Robo is awesome! It's amazing how they manage to give him so much character just by his animations and sound.
Warning: Spoiler Below.

I was quite moved by the Robo story, the part where his brothers try to kill him because he is "malfunctioning" is really horrible.

I think this was a really suitable pick for Christmas, the game feels nostalgic and gives the same feeling of adventure that games often gave me when I was a child.

Yeah, Robo is ****ing great. I never liked him when I originally played through the game (because I had something against robots or something), but not only is he a great character, he's also one of the most powerful team members later in the game.

Warning: Spoiler Below.
Also, in reference to your spoilered-out comments, you're in for a treat, because there are two more incredibly moving sequences featuring Robo later in the game.

Robo is probably the best character at higher levels, if you use enough Speed Capsules on him.

I played a little more tonight and have just time travelled for the second time, this time into what seems to be a snowy future.

I enjoyed the Warning: Spoiler Below.
trial sequence and how some of the interactions I did prior to it like rescuing the girl's cat or trying to get some the princess to sell her pendant went for or against me, altough the witness watching me collect the pendant before speaking to her isn't what I personally did as I recall.
It left me wondering if other things within the game will alter based on small decisions I make.

Enjoying the story so far, I found the graphics better when playing the Rom on a smaller screen. they arn't quite as nice on a giant TV so I will actually look forward to playing on an old CRT TV this Christmas.

I'm kinda stuck in the future.

I made my way through the dome and fought the creepy crawlie boss beast. Now I don't know what to do. If I got to Death Peak a strong wind blows me out again. If I go to the dome below it I can't seem to get down onto the floor where the monsters are and the computer is dead.

Tried exploring the other dome and found a fancy futuristic looking car but I get attacked by Robots every time I try to go past it and I can't interact with the car.

Help?

I'll let JoYo or someone else field that one, Beta. Though I've done it twice now, I really don't recall specifically what it was I had to do to move the story forward. And, like I said in the chat, for the first time I played this game it took me awhile to stumble across it. I know that doesn't help, but I'm sure one of our members will be able to.

I am now in 65,000,000 BC. I just met what I think (or hope) will be a new party member. I just got my feet on the ground the last time I played so I haven't done much there yet. I'll get back to this shortly and try to keep advancing the story.

I miss DQVI I must be patient...I'll get back to it. It's not like I knew what I was doing anyway

Spoiler 1: To activate the car you need a key.

Spoiler 2: I think it's in a chest somewhere in the region.

Spoiler 3: I'm not sure, but it might be in the open area with the rats and octopus enemies.

Did you pick up the seed and give it to the humans? I'm pretty sure that's when the man allowed you to use the car, I'm pretty certain you didn't find a key in a chest.

Beta, the dungeon where you fought the creepy crawlie and went to death mountain was a tangent. Your quest right now should be to go into the basement of the dome where the people are starving but can't get to the food stores. Once you clear that dungeon, then you'll get the key for the car/bike.

Now you know what to focus on.

I remarked in chat but I actually had to grind again for I think my second time. But I killed a pesky boss I'd been stuck on for a while (rather easily really). Now I'm level 39 and I'm still in 12,000 BC (2nd visit). I wonder how much more there is to this thing...

I intend to find out this month. Hehehe

Anyone with an iPhone or iPad?
Appearently Chrono Trigger got released on App Store in December, same month as our gaming club, nice timing.
I heard it was quite well-optimized for the touch controls, anyone who've tried it?

I sort of forgot about Chrono Trigger, gonna have to pick up my DS and play it some more.

I got back into my session tonight and found the bit I was missing last time, it was a ladder leding down into the food supplies among where the people were gathered.

I won the car racing segment, added the robot to my team and found the portal to escape the future.

Now I'm at the End of Time healing up and saving.

I beat this game today. Took me about 25 hours...my folks got leveled up much more than I think they needed to be...mostly due to my wandering and not always knowing where to go next.

Outstanding RPG. I can't believe it took me this long to get to it since I am an RPG junkie. I'll play it again someday for sure. Probably multiple times. Great story, great characters - both from a personality perspective and from a fighting-variety perspective, great music, great graphics (I played the DS version, but I'm sure the SNES one looks great too), and on and on. I wanted to give it a 9 in part because I was glad to finish it once I finished it....you know, I was ready to move on and all. But I really don't see many faults in the game at all so I think it deserves a 10. It's not uncommon for me to get restless late in an RPG and just become hell-bent on beating it. That's nothing to ding it for.

Anyway, great pick for the club. Thanks again for getting me to play this finally.

