Default So, where's the Gameboy?

With the Gameboy Advance all but a memory and Gamecubes giving ways to the Wii, the options for playing classic monochrome and Color Gameboy games is quickly vanishing.

Where is the Gameboy channel on Wii-shop? We know they have had the ability to emulate Gameboy games on larger consoles all the way back to the days of the Super Nintendo, so what's the bloody hold up?

A lot of younger gamers are missing out on some terrific lost gems and guys like me who might have lost some of their Monochrome goodies over the years want to play them again.

Plus, the Gameboy had some important "heritage titles" on it. Metroid 2 only ever came out on GB. There are 3 Mario Games and 3 Zelda Games. There are also 3 DK Land games on it.

Plus the GB has arguably the best version of the original Donkey Kong ever put on any system, with 96 extra levels added.

So, does anyone know if we'll be getting some Gameboy Love soon?

-Ray

Yes I thought about that too, they might put it on since no one is selling NEW game boy games not used. If they do it'll probably be until nintendo runs out of games for the VC.

Yeah, I know some people have issues with playing GB games on a TV screen, but I'm not one of them, and I'd love to see GB/GBC/GBA on Virtual Console, if for no other reason than to have one of the best games in the Zelda series made available once again.

Yeah, Game Boy is just one "Super Game Boy" emulator away... Like how Game Gear games would be possible with a Master System emulator.

yeah serious, i mean, in the past few years i've bought a bunch off of ebay (gargoyle's quest, double dragon 2 which is actually a sequel to river city ransom with different sprites and music, chessmaster - which rocks the snes chess master hands down, gradius interstellar assault and dragon warrior 3). having any of these for vc would be sweet.

I havnt searched so I dont no if this has been posted anywhere on the forums but here is abit of news on this subject from last week:

Quote:
You thought the Animal Crossing MMO was the only juicy Nintendo rumor that EDGE had this month. Well you would be quite wrong sir! They also seem to believe that Nintendo will be releasing official flash cards for the DS in preparation for a DS VC service. One that would bring downloads of Game Boy and Game Boy Color titles, as well as some new works. You would access this channel through communication with the Wii, most likely. If this rumor turns out to be true, then my end of day thought from long ago will have meant something!

I missed out on Zelda: Chronicles of Ages/Seasons or what ever, and they seem like awesome games.

I also had the gameboy yellow cartrage of DK! It was sooo awesome. I keep remembering trying to jam it into my gameboy, and blowing on it all the time to make it play!

But hey! It probably would happen! I would gladly pay up to 300-400 for Gameboy games, and around about 500 for advance games!

He can say what he'd pay for GBA games if they came to VC if he wants.

GB games on the VC would be awesome, but for one problem.

Allot of latter GBC games could not be fully completed without playing with another person via the link (think Pokémon or the latter Zelda games for example). In order to do these games justice Nintendo would need to enable multiplayer somehow.

Its Oracle of Ages/Seasons, I only have Ages but it is my favorite Zelda game of all time (that I have played)

And I have Donkey Kong Land 2 as well! My copy still works quite well and on the GBA the graphics sorta look like a sketch!

Why do you guys always bump up 2 month old threads? My verdict is they are saving gameboy game 'till the next handheld platform.

I think gameboy games would coast like 800 points maybe more. But yes they might be saving game boy for the next system. When will that be 10 years?

EDGE magazine has said that a Virtual Console is coming to the DS with GameBoy/GameBoy Color games along with memory that will go in the GBA slot

800 points would be a bit mad though. I mean, a GB title over say, a SNES or TGCD game?

500 is the max I d pay. Maybe 800 for GBA ones but certainly not GB or even GBA.

I think GB games should be less than 500 Wii Points (the biggest are 1 Megabyte), GBC maby 100 or 200 more, and if GBA is coming, same amount of Points more than GBC are to GB.

The biggest cost would be to develop the needed framework (DS Flash cartridge, Shop-channel entry / Shop-channel for DS, Emulator) and the operations guide for each language supported by Wii and DS.
