A buddy of mine is into all things disc, and I've played some ultimate with him and my friends, but never any disc golf. Looks like a lot of fun, though!

I LOVE DISC GOLF! It's popular out here in California since we can play year around!
several of my friends compete heres a link to the Deaf Disc Golf Association http://www.ddga.org/
we have some good courses, My fav is the DeLavega course in Santa Cruz, 27 holes of all types of terrains and elevation changes!!! there's one that you drive from like 300+ feet ABOVE the hole around 1000 yards away!

Awesome man, I'm sure your courses are a lot nicer than some of the ones we have out here in Michigan, but I can't complain at all. I'm not competitive at all when I play, I just do it to have fun with my friends outdoors

No ultimate is more of a traditional sport, with 2 teams, trying to catch the frisbee in the opponents goal to score, etc.

Yeah, ultimate is more like a soccer/football kind of competitive team point-scoring sport.

Gavin, RwN's movie man plays and constantly tries to get me to play. He claims it's a sport I can play while drunk so I may very well take him up on that.

Oh word, that makes more sense now. I had only said that because some of my friend sometimes refer to disc golf as ultimate frisbee

I can't believe I didn't see this earlier. I competed in disc golf for about 3-4 years up until my son was born and then something had to go. I was playing disc golf competitively. Now, I still play but only about once a month versus 3-4 times a week. I have actually won some tournaments and I was on a local cable channel show once.

Just to clear things up, disc golf is just like golf but you throw a disc instead and there are a few other rule differences as well. The main reason I like disc golf is that it's you versus the course and its one of the cheapest sports/hobbies to get into. Most courses are free and you only need one disc to play ($8-$15). Although once you get into it you'll want to buy more discs, each one dedicated to a certain throw. My experience with the sport is that the people that play it are cool. Even if you're new and you suck at first, people are still cool. Disc golfers also tend to want to help you with the sport anyway they can to grow the sport. The president of the club that I was once a member of would often play with new people just to let them know that everyone started out where they were and to teach them the basic rules. I have also given some of my old disc to people who stopped me and asked about the sport. Also, the courses are often very beautiful.

Poison, your friends are right. You can definitely play drunk or drink while playing a casual match. In my area, "smoking" is also done a lot while playing. Doing both is against the rules in tournaments but people do it anyways.

If anyone is more interested, check this out: http://www.pdga.com/

i love frolfing it sucks that i havent been able to play much this summer sense ive been playing slow pitch softball. But last year i would play every day and got really good now i suck I still can drive around 250-300 ft. If u throw backhand i would advise the power grip its when u have 4 fingers on the rim. If u get it down ull be able to bomb the disc

I actually suggest working on putting if you want to better your scores. Taking 100 putts from a couple different locations each day will improve you short game a lot. Almost anyone who plays can drive between 200-300 feet but it's the players who never miss putts that place in tournaments. When practicing your putting start putting from short distances and don't move further away until you're making the majority of your putts. Also, developing different throws and being vestal also helps. My flick is as good if not better then my backhand. Throw a roller or hammer throw into your arsenal and you have even more versatility.

I heard that Tiger Woods has disc golf also, and that it's better then Wii Sport Resort's disc golf game. I don't know if this is true or not. If anyone here has played both, please let us know.

I had heard nothing of this until you mentioned it, but after doing a quick bit of quality google research it is in fact true.

http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3173854

It definitely looks awesome, and far more realistic than Wii Sports Resorts Disc Golf. This is not to say that Wii Sports Resorts version is not up to par, cause I still have a blast playing it.

After now knowing this awesome fact, I'm gonna have to seriously look into purchasing the new Tiger Woods!

It would be cool if someone on the forum had it to let us know how good it is.

I'm sure it's significantly better than the one on WSR. It's in a dedicated golf game after all, with full golf-related physics and big detailed courses, whereas the WSR version is on a disc full of 20 mini-games. While the WSR one is good pick-up-and-play fun, there's no chance they put as much attention to detail into it.

You could be right, but I wasn't sure if the disc golf in Tiger was tacked on at the last minute or if it had some proper time put into it.
