Hush your mouth! The Turbografx port was near arcade-perfect, as I recall, and we may yet see it on VC. As long as we don't see the NES version...

The TG-16 version was woeful compared to the arcade! I am a huge Shinobi fan, I shall list my faults with this conversion:

* No power ups!

* No close up attack!

* Level 2 is missing!

* No Bonus rounds!

Yes it is a big shame a proper Megadrive conversion was never released, it could have been arcade perfect!

Thankfully revenge of shinobi and shinobi 3 more than made up for this.

For good old one-hit-and-you-die shinobi you could do a lot worse than Shadow Dancer on the Megadrive, it's very different to the arcade version. I much prefer it myself!

There was a Shinobi game for the NES? I never knew that. Although I'm not a big Shinobi fan, I thought the first Revenge of Shinobi was pretty good.

Don't get too excited. It was pants as well. I am quite fond of the Sega Master System version even though it is far from a great conversion. Maybe one day Sega will give us a 'Virtual Master System Convertor' for the Virtual Megadrive! lol

Yeah, MS Shinobi was great (as was Alex Kidd in Shinobi World), definitely as good as the arcade version, but quite different. NES Shinobi was an atrocity.

I'd love to see Master System support on VC; it had some fantastic unique games that we won't see otherwise, like Phantasy Star, to name just one.

Streets of Rage 2 is coming out in case you didn't know. We just don't know when. What a day that will be! By the way, what's the difference between the Master System and Genesis versions of Sonic the Hedgehog?

The Master System Sonics were quite different to the MD ones. Rather than attempting a half-arsed port, Sega built them towards the strengths of the MS, so they're just as good in their own way, but quite different in terms of level design and so on.

I would try and put some screengrabs up, but I don't think that's the best way to compare them, as the MS will just look bad! The MS Sonics are just really well designed, brilliantly playable platformers that aren't as flashy as their MD cousins, but are still great games. And I reckon the music on the MS versions is better, but that's just me.

Eliminate Down
Gaiares
Hybrid Front
Micro Machines 2
MUSHA
Panorama Cotton
Rocket Knight Adventures - it's up there with the Sonics.
Splatterhouse 3
Shining Force 2 - they can skip 1 imo.
Thunder Force 2-4 - yes, I like the top down levels in 2.
Yu Yu Hakusho – Makiyou Taisen - great 4p fighter by Treasure.

Monster World 4, King Colossus, Dynamite Headdy (jap version), Langrisser 2, Pulseman, Twinkle Tale, Trouble Shooter 2 - they're already translated

Micro Machines would be a great VC choice, especially as it's four-player, and there weren't many of those on the MD.

Really the megadrive only fits two controllers

I was thinking that myself. Were there any four player genesis games by any chance?

The MD had a multitap, but I don't know how many games supported it. Micro Machines had two potential four-player modes, as I recall; there was a way to play with two people using one controller, one player using the d-pad to steer, the other using the fire buttons. I think acceleration was automatic. I may be misremembering that.

But what MM (and a bunch of other Codemasters games, like Pete Sampras Tennis and Skidmarks) did have was the J-Cart. It had two extra joypad ports built into the cartridge itself, so all you needed was to get a couple of extra pads.

EDIT: The original MM wasn't a J-Cart, it seems, although I'm sure you could pad-share. MM2 was definitely a J-Cart though, and so you could pad-share too and thus play eight players on a Megadrive!

I have the cart for MM2 here it's just a different shape, I don't see how you could get another controller in using it

There were two versions released, as I remember. One normal one, and one J-Cart.

Here's the version I'd guess you don't own:

See the two extra controller ports at the top of the cart?

Actually there were 2 separate multitaps, which I own..

One of them was for EA games only (those cheap *******s) like General Chaos and the NHL series.

Lost Vikings is a 3-player puzzle/platform game by Blizzard. One of their first games.

Other 4-player games:
Mega Bomberman - port of Bomberman '94 I think..
Yu Yu Hakusho (by Treasure) is an excellent 4-player fighter.
Street Racer - it's like Mario Kart.
Tiny Toons Acme All-Stars
Wimbledon Tennis
Puzzle & Action games - these are kinda like Wario Ware for GBA.

Columns 3 is for 1-5 players, Dodgeball: Kuy Kid is for 1-6 players, and Double Dribble for 1-8!
Haven't tried them out with more than 2 though.

D'oh. Of course. I even own this one, so I should have known it was a Tap game!

It's not quite a straight port. There are more features and levels in Mega than in '94, but the MD version is clearly based on the TG16 version.

Yeah, that Lion King game didn't age well at all though. Still, nice gfx/sound it did have. It did have that indeed.

None of them are out

TWIN COBRA ISN'T OUT?!

Suprising. Very classic, very Sega, and very Nintendo too.

I can understand the others.

I've recently gotten into the run n' gun genre. So I'd have to say:
Contra: Hard Corps
Alien Soldier

Even if I had a Wii, I don't think I would get Alien Soldier on the VC as it was only released in Europe and Japan and I happen to live in America. I might have to fork over the 60 dollars and buy the game then find a PAL to NTSC converter just to play. Oh well.
