoy playing Super Mario World with a Gamecube Controller for all I know.

It's just that whenever you're in first person the controles are too sensitive and the c-stick is a poor substitute for the c-buttons.

Well, the first-person view is a very unimportant part of gameplay (at least to me). It isn't necessary very often and you can usually find everything you need without ever going into it.

Well the moment I remember the first person being the worst was against Ganondorf at the end of the game because I would keep on missing when I needed to shot him with an arrow.

Oh yeah, I forgot about the Bow and Hookshot using 1st person; I was just thinking about the camera thing. Yeah, that can be a little annoying but it's not game breaking or anything.

Go with the first option if you don't plan on ever getting the Mega Man collection or more than 2 Mega Man games for the VC. I personally didn't find Gunstar Heroes worth the points (which others will disagree with) and I've never played Samurai Shodown before.

I dont kno about SS2 cuz i dont have that but Megaman is short same with gunstar heros. And Ys book has quite alot of game play so its worth
the points. But i really like Gunstar Heros alot its a great game even tho its 7 levels its bomb. I cant get past the Seven Force the boss bottles are sweet. I would get either Gunstar Heros or Ys, megaman is really fun tho but those games are my top favorites now

Ive been looking at S&P lately and i have to get that game. But i read that its kinda of short i was wondering how much levels it has? Its made by Treasure and after Gunstar Heros i was amazing how much things come at you. I have Super C and i dont even compare that to Gunstar Heros. So is this game for me? If it has atleast 10 levels and traning mode i think i will get this and SMRPG comments would be appreciated

IIRC its 10 levels (a starting practice stage then 1-3 - 3-3 and its a training mode too).
End to end playthrough is around 50min.
The stages is intense'ish and the bosses is beautifully designed.

Sweet thanks Tull, i think i might pick it up it doesnt matter how much levels the are to me really. Just matters about the gameplay and this looks like a game i cant miss. But sense i have Gunstar Heros i have only beat 3 of the 4 first levels and think it was 100% worth it so i think ill pick this up

Well i just downloaded Samurai Shodown II and was wondering what i should spend my 1200 points on help me decided what to get.

Blazing Lazers, Fantasy Zone, or Bomberman 93-1200
Star Parioder-900
Sin and Punishment-1200

I was thinkin about waiting tell my next point card to get S&P cuz i have my hori stick on the way. And i want new games to play it with so i thought Blazing Lazers and Star Parioder would be a good choice.

All five games are great, but Sin and Punishment has Analog Stick Requirements, so it won't play with the Hori-Stick.

I recommend Star Parodier, if you ever played Parodius, you know what to expect.

Bomberman is generally better to play it in groups, up to 5 for Bomberman '93.

It's nice to see I'm not the only one that thinks so.

Ive been thinkin about getting bomberman for awhile but im not big fan of puzzles games. I just herd at vc-reviews and on the fourms here that its a very addicting game. So it got me wondering if i would like it or not. And i like the 5 player battle mode thats pretty sweet. Thing is i would much rather have Star Parodier then Blazing Lazers. Because BL doesnt have 2 & 5 minute modes which is a real drag.

So I want to buy one fighter on the VC.

The choices will come down to :

River City Ransoms
Ninja Gaiden
Splatterhouse
Double Dragon

Wich one of the above is the best and has the longest single player mode ?
