the turtles game i like to see is turtles in time, i love that
different sceneries, the turtle from the past : slash, throwing enemies to the screen (was this one, right?) and of course, turtles beating enemies up oh, almost forgot: multiplayer mode

as for VC predictions, maybe SMK? unless NA gets it first, why not both at same weekend, europe getting it friday, and monday after that NA gets it, would be fair

Bonsai Barber has been confirmed for next week on the Nintendo WiiWare site.

I've signed up for alerts about the EU release of LIT but still no joy. Late August I'm guessing.

This week's NA Update pretty much confirmed that the VC is far from dead (Not that many of us thought it was anyway). Speaking of the NA update, will we see the Arcade Tecmo Bowl touchdown over here, or will NOE consider it too "American"? (We've yet to receive the NES version anyway, though that would be an Hanabi title if it was coming...). Might another arcade game come instead, in the form of Sega's Golden Axe, or perhaps finally some of that Namco love Japan's been getting for awhile now? Or perhaps one of our home consoles will get the update (SMK anyone?)

Or dare I say it, no VC game? ;;

Wiiware and Bonsai Barber has been confirmed, but you can be sure there'll be more.

And DSi still waits for the Photo Clock App, like an dentist appointment. Let's get it over and done with, or will another game delay it somemore?

My Predictions

VC

Golden Axe Arcade
SMK

WW

Bonsai Barber
Pokemon Scramble

DSiWare

Bet You Wish You Were Playing Something Else Clock App
Mario Vs DK

most of the predictions i made arent true, let this one be true:
- Super Mario Kart (SNES) 800 points (the way i put games on my wannahave list made of notepad)
i dont have any points atm, but always can buy

so let my prediction be true, or the part "most of the predictions i made arent true" be untrue, and give me... us the luck of getting the best mario kart of its series IMO

Nice! It's a shame Bonsai Barber isn't cheaper otherwise it would be an instant download and Shinobi is a very nice surprise.

I can't really imagine that they actually removed or replaced all these Bosses.
I don't see any copyright problems with "Godzilla" & Terminator, since they're different enough to avoid any law-suits. Man-Spider & Man-Bat are the main problem, since they actually look like the original characters.

Impossible to say till someone downloads it tonight, or has a Japanese Wii and the Japanese download (Unlikely).

I should really play a Sinobi game. Is this the right place to start?

According to Wikipedia, there are 3 versions of the game, the last of which replaced Godzilla and Batman with similar, but copyright-avoiding, monsters. Whereas Spider-Man was officially licensed, since Sega was also making official Spider-games at the time. Since the official Spider-license is now with Activision (isn't it?), I would assume Sega would have to replace it, much like Nintendo removed the Kawasaki logos from Wave Race 64.

Then again, it's not like the game is marketed as including Spider-Man, so maybe they can get away with it.

The version on VC of The Revenge of Shinobi contains no licensed characters at all. Spider-Man has been replaced.

Now for next week. Bring us Super Star Wars!!

I'm not expecting any VC this week, if NOE's bi-weekly basis continues. -_-

Besides, they've already confirmed that the long awaited Flipbook app is finally being released this week, so that'll most likely be the horse they're riding this week...

Predictions:

WiiWare

Magnetis
Overturn
Squibs Arcade

Virtual Console

Super Star Wars
Wizball

DSi

Flipnote Studio

Out of those I'd only get Wizball...
And this time, for the first time, I would get a DSiWare game, but I don't have a DSi.

DSi owners can download Sujin Taisen Number Battles, the WiiWare games Family Slot Car Racing and 3-2-1, Rattle Battle! are also available while fans of retro RPGs can get hold of Phantasy Star on NES.

Of course many of you will already know about Flipnote Studio (Free) but for those who don't, it is a DSi application that allows you to create your own flipbook animations and publish them online.

It's simple to use as you draw on the touch screen with the stylus, choosing from different pen, paint and paper types. Save your creation as a single Flipnote or create multiple pages to turn it into an animation, just like a flip book.

You can even add sounds recorded with the DSi microphone and images taken with DSi Camera.

The other DSiWare game available from tomorrow is Nintendo's Sujin Taisen: Number Battles (500 DSi Points) It's described as a new kind of board game that combines puzzle and strategy. You take turns against human or computer opponents in an attempt to reach a target score by placing numbered tiles on the board.

You can score points by linking tiles of the same number, sequence of numbers, or tiles in a loop. Special squares will affect play in new ways and you there are useful items that aid you in your pursuit of points.
You can go it alone in the main Story or Puzzle modes or battle against up to three opponents online.

