Default What is up with the Final Fantasy games?

As many times as I've tried, I could not comprehend the plot of final fantasy. I've tried Playing the Games, I've even Played Final Fantasy 1 & 2 for the NES & SNES respectively, but still I don't understand it, and thus can't get 'into' any of the Final Fantasy games (or to a lesser extent ANY real RPGs). I've tried looking for Plot Synopsis of the series on the Internet, but I just can't seem to find any websites that start at the very beginning of the series and tell the plot, rather, most of them start at some Arbitrary point, like Final Fantasy 9 and explian from then, leaving me confused about the entire thing in general.

I figured a retro gaming forum would be the most appropriate place to ask this question, so could somebody place explain to me: What Final Fantasy Is, What the Plot has been up until know and why I should like these games; you know, a synopsis of FF.

Thanks in Advance

they're completely seperate plotlines in different worlds.
its not really a series, more of a name scheme.
They got too lazy to come up with names for each one, so they just named em all Final Fantasy.

simple as that.

Only FFX and FFX-2. First time there's ever been a sequel per-se, to an FF game.

Also, FFX (and FFX-2) is apparently a prequel to FFVII, which is something I never knew until recently. And of course Square are doing their multi-format thing now, so FFXII has a sequel on the DS.

FFXII is set in the same world as Vagrant Story, and the two Tactics games, and the two Crystal Chronicles games are related, but yes, in general, the main series games are unconnected.

There are also a number of thematic links, as certain ideas and concepts are re-used between games, but which aren't sequels per se.

Huh. I've always thought that the FF series was interconnected. Maybe I ought to give it a try then, one of these days.

I fell out with that type of game with FF III. So I wasn't aware of any of this, as I never checked up on it

Just get so sick of walk one step forward, hear lame music and nearly have a siezure due to screen flashing, press X/Touch attack, witness a number appear and then creature fade, hear a winning chime and music, watch screen fade to black. Walk another one step forward, hear lame music etc...

I played FF III for 5 hours on one section, constantly fighting and healing so that I was strong enough to continue, and I still got slaughtered. So I just gave up.
