Best 2D Sonic Game! Best Sonic Game

What do you think the best 2D Sonic game is out of this list:

I think Sonic 2 is the best because of its gameplay, Going down the 50 Ring slide is really fun.

My all-time favorite Sonic game is the epic Sonic 3 and Knuckles. I've voted for Sonic & Knuckles because Sonic 3 and Knuckles is a Sonic & Knuckles lock-on game.

This topic should really be called "best 16-bit Sonic game" because none of the Master System games or handheld games are there.

If you linked Sonic 3 with Sonic & Knuckles you could go through the Sonic 3 world as Tails and then to the Sonic & Knuckles world as Tails?

Yes, linking the two together lets you play through Sonic 3 then the Sonic & Knuckles levels as any character. S&K is more of an expansion pack than a game of its own.

I'm just asking these questions because I havent played Sonic and Knuckles that much.

No, with Sonic 2 it just lets you play Sonic 2 with Knuckles. With Sonic 1 you get an extended version of the blue spheres bonus game. The main reason for getting Sonic & Knuckles is for Sonic 3 & Knuckles.

So using Sonic 3 you can save in Sonic and Knuckles?

Yes, it's just like one long game.

2 and 3 are pretty much tied in my mind. A few months ago I said I liked 2 a little better, but now I like 3 a little better. So it goes.

I agree that 3 wasn't much of a progression from 2, but looking at them as retro titles they're just about equal.

Original Sonic, since I've played it the most.

The best in the series however, is one of the Advance Games on the GBA. They were great.

As a Retro I like Sonic 2 better but right now I'm playing Sonic, Sonic and Knuckles, Sonic 3 and Sonic CD because I played Sonic 2 so much.
So what I'm saying is that in the long run I like Sonic 2 better but right now I like the other Sonic Games better.

Yes but they arn't simple, they have a big story. I think Sonic games should have a simple story like saving animals.

Well, You can ignore the story if you want, The story isn't exactly Finnegan's Wake, but whilst playing through the first Advance recently, I found very little mention of the story forced upon me.

Sonic CD for me was the best one. Great gameplay and cool concepts. The whole change the future by effecting the past aspect was really cool. After that I'd say Sonic 2.

Not many people like Sonic 3 or Sonic and Knuckles for some reason, I think Sonic 2 is the best but after that I would say Sonic 3 or Sonic CD there both as good as one another.

Sonic 3 & Knuckles hands down for me
Although there wasnt much storyline, there was a little and it had you engaged, sort of epic you could say.
Like when Knuckles starts to help you I thought that was cool.
Then comes Sonic 2.

I dont really like Sonic CD that much I dont see the hype tbh, then again I havent completed it yet i played it for about half an hour and turned it off

Sonic 3 and Knuckles, followed by Sonic 1. Every other game gets sandwiched inbetween; really short levels that are over before they begin, and lack of a decent save feature.

Sonic 3 and Knuckles is pretty good, I've had time to play it now.
I would class it as Sonic 3, since Sonic 3 and Knuckles arn't in my list.

I still like Sonic 2 the best though, because it has the best 2-Player mode.

I voted for Sonic 2. It simply had all my favorite levels. I've seen some video gameplay of Sonic CD and that does look really good. I wish I could try it.

Find Sonic Gems Collection for Gamecube. It has Sonic CD on it, it's pretty cheap now too.

It's worth it. Sonic CD and Sonic 2 are my favorite 2D Sonic games.

Sonic 1 is a classic, Sonic 2 is pure awesomeness, Sonic 3 had saving, and Sonic and Knux had Knuckles (Knux=awesome), and I've never played Sonic CD.

my answer is Sonic 2 cus it had great gameplay, 2 player feature, and awesome music.

if it was between sonic 1, 2, 3 and knuckles and cd. then Sonic and knuckles wins.

If it was between sonic 1, 2, 3 and sonic 3 and knuckles (The true sonic 3!)
then sonic 3 and knuckles without a doubt. one of the finest games I've ever played in my life.
Sonic 2 has NOTHING on Sonic 3 and Knuckles imo.

I really liked Sonic and Knuckles... I thought the worlds were very cool with all of their springly gadgets and such and it looked really good to boot.