Finally played a small chunk of the game (about an hour and a half in)
Warning: Spoiler Below.
Up to where i meet up with Lucca after get arrested for kidnapping Marle

A few questions about the combat. (cos i suck at it)
Can you block attacks or defend?
If so what's the best way of healing if your not near an inn.

Also can you move in the battle as the Enemy seem to be able to move but my character and my party don't seem to have the ability to move.

best way to fully revive your whole party is using a SHELTER (10G) on the world map or on a save point.

You block automatically with your DEF and MAG DEF level.

You don't need to be able to move as you don't need to be next to a character to attack them, you'll move automatically during the animation.

Enemies move so that you can use tactics to focus attacks on enemies when they are close together hitting two monsters with one attack.

Best way to heal is not to use "heal" which just restores your status but just to stock up on plenty of that other thing that actually restores 50hp. I keep about 70 of them on me at all times and never have a problem.

Later in the game there are other things that will heal you in the scenery.

What's "heal" is that a Tech/Combo? I've been mainly using potions which heal 50 hp. I also noticed theres mid-potions (restore 200hp) r they worth getting?

"Heal" is the name of the potion that fixes your status (e.g cures dizzy, etc) iirc.

"tonic" is the name of the potion that actually heals your HP's. It can be a little confusing if you don't read the descriptions and accidently stock up on loads of "heal" potions!

I havn't bothered with the mid potions yet. Although I do keep a few of those potions that resurrect a character from the dead which I believe are priced similarly.

I played some more tonight. Wandered around the stone age and got to the top of the mountain where I realised I'm probably meant to have some sort of item to call a Dactyl or something. Well I suppose at least I levelled up in doing so. I've now gone to some other point in time where there is a battle going on by the bridge. Not quite sure what I have to do but suspect I need a different party member.

Speaking of which. Why has Robo become some sort of CPU controlled party member now?
I can't manually control him in fights anymore and the combo moves that involve him are greyed out?
Can anyone explain why this is?

Played some more tonight. I took back the bridge and now there is some fake hero called Tonma wandering around claiming to be the legendary hero.
I found the Tonma reference funny as I have the game "Legend of Hero Tonma" also on VC. Is it a wink to that old Irem title?

Can't seem to figure out how to get to the next part of the game so I went back to the stone age and wandered around the hunting grounds killing the monster that appears when it rains (this made me think of the mission in Xenoblade where a similar looking special monster appears in the rain, making me wonder if that was a nod back to Chrono Trigger!).

I'm a bit stuck as to where to go now. I found Frog again but eventually I got bored so I went and took on Lavos and got the bad ending. Any clues as to what I should be doing next?

I think you mean Toma.

I'm not sure how you got lost... presumably, since you've been in the prehistoric era, you found Ayla and she took you back to her village, then you talked to everyone and started the party scene. After the party there are literally footprints that show you where to go next.

No, I'm afraid none of that happened. Yossa also pointed me towards doing this but although I've been all over the prehistoric area and visited the village I havn't met anybody called Ayla. Am I out of sequence again? I've been to the village by myself but I didn't see any party sequence. The chief's hut is empty and the guy in the other hut just says the chief won't trade with me.
I've visited every location I can reach in the prehistoric area: the village, the hunting grounds, climbed to the top of the mountain and entered the (one screen) forest maze.

How did you get there? From the End of Time? If you didn't immediately encounter Ayla when you went to prehistoric times, then it greatly narrows down what you're supposed to do—something not in that time.

Keep in mind I've only played this once, but I do recall that they let you go to 60M BC or whatever before you need to (shortly before). Like JoYo said, there's something you need to do in another time first. I don't recall what, though. But I do know you can't not meet Ayla once you are supposed to go to BC and you get there. You see her pretty quickly.

She's awesome, by the way.

I found what I was supposed to be doing. Getting the Masamune. I've got it now and am going to see the swordsmith to get it repaired.

I'm at the boss of the prehistoric era now. I took the robot with me but I'm a bit irritated that I still can't get him to attack. He just auto attacks. Is this all he does or am I missing something here as the game doesn't let me control his attacks anymore.

I don't recall him ever doing that to me. Check his equipment. He may have something equipped that is causing automatic berserk in exchange for a stats boost. I actually had one of my characters wearing an item like that most of the time.

Ah, this could be the problem as I do recall getting a beserk item so perhaps I equipped it to him. Would this be why he now turns red?

Yeah. It's cool if you just plan on attacking and not doing other things with that character during a fight (ever). It effectively makes you immune from confusion too.

Hi, catch late this topic...is my favorite rpg. Actally the beserk is great if you are fighting minions or leveling up because of the attack boots. And the fast passing

I've got the Masamune now and learned the origins of Frog. Now off to teach him some magic and then go slay another boss.

About 10 hours in.
