The review in this thread is about the Master System version. If the 8-bit Sonic 2 is your favourite though, then more power to you.

honestly i think the master system/game gear sonic 2 is just to hard and you dont get rings for the bosses so that makes it harder and yeah the 1st zone isnt even a green hill zone knock off!

I didn't like this game as much as the other SMS/GG Sonics. It was still really cool - I loved that mine cart stage - but I just...didn't like it that much. Although, I guess it was better than the GG version of Sonic Blast. Now that game was horrible!

This has to be the hardest Sonic game I've played so far. I like it and it does try some new things...like hang gliding, not fighting Dr Robotnik at the end of every stage. I'm looking forward to beating it so I can move on though.

Good but not great IMHO (so far...)

Has to be the oddist Sonic game. Eggman hardly appears so we get odd bosses like a seal, a viking (?) and such, and when I finished it, Sonic looked up in the sky to see a bluey Tails. What, did Tails die or something? 0.o

No idea about Emeralds mind. Saw nothing that hinted special stages... :/

I had this when I used to own Sonic Gems Collection. Didn't like it much though.

The Emeralds are hidden in the second stage of each zone. I've stumbled upon a few of them but they can be tough to get to even if you know where they are. If you get them all, I understand there is another level (the real last level) and, of course, a different ending.

Congrats on beating it! Even without the emeralds, that's quite a feat!!!
