I often see people on these forums wishing for the Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest games to show up on the Virtual Console. Most of us know that this isn't going to happen, but what about other Square/Enix titles? Actraiser has already been released. I don't see why Square/Enix can't release The Secret of Mana games and the Heaven & Earth trilogy. Any thoughts?

[Already an EDIT]
Ehm....I think I'm a bit sleepy and I don't know what I read...It looks like I was sure we were talking of hoping for Square to work on WiiWare titles, sorry. [/EDIT] Remakes. It's probably the best thing I see in XBLA, for example. Talking of Square(soft) I'll be willing to dry out my bank account for WiiWare versions of: Bushido Blade Einhander Ehrgeiz These titles never appear in discussions about Square, but we have here the 2 most orginal fighting games ever developed and the best shooter of the past/present/future history of mankind. Final Fantasy.....tsè!!!! Last edited by neuzd; 12th March 2008 at 10:37 AM. |

Licensing is a complicated beast. I'm not sure of what the exact reasons are behind certain games being released and certain games being withheld. It's worth mentioning that ActRaiser was developed by a company other than Enix (like a lot of Enix's games), and that it is one of the company's older SNES games. Maybe it was a market feeler. Secret of Mana would be a fantastic addition to the VC, but there's no real precedent for quality Square games coming to the platform yet. Secret of Mana was also developed in-house, and S-E may be less willing to distribute those gems on the cheap.
Anyway, without more information, it's hard to say. I'd be happy to see some more old Enix games like Soul Blazer, but I think Square's going to take some convincing of the VC's profitability. Now, off to check our forum's very own "what games have you downloaded" list to see what kind of a message we're sending to S-E with our download of ActRaiser.

Would be nice to see more. The FF titles might be tricky with all these remakes/ports (GBA, PSP etc.) we ve seen. Still, would like to see all that non-FF stuff people have mentioned already.

The big title that should come to a platform like VC should be a title like Seiken Densetsu 3 (the sequel to Secret of Mana). But it won't for 2 reasons. It was HEAVILY popular in Japan (Squenix won't let a game of such popularity sell for the equivalent of 8 US dollars, etc for Yen and other countries) and it wasn't released outside of Japan. This would mean if it was gonna be released in other countries, it would have to be translated, and to be put on VC, it has to be left exactly how it was originally.
All the more reason this game should be re-released to a DS port. But it just goes to show that this game is a good example of why Square Enix isn't putting stuff on the VC. When they can remake some of their oldest games, such as the Dragon Quest titles from the NES days, and instead of selling them for 5 dollars a shot on VC, get almost 2 million units sold from just selling a remake of Dragon Quest IV in JUST Japan...they aren't going to put their titles on VC. Now, why the HELL they're withholding that remake of DQ IV from the rest of the world and never released SD3 to us, this is dumb.

Of course, a text-heavy game like Seiken Densetsu 3 would involve a lot more translation work than an action title, and that might be prohibitive. |

Beyond Chrono Trigger I'm not that much into Square but Enix is a different story.
Enix game? Maybe another curiosity? I believe Enix has the rights to Mischief Makers (N64). If that game is ever coming, I think it will be under the SquareEnix label. Also I'm hoping for EVO Search for Eden (SNES) and Terranigma (SNES). But maybe we'll get ActRaiser 2 (SNES), a game DEMON212 likes but no-one else. j/k I have to try it again, but I was so disappointed by the missing sim stages I loved from Actraiser 1 that I never wanted to play ActRaiser 2. Ten years have passed, I think I can cope with a action-only ActRaiser and appreciate it for what it is - hopefully good because the action stages weren't the thing why you'd have played the game. Or maybe not. |

While I think SD3 is very much wanted by a lot of people, much like some other games (Mother 3, Mischief Makers, etc), its really not going to be seen on VC just because Square Enix is greedy and could easily get 35 bucks just for porting the original thing over to the DS, no graphical enhancements, with WiFi capabilities. I'd buy it. I mean, it never came over here and It would be cheaper than what it cost when it came out on SNES. Plus I'd rather play it with two other people ON the DS than on my Wii by myself. But I doubt either will happen.

I think Square will probably do more Wiiware than anything.
That said, I will automatically download every game they release to try and convince them to bring me more |