Family Slot Car Racing (500 Wii Points) is a new WiiWare slot car racing game from Askys. You can race as Daddy, Mummy, Sarah, or Billy around three circuits, each composed of multiple race tracks and bonus tracks. You can also race against a friend in a two-player contest.
There are multiple slot cars available with different grip and speed ratings. As you progress you'll unlock new courses and more slot cars to help you reach the top of the racing circuit.

Then there's 3-2-1, Rattle Battle! (500 Wii Points), a party game from Tecmo. It features 12 quirky mini-games and we're told that they'll be easy to play with their 'easy shake-centric gameplay'. There's a Wi-Fi Rankings board so you can compare your scores in mini-games such as Rattle Fever and Rattle Rocket.

Finally RPG fans can enjoy the original Phantasy Star (500 Wii Points) game all over again this week. Originally released on the Sega Master System in 1988, Phantasy Star is one of the first story-driven RPGs to be released in the West. It also stars one of the first female leads in Alis who is out to avenge her brother's death at the hands of the cruel tyrant King Lassic.

You guide Alis and her friends through the sprawling environments of the Algol Solar System in an attempt to defeat King Lassic and liberate the people of Algol. Unlike modern Phantasy Star games, the combat is turn-based and you'll be taking on dragons, ghouls, giants, and magicians using glowing daggers, crossbows, and magic spells.
Aside from Flipnote Studio, will you be downloading any of these titles?
No. Nothing there looks appealing at all.

I would get Phantasy Star, but seeing as I'll be getting that Sega Mega Drive Ultimate Collection when I get my PS3, there's no real point.

Otherwise, there's nothing I'm interested in.

Phantasy Star is a good game, but I have it on Sonic's Ultimate Genesis Collection.

Also, for folks who are predicting Super Star Wars... do we even know this little month of Star Wars thing is taking place in all regions? I was under the impression from the NA press release that it was a NoA thing only, and if so, the European market may have to wait a while before they get it.

Yeah, wouldnt be surprised if they saved the SUPER Trilogy for our XMas download. :/

Still, wow. Has NOE's evil bi-weekly VC updates ended? Great news if they have.

So we have Core at last? Took long enough. Really looking forwards to playing the Bit.Trip series.
Pilotwings probably isn't my kind of game...
Mario vs. Donkey Kong looks interesting, but it's one of my "Can wait" games. Especially seeing how I don't have a DSi yet.
And I haven't been keeping up with the Pop Plus stuff. No clue about what to say on it.

But I'll agree, it's a great update. Just wish there were more... Then again, there's plenty already.

Just thought I'd pop in and mention that Mario vs. DK has tons of content. Tonnes, even! Maybe even tuns... Basically a full-fledged DS games with full online level sharing functionality for only $8. Great for puzzle-platformer fans.

Was hoping to do this last week, but Nintendo spoilt it. :/

A Long Time Ago, on a download service far, far away...

Virtual
Console

Episode 2
The Pilotwings Strike Back

In the week of Lucasarts adding the Super Stars Wars games, Europe hoped in joining in with the fun, but instead we got Pilotwings, which is just as good. A 2nd SNES game so soon might not look likely, but meh, you never know. We will also be celebrating like at the end of Return of the Jedi where Luke and pals are partying with the Ewoks, or will we be shouting NOOOOOOOO! like Vader at the end of Revenge of the Sith?

Other possible VC games include the likes of Earthworm Jim 2, Spindizzy (Can in be, a newly rated C64 game? Wow.o.o) and the vast amount of VC Arcade titles we are missing.

Wiiware, and we're yet to see Strip Poker. You know, the one with the striping anime chicks? NA also saw Mr Driller W, so might he be drilling his way over here to?

DSiware, and already confirmed is Oscar in Toyland. Might the pending Photo Clock Death Star app join it too?

My Predictions

VC

Space Invaders Arcade (To really annoy SW fans lol.)

Wiiware

Strip Poker
Mr Driller W

DSiWare

Oscar in Toyland
Jar Jar Binks Clock App

Sorry for the SW theme. ^^; If its unreadable, highlight it.

please let it be super mario kart (snes)

and i still wonder why the game which should be out in spring 2009, still isnt here, named "butterfly garden" guess its not going well or something

i would say: FFIV would be fun for VC too, but its no hanabi, so no non-euro games
anyway, i hope really SMK will be 1 of the VC games coming
would be nice bday gift

Well, the wait for SW continues. Will we even have a VC update this week, or will NOE stick to the Dark Side of the Updates? Earthworm Jim 2 finally touchdown this week, in Japan of all places. Might he worm his way over here too this week? You know how generous Sega gets with their games over here. Speaking of which, Golden Axe, or any other Sega or Namco arcade game would be nice.

