Default Game Gear?

So...how long has there already been talk about the GG coming to VC without any news? It's already been so long I can't even remember how the whole thing actually began. Was it an official statement by Nintendo and/or Sega? Has there been ANY new piece of information about the whole matter since then?

Well there's absolutly no official reports of the GameGesr or any other portable console comming to the Wii what so ever.
It's only started by rumers by people who can't tell the difference between a home console & a portable.

So I'm guessing that the portible virtual Console be on the DS successor or a lesser extent Nintendos stopgap,i.

When Sega announced it, it announced SMS and GG games or something along those lines. Since then, nothing else has been said about the GG on VC, so either they changed their minds (Perhaps for the DSi's possible future VC) or its the falut of the slow release rate of the SMS libabry.

Mind you, now they ve got the SMS Sonics out the way (Except Spinball and Mean Bean SMS, plus that Brazil Only Sonic Blast SMS Port), perhaps we ll see the Hedgehog's GG exclusive games soon enough...

Sega hasn't stated at all about releasing GameGear on the Virtual Console .
The only places talking GameGear is by reader comments on articles about the Master System Virtual Console .

What i like to know how did this massive mixup happen .
This is jus as bad as the PS1 PSX mixup .
The 2 are completely systems PS1 Sony's first console but the PSX is a PS2 PVR combo .

Both mixups are by overhyped fanboys .

Im guessing that the Portable Virtual Console be on Nintendo's true DS successor which im guessing being anaunce later this year ather there Stopgap system allready released worldwide .

Actually I'm damn sure Sega did say they were going to release Game Gear games under the SMS name when the SMS was first announced.

Boy oh boy...

First, your off-hand comment about people not being able to tell the difference between a console and a handheld isn't as relevant as you'd like it to be, since the SMS and GG are a special case.

Second, the PS1 was originally launched in press material from Sony itself with the PSX abbreviation. It was only after the PS2 and then the later advent of the "real" PSX that the "PS1" abbreviation became "official" for the original PlayStation. A lot of people just assume that people just conflate the abbreviations in error, but the PS1 was being abbreviated "PSX" long before the PSX was ever released.

I'm sure someone with something to prove will come along and give you some original press report from Sega about those GG VC games. Either way, we all know there's been no word about it for months and months—certainly since before the DSi was originally announced.

All the talk of Game Gear games being on the VC comes from the original press release by Sega regarding Master System support; it mentioned that in addition to Master System games the VC would also be supporting the Game Gear and Mark III (which is kinda like the Famicon was to the NES). This wasn't just some rumour started out of nowhere.

That being said, there are very few worthwhile GG games that didn't get a release on SMS anyway, and Mark III support is Japan-only, so we're not really missing anything. Plus, any GG game (or Game Boy game, for that matter) is gonna look like **** when blown up to fit the entire screen, and who wants to play it with borders?

People with big TVs. I wouldn't mind playing a GG game with borders in order to make it look good on my TV. As long as everything looks good and is big enough to see, then who even looks at borders anyway?

Thanks for stealing my thunder;I was going to say the PSX thing.

Although I dunno about any good Game Gear games. Personally, besides Nintendo consoles, I'd love to see the Neo Geo Pocket. Anyone else concur?

It's not that the borders would be distracting, I'm just making the point that you can only blow up 8-bit graphics made for 160x144 resolution by so much until they start to look really, really bad, especially on modern TVs. It's the only reason I can think of that's kept Nintendo from putting their GB/C library up for download. Average as they might look today, at least NES/SMS stuff natively supports 256x198, so you're seeing them as they are, not as a chunky, upscaled mess. Plus, like I said, there are so few decent GG games that don't also have a SMS version that it's not a huge loss.

When the DSi was announced to have a slightly larger screen I figured they were upping the resolution so as to allow Megadrive/SNES games to be played via a VC-style download, but it turns out they're just made using bigger pixels. Still fits NES/SMS stuff perfectly, though.

That would be neat, although there weren't a huge amount of original games for it that were much good. Sonic Pocket Adventure, the SNK vs Capcom card game, the two Metal Slug games and... that's about it. The 2D fighters were alright, but not really worth bothering with over the real versions.

The GameBoy Player does have a selection of 20 borders & even a couple with simple animation .

I tried a GB emu on Wii widescreen 16:9
have tried the very early GB game "Gargoyle's Quest - Ghouls'n Ghosts". (Of course I have the original game boy game) to run over vb advance om the homebrew channel. the quality is very fine. No doubt Game Boy games will run perfectly and look very good on TV even without borders! Fullscreen mode ftw!

I'm also playing an GBA game (MOTHER3) on My Wii, it also looks great but there's some hic-ups in the music. An official emu by Nintendo wouldn't have that and I'm sure we get our chance to play GB games on a tv screen again.

The best would be double releases, all Game Boy games at the same time downloadable on DSiWare and WiiWare.

It's not pointless. The DSi is a new console with new gameplay.

The camera allows for a new kind of gameplay in the sense of the PS2 Eyetoy-Cam. (Levels based on your own pictures / Games played with face and hand movements)

The SD Card too allows for new kinds of gameplay, with games that depend on your own personal music and games that need lots of saving memory.

So there's gonna be a new games only playable on the DSi.

The rest (integrated online browser, shop, music mixer, photo manager etc.) is just a nice addition.

The DSI is only a halfway step to the successor just like early HD ready TV's .
Early HD ready TV's have the HDMI port but its not much better than the resolution as compaired to the old CRT TV that im using to display the text here so its only a halfway stopgap .

I agree with kelvin, Shinobi was one of the best Game Gear games. A lot of blood, sweat, and tears were put into this game. Though I keep dying at Highway.

I haven't played a lot of games on the Game Gear, but outside of Sonic the Hedgehog series, I also loved Crystal Warriors. It is a barebones SRPG that offers quite a bit of a challenge, had good music, and I love the elemental Rock-Scissors-Paper system.
