Default Turbografx CD Audio compresson .

Im here trying to find out more about the audio compresson used for the CD bassed Turbograp games .

I have heard Hudson admits that they used audio compresson to keep the file size down & thay also claim that most people wouldn't notice the difference .

What im trying to find out is how much its been compressed & wether its really noticable or not .

Many consoles compress sound files for various reasons. I believe the N64 has compressed sounds among many other systems.

Back in the Turbografx days the CD tracks weren't compressed at all.
They were audio tracks that approx. used up 95% of the space on the cd.

Today with mp3 and even better compression routines you won't notice any differences.
The compressed audio tracks are just much smaller without any quality loss.

I knew that the original Turbogeaphix CD audio wasn't compressed by I was talking about the virtual console versions of the games.

You mention the 95% of disc space being used which means that about 700MB of data ended up shrunk down to 40MB which means it should have 17% of the data is lost.
That amount I most probably pick out if I had the original to compare.
Ys book i&II being under 300 blocks & a couple of the WiiWare games I got are up to 320-330 blocks which means Hudson could do I bit more to retain as much info as possible out of those audio tracks.

Yeah most compression techniques nowadays are not that noticeable. I never heard of any problems with any TurboDuo games, although Gate of Thunder does have drowned out music.

You can't hear the music in the game, because the sound keeps over powering the music when you play.
