I want to beat this. But first IK, then IK+. OCD curse.

What's holding me off is that I don't know if IK is complete on VC. Rumor has it's only Side A of the disk: only 4 backgrounds/stages instead of the original 8. I don't want half a game. Maybe I should skip VC IK altogether and just get VC IK+.

You should then we can revive this thread alal Uridium. I've been playing a DS homebrew remake of C64 IK and its not really anywhere as good as IK+ despite its extra backgrounds (IK+'s single animated background is so much more beautiful anyway). the bonus game in IK is a dull waggler rather than the bouncy ball fun of IK+.

IK+ on the other hand is one of the best beat-em ups on the VC. Deceptively simple looking yet mastering it is a mini-marital art in itself. Its also a dream to play with the wiimote, even better than with a joystick.

The franticness of the 3 man fighting makes it so unique in comparison to other fighters.

Only downside is that the 'T' trick doesn't work and so far I havn't seen any 'heads' appear in the mini-game so it may have been censored also...although I can't remember at what point heads started to appear in the original.

I think Poison may have downloaded the original IK though so perhaps he can confirm whether that speeded up NTSC version has the backgrounds. I highly doubt it though as the C64 VC is so limited.

Well, I've got one to add, though it's already beaten.

Blazing Lazers - 12,948,220. I wish I'd kept playing after I beat it and I'm sure I could have gotten a higher score. I killed off my guys, though.

I'm sure I have a higher score in R-Type than what's listed, but it doesn't present high scores after-the-fact. So I can't say for certain what I got... Oh well.

Edit: Blazing Lazers was played in Normal mode.

I know what I can expect from IK and IK+, I had both on C64. I never beat one of those though, (Black belt is the highest?) so I thought I'd start with IK.

IK has one advantage above IK+: Two player matches. (I know, IK+ matches are more frantic, chaotic and fun because of having always three fighters on screen.) But sometimes I just want to play strategic versus matches without a chaotic CPU disturbing the human players. Unfortunately IK+ doesn't provide 1-vs-1, it's always 1-vs-1-vs-1. Imo both IK games are worth to own. One doesn't make the other one redundant (see Wii Fit and Wii Fit Plus). Comparing them, both games have the same fighting mechanic, IK+ has the better minigame but IK has the better music, IK+ has ane beautifully animated background but IK has 8 static backgrounds instead, IK+ has crazy fun 3-player matches, IK has strategic 2-player matches. I say, both games are among the best fighters on the VC (together with the Samurai Shodowns, Street Fighters and Super Smash Bros. 64).

I know IK+ and some other C64 VC games are limited by the virtual keyboard. You cannot press multiple buttons at the same time, which kills some options, cheat codes and functions.

And by the way: It never was the "T"-trick. That was just a misunderstanding of a cheat you read in the highscore list.

I explained earlier (in the C64 thread), that the full message was not about "pressing T" but "Pre..ssi..ng T..he A...ste...ris...k Ke...y..." etc.

The Trousers-Drop-cheat. I'm sure it's not banned from the VC release: It's just a multiple button combination that unfortunately doesn't work with the bad virtual keyboard in the crappy C64 emulator on VC. Or have you tried to press multiple buttons on the keyboard with multiple Wiimotes?

The rolling heads I'm not sure about... They should appear in the game... or maybe that was a hack?

I watched some Youtube vids and it seems we might be misremembering the heads from the Amiga version. They don't seem to appear in the C64 version.

Speaking of the bouncing balls though. I never knew this was possible!

No I just thought the game eventually cheated and threw so many at you you were swamped.
