Default Man is Yoshi's Story horrible.

Was wanting it for the VC, but then I found it cart only on the N64. I would've preferred to have the instructions, but £3 for a game that i'd heard was bad was safer than £10-£15 for it complete or £7-£7.50 on the VC (Depending on how you bought your points, because online is cheaper). Also, I don't have a rumble pack, Dazza said that was really important in the comments page. So maybe this is why i'm disliking it as much.

But for those of you who haven't played it, this is everything i've went through since getting it. It's quite long, but you don't have to read it, so...

The Jump button isn't sensitive enough which is bad for the type of game it is. I mean how many platformers have you played that are forgiving if you don't have split second reactions so that you can jump instantly as you land?

Your jump itself is over sensitive. I rarely land where I want to. And even pulling back as hard as I can doesn't do much once i've built up the forward momentum. The music is awful and irritating. The graphics are great. The story is so uninteresting that I gave up 5 sentences in. The gameplay is bland and boring since the whole object is to collect 40 pieces of fruit (Think it's 40, I forget whether there were 9 or 10 on each side). Plus it's also irritating because of the jump problems.

Then there's the border. Having a border of fruit really put me off and gave me a headache. Thankfully I figured out how to switch it off. Being told that I only have "5 fruit to go" then "1 fruit to go" is irritating, because it's almost as if Ninty were trying to insult peoples intelligence.

Because (This is where I have 2 gripes with this) surely people can count to 5 (making this useless). And the people who can't count to 5, well, i'm guessing that can't read that "there's only 5 to go" (Again, making this useless).

The game is glitchy, as I was upto the Dragon section on level 3, and I phased straigt through the Dragon dieing.

You get 6 Yoshi's, not lives, Yoshi's and once there gone, you have to start again. It made me start again! It told me what levels I had beaten, but it wouldn't let me change pages. And the guy who'd had the game before me, wasn't as far through the game as I was. So if there's a save, how he done it and I didn't, I do not know. As I pushed every button.

To replenish your Yoshi's you have to get a White Shy Guy who's hiding throughout every level (Who scarier looks like a KKK member).

There's all sorts of things to collect, but not having an instruction book, I don't know why I was collecting them.

There's multiple levels per page, but you only have to beat one to advance.

The first boss/sub boss fight is stupidly easy, even for a first boss fight. I mean i've played some first bosses who've been harder than the end bosses! (See Ninja Gaiden Sigma, Black of original X-BOX)

Poochie appears to be unrideable this time. Shame.

Had I payed double for this, i'd be extremly ****ed off. Because i'm ****ed off now. This game is absolutely horrid. And I think what makes it worse is, despite all of its flaws, I kept playing. It's oddly addictive. And mildly fun because of it.

I don't know, maybe I just kept playing to see just how bad it gets (As it got worse level after level) and maybe that's why I was enjoying it. Because everytime I found something else that was bad about the game, I laughed.

And I think that's everything. So... Rant over.

Flame me if you want, but it's my opinion and I personally wouldn't advise this game to anyone.

This is one of those games where if youre friend has been a prick to you, when he leaves the room you download it wasting 1,000 of his points.

I'm just curious. Why would you pick up a game that you know you were going to dislike, anyways? It doesn't make a whole lot of sense to me burning money like that, no matter how much/little you've paid.

Judging the likes of Yoshi's Story by the standard of Ninja Gaiden is far from a fair comparison. Heck, they're not even in the same genre.

I heard the game is very average, but I still really want to play it. It looks pretty good, and it's Yoshi!

It's the sort of game that gets better the more you play it, playing it through again to collect all the items and beat the game at 100% is quite a challange. First play-through I wasn't impressed by after playing it a few times I really like it. You'll either love it or hate it.

To find everything 100% in Yoshi's Story is the real challenge.
In the end all is about getting highscores.

It's more of the classic gameplay (level after level) than a big world with hidden exits on map etc. Yoshi's Story has no map.

But every level you found can be played in a level select mode.
Yoshi's gameplay is in the levels, not the surroundings.

I wouldn't play it without rumble though. Same case as OoT. Rumble is needed to get every hidden honey melon.

If you just eat every fruit you come across you play like little girls. ^^

Because I didn't know i'd hate it. I thought I might, but I try almost any game if i've got the cash.

Ok then, fine. Yoshi's Island's first sub was much harder, and it's realllllllllllly easy too. Just not as easy.

So that's all the rumble is used for?

Looks like it's not a lack of rumble that makes it bad then.

No, the button ISN'T senstive enough. It's the jump itself that's over sensitive. You hold forward and move forward uber quickly. Far quicker than any jump i've ever used on a game.

Also, the pad works perfectly on every other game.

Never had a problem with it yet.

Bottom line for me is this game is way too easy, even with the sub par controls. And this is coming from my experience when I was like 12.

I used to mildly like it. Then I bought the GBA version and sill only mildly liked it. Then I bought it again about a year ago and loved it. So I traded it in because I knew it'd hit the VC.