Wiiware, Tales of Monkey Island Ep 2 anyone? Or might Strip Poker finally "unvail" itself? XD

DSiWare, still no Photo Clock App which makes owners wonder if they should buy one of those digital photo frames instead rather then waiting. Or better yet, buy a game!

My Predictions

VC

Earthworm Jim 2/Super Star Wars
A C64 game

WW

Tales of Monkey Island Ep 2
Strip Poker

DSiware

Ryu and Ken Clock Apps
Mr Driller

Default Contra

Quote:
Contra Rebirth will be available for download tomorrow for 1,000 Wii Points.

The new game in Konami's classic run and gun series will be released through the WiiWare service and sees Bill Rizer and Lance Bean returning to blast their way through five alien-packed stages.

You'll have machine guns, shotguns, homing missiles and lasers as your disposal as you attempt to destroy wave after wave of the Neo-Salamander invasion force. As ever, there will be a huge boss waiting for you at the end of each stage.

Veteran Nintendo fans may know Contra by a different name. It was called Probotector when it was released for the NES in 1987 in the UK and you can download the brilliant SNES game Super Probotector on Virtual Console now.
Didn't expect that. No word on whether we'll see any other WiiWare or VC titles though.

LIT is missing in action and no sign of Tales of Monkey Island either.

I'm keener on getting Lit.
I'm yet to be convinced of the quality of this new Contra game and I have so many similar games already.

It's a little concerning that LIT has gone from 'Summer 2009' to TBD on the official Nintendo Europe site. I don't understand the hold-up.

I'll keep an eye out and let you know if I hear of any other updates ahead of tomorrow's releases.

I bought ReBirth and suffice to say I'm not exactly blown away as yet. I've only had time to play up to the fourth stage in Normal mode which took me - a fairly inexperienced Contra player - less than 40 minutes (I've seen speed-runs of the game completed in less than 20 minutes)

It's no-where near as tough as Alien Wars and for the most part I've found the boss battles rather uninspired. There's no real "wow" moments until you get past the first half of the game, which is a shame because Alien Wars was full of them. In fact, the only thing that saves the game is the pace of the action which is fairly frantic and constant.

The visuals aren't too hot either: being rather reserved in terms of detail and even a little blurry, almost like they've been scaled with a filter. There's also some rather odd blurred movement effects in places. NintendoLife were harping on about there being loads more animation frames but the death animation seems to be laughably rigid and most of the smaller enemies are that dull you probably won't care. The sound's ok but again nothing spectacular.

It's nowhere near the 8/10 NintendoGetALife rated. I'd rate it 6 (maybe 7 tops) simply because it's way to easy, too short and not exciting enough to warrant replay unless you absolutely _must_ complete the game on its hardest difficulty level. At 1000 points it's also pretty expensive considering you can get a far superior experience on the VC for 200 points less.

Thanks for sharing. I've had little faith in this game living up to the name due to it appearing in an almost finished form from nowhere and appearing to have had little development time.

So far Nintendolife is the only review to appear on metacritic and I'm suspicious of a site that frequently deletes critical posts and has in the past banned me in case I upset the relationship it has with some publishers.

The recycling of old bosses and, from what I've heard much of the first level of Contra 3, also doesn't fill me with an urgency to play the game, especially as I have an unfinished contra 4 to hand and have played Contra 3 to death over the years in the form of Super Probotector.

Now with Super Star Wars is out the picture in America, now maybe perhaps Mr Lucas might treat us Euro folk now? Another week, another oppertunity for Earthworm Jim 2 as well.

But then, its always another opportunity for NOTHING. D=

Wiiware, again you can bet on an update. Strip Poker anyone?

DSiWare, the lonely Photo Clock app still waits on the shelf waiting a Euro release. Might the week finally come, or will I have to keeping thinking up App ideas for all eternity?

My Predictions

VC

Earthworm Jim 2

WW

Strip Poker; Starring Princess Peach and Amy Rose
Pokemon Rumble

DSiWare

Strip Poker Clock App
Mr Driller

My sentiments exactly. I'd rather have LiT or at least Pokemon Rumble over that tat. Hopefully Nintendo will give us a choice this week.

I've emailed WayForward to see if they can give an indication of an EU release date for LIT but I'm not holding my breath for a response.
