Default Two player shoot-em-ups?

Are there any good two-player shooters on VC right now? And if not, what kind of titles should I look for?

I'm keen to get a shooter, but I'm trying to get mutliplayer games more at this point.

Excellent. Alas, it's not out in Blighty yet, but I'll keep an eye out for it. Cheers!

All that needs to be said is Gunstar Heroes and Contra III, my friends.

Shoot-em-ups not run and gun games.

I declare it heresy to play shoot 'em ups with two players. Always felt like a tacked on money-making ploy for arcades to me, and I'm yet to be convinced there's a single shooter that plays as well or better with another added player.

So I'm with the dude above: Gunstar Heroes or Contra III, forget the shmups.

Edit: Twinkle Star Sprites doesn't count.

Yeah, except I want a two-player shmup; if I wanted a run'n'gun, I'd just get Gunstar.

One of my favourite 2 player shoot em ups had to be lifeforce on the NES. That worked really well.

Has anyone ever tried player Ikaruga in 2 player mode? Urgh!!

Well... if everyone is hell-bent on defiling shooters () I'll throw my hat in the ring for any of the vertical TwinBee games. They were OK two-player. Parodius, too, for that matter.

They're not out yet though, are they? I'll keep an eye out though; I already had an interest in Parodius.

Thanks all.
