After years of continuous attempts and starting over, I just beat Final Fantasy VIII and I was very impressed with the big picture. The ending wrapped it up nicely too. As far as I'm concerned, VIII was the first Final Fantasy game to really craft and develop characters that were worth caring about. I was never able to beat Omega Weapon but I think I'll live. I beat the game with all GFs and best weapons so I am satisfied.
The only other two I have beaten are the original Final Fantasy and Final Fantasy IX, both of which I loved immensely. I think I will have to play through IX again soon, when I can find the time, because upon completing that game it was pretty obvious to me that it was in my top five games ever, for sure. I've played almost all the way through VII but I just wasn't compelled to finish it. Didn't enjoy the game much. ...Anyone else a half-fan?

I beat the original Final Fantasy on the GBA remake, and Final Fantasy VI (Playstation version) which is my favourite FF of all time, it makes my top 10 games of all time. I nearly got to the end of Final Fantasy VII and I thought it was a great game but I eventually stopped playing it, intending to go back but I never did which is a shame. I also have Final Fantasy X but never got very far, and Final Fantasy III (on DS) which I stopped playing because I got bored. I'm a semi-fan of the series, they're consistantly good RPGs.

VIII has a great story, but it's a very flawed game. It would have made a great movie.

I never really got anywhere in any FF game before VII. FF7 is my favorite game of all time. I've put so many hours into it. I really enjoyed FF8 until about disc 3, then I just lost interest. FF9 was a great one, I beat that. FFX was enjoyable, but I got to a spot where I got stuck and just never proceeded any further. FFX-2 was a joke. I still need to get FFXII, I heard it's amazing.

i played 7 a lot but ever beat it. i got to the big hole / crater or whatever and found that my guys were totally underpowered.
ff8 was great but the pacing felt off. i got up to disk 3 on my first play though but could never be bothered to get that far again after my save corrupted. (and taught me to always ALWAYS have a back up save.)

Wow! you actually finished FF8? thats dedication. i couldn't get past the totally unnecessary Draw system. if that wasnt enough, the game punished you for exploring alittle by lowering your allowance. Then requiring a passing grade on a test to improve income! honestly, what were they thinking? Its not the worst game in the series, that title belongs to FF11 (Elvaan Dragoon useless my #$%!)
I'd have to say my favorite FF is 6, with 12 a very close second. that is of course, if were not counting Tactics, that game takes the cake! 4 was the first RPG i ever played, or got into, i cant remember. if you havent played 12 yet get on it! your missing out. Dragoons Da #$&%! |

I adored FF8. Easily my favourite FF, although I could never get into the 2D ones, more's the shame. I got really bored in FFX, as it seemed to be really linear in comparison to the others.
The one thing that the FF games need to be perfect is the system they had in Tales Of Symphonia which is a little hints thing which tells you where you're meant to be going next. I've given up on so many games like that because I've left them for a couple of weeks and I can't for the life of me remember what I'm meant to be doing.

I highly recommend Xenogears and Final Fantasy Tactics for the PS1.
both can be found on ebay under 30$, and both are FANTASTIC RPGs from our good friends at Squaresoft. better than FF7 and FF8? I thought so. FF6? I thought so. Chrono Trigger? hmm....Yea....I thought so. Graphics don't matter in an RPG.

FF8 was a funny game and it was the first one I ever managed to complete (it’s not a hard game either). It’s neat that you can steal magic and stuff from the monsters and the summons are very entertaining. However, the game does punish you for using magic and the fact that enemies stay the same level as you takes all the fun out of leveling-up (though it does make things fun to play through the game at only level 12).
/another fun thing you can do is name all your characters on ff7 “Sephiroth”, it makes for a much more interesting story. |
