Landstalker, Splatterhouse 2, or Mayhem in Monsterland

I doubt Ogre Battle or SoM because they're way too long...I think RPGs won't be played often (if at all), in the VCFGC. At least, I hope not.

PS Super Ghouls 'N' Ghosts...It's most certainly "the one".

SoM isn't that long. I can remember beating it with a friend (R.I.P.) in a sleepless 2 days and 1 night.

SoM should always be played in multiplayer though. Many people seem to think it's overrated. I believe its coz they haven't played it in co-op.

To be fair though I don't think we should set ourselves against your superhuman standards Didn't you finish this months game within 24 hours wheras most of us are still struggling with it?

I doubt I can handle playing RPGs for the VCFGC, especially since it brings up my OCD for a near perfect game. Wonder Boy in Monster World was just right with how long it took to play and how fun it was to play it, definitely a great pick from Joyo.

And I'm sure pdRydia would probably select another great title as well. Uh, I'm no good at guessing. So I'll say Super Ghouls 'N' Ghosts as well.

Not all RPG's take a long time to beat though. It also depends what type of RPG. An action RPG like Soul Blazer only took me a week to beat playing an hour or so a night. I'm pretty confident Mana would be a similar feat and anyway, who said anything about having to beat the game in a month? The club was designed to prompt people into downloading games they might not give a chance to otherwise or give people the motivation to play through a title they already own and havn't shown much attention to. While its fun to play through the title together there's nothing to say you have to give up on it once the month is over.

Within 24 hours? That was Wonder Boy and Wonder Boy III: Monster Lair.
I still haven't beaten Wonder Boy II (it's so unforgiving and glitchy).

For Wonder Boy in Monster World... I needed 4 days.
The first day was everything up to the desert pyramid.
The second day was all the rest up to the last dungeon and backtracking for hidden chests.
The third day was 4-5 hours of money grinding to buy 6 charmstones for nearly maxing out all magic.
The fourth day I beat the game. Took me 2 or 3 approaches to beat the final boss.

I'm no supernatural player though. I have deep respect for some guys here like hansolo350, who seems to beat most of those hardcore shmups, that I fail miserably at. But well, maybe now, after weeks spending with Uridium I can do better

Anyway, what is that talk about pdRydia picking Super Ghouls'n Ghosts?!
Are you all crazy??!! Most people here had/have a hard time beating Wonder Boy in Monster World which has a difficulty of about 7/10 imo, and now you all come up wishing for a 10/10 game?? I think pdRydia has enough common sense not to make 90% of us feel bad with picking up a hardcore sidescroller. A difficulty of 7/10 is a great balance of challenge and progress. Games like StarTropics, Kid Icarus, Mystical Ninja and ActRaiser do this and they're absolutely rewarding!

And just to make it clear because some folks here seem to always cause trouble in that case .. I'm just sharing my opinion! The chosen one can select whatever he/she wants.

I'd prefer if we didn't get a masochist game. And I'd prefer to play SoM with a couple of friends.

I'll say...Sexy Parodius (Or whatever's on the VCA).

I predict Cho Aniki or Donkey Kong Jr. Math since they're the scariest games on the VC.

There's only one.

You may be thinking of Super Mario Bros. 2: The Lost Levels, which is called Super Mario Bros. 2: The Lost Levels, not Super Mario Bros. 2.

How is SMB2?

BTW, the point of SGnG isn't too beat it, it's too enjoy playing it. No matter how much you (or I, if it makes anyone feel better) suck, it's still fun. And it's one of the few Halloween themed games on VC to my knowledge, so that's why I thought it had a chance of being picked.

im down for SGNG, but it is silly to diss an RPG for being uncomplete-able in a month and then suggest that.

super mario bros 2 would be cool. i could beat it every day for the month of october it is one of my favs.

donkey kong jr math.... now thats a scary one. also a good pick for 'something you wouldnt normally have tried'

Well, an RPG is beatable in one month. Completable is a whole 'nother story. Getting all of the items (or the best ones), all of the weapons, special abiliies, side quests, the list goes on and on. Also, for me anyways, I have to be in a certain mood to play an RPG. RPGs aren't really pick up and play material (well, the non actiony ones, anyways), so it would also require a large time investment. While Super Ghouls 'N' Ghosts is a 2D platformer, the most easily playable video game genre ever, and one of the easiest to pick up and play. So I would say it makes sense that I would recommend Super GnG, but not want to play any RPGs (for the VCGW, because of the reasons I said).

no worries. to each their own. i guess your right, it does make sense. but some people would say that SGNG would require a 'large time investment' etc etc.

and pick up and play i agree with, but not everyone would (agree for that game)

anyway, not necessarily hoping for an RPG, just guessing that one may get picked. and i do believe that eventually, one will be.

If it was, it would've been a national holiday...or it should've been a national holiday, anyways.

For everyone saying they hope its not this or they hope it is the other, remember the point of the club is to experience things you wouldn't normally try or wouldn't invest the time in so all the reasons given here for not picking certain games are actually good reasons for them to be picked

Also, everyone seems to be guessing VC games but remember that Wiiware is also an option.

On a side note, just to let you all know that when it comes my turn to pick I won't be paying a blind bit of notice to this thread and will pick what I want. I suggest PD does the same.

Well Donkey Kong Jr. Math isn't a bad game, it's just two math minigames - one for two players and another one for one player. you can also select the difficulty in both games. In fact if you like to train your maths in retro style, this is Donkey Kong Jr's. Math Challenge. The controls could have been a little faster, more rensposive in such a game, but it was in good old DK Jr. style. DK Jr. Math is underrated, not much but still. I have that game and started it up a few times for some weeks.

And the other game, japan only goodies. hanabi games and stuff. yeah, like that idea..

Yeah, I know right? I mean, if someone else picks it, I'll try it, but there's no way in hell I'd pick that sort of game. I'm no fan of Nintendo Hard.

After narrowing my choices down, one of my choices was Blue's Journey, which looks very SMB2-esque, but it can't be played with the Wii remote--you must have a Classic or GC controller in order to play it. It's 900 points on top of that. In the interest of accessibility--the more who can join in, the better--I choose the game I choose. Maybe in Betagam's thread, people can list what controllers they own/don't own, the better to guide future decisions?

Hopefully someone else with grace us with these choices.
