Misinterpretation of the Sega press release, I think.

Yes, I believe it was a misunderstood press release that led to the confusion. Still, I don't see any reason why MS games should be less than NES games.

The SMS was more powerful than the NES, so it doesn't make sense to have 400 point SMS games.

Unless you realize that price is not determined solely by power.

Indeed not, but all these cries of "I should only pay 400pts because I've never heard of it" don't wash, either.

Bah, its only 100 points difference. Its hardly going to cause Sega fans to raid the Sega HQs...

I think people are only crying about the 400 point thing because they only expected to have to pay 400 (that's what was allegedly "announced" after all!). If everyone expected 500 points all along, I don't think anyone would make a fuss. I don't really care—I had a Master System, and I know a few games that would be worth 500 and a few games that wouldn't (just like the pricing on any VC system).

Oh I understand that, and it's a bit of a gaffe from whoever put together that press release, but there are people, on this forum and elsewhere, who are moaning about paying 500pts for Master System games purely because they've never heard of the system. I have sympathy for those who feel that they were misled by that 400pt press release, but not much for the others.

Oh really? Then why is 500 points the bottom limit with the 8 bit consoles, and the C64 which most say should be less than 500, the 8 bit/16 bit hybrid TG at 600, 800 for TGCD and 16 bit, the Neo Geo which is more powerful than the 16 bot consoles at 900, and the N64 at 1000? That's clearly priced by power
