Default Sega/Mega CD games on VC possible?

Do you guys think we'll ever see Sega/Mega CD games on the VC? I don't see why not as we already have TG16CD games on the VC, I don't think that any of the Sega CD games got over 100MB in data (correct me if I'm wrong); Sonic CD was less than that, so I could see it fitting in the Wii's internal memory or on an SD card.

I wouldn't mind seeing Sega CD games considering I never had a SCD for my Genesis, and it would be cool to play some of the games, especially Snatcher.

What do you think?

I think the Sega CD games actually came pretty close to filling up a CD because of the video most of them used. They probably could do some sort of compression, but the video on SCD games already looked bad enough.

I would love to see SCD games on the VC though. Why Nintendo thought 512MB of internal memory was enough is beyond me. Probably so they can eventually gouge us with some sort of hard drive "expansion".

I don't see why not. Although it's not Sega's most loved hardware there are a few good games on it that'll make it worth while. I think they should do the Master System first though.

I'm pretty sure some games were quite a bit more than that actually. There were some games that came on 2 CDs, meaning they must have at least filled up the 500MB capacity available on one CD.

I guess they would compress the audio, that would make the files smaller.

Video and audio compression technology has come a long way since the mid 90s so I think this might be possible.

I think that was more down to the technical limitations of the hardware (slow CD drive, limited resolution, limited number of colours) than compression. There were a few "Mega CD 32X" games, which were CD games that required a MD 32X and a Mega CD (there weren't many released for obvious reasons), and these had much better quality video without having any more space.

I don't think the music on Mega CD had any compression, often the soundtrack was just stored as audio tracks on the CD. With modern audio compression most people wouldn't notice a difference.

Hopefully it should be possible, somehow some way.

Either that, or Sega starts taking notes from SNK (IE Compalation discs...)

It's perfectly possible, if they compress the audio like Hudson did for the TurboGrafx CD games, and perhaps they can even compress the data and load it to RAM... but this is SEGA, so they'd either use poor compression or do something else wrong with the emu.

If you really want to try them, either get a DC or a Saturn second hand or wait patiently for the Wii 3, because none of those are gonna happen on this Wii generation.

It's not a "who knows, perhaps they will", it's a "not technically possible" matter. The closest thing they can do is porting them, like the upcoming HOTD2&3 and the rumored Space Channel 5.

Does anyone know why they ported the PC version of Sonic CD in Sonic Gems Collection instead of the Mega CD version? Could that be because there are problems emulating the Mega CD?

Proberly it was easier, just like how they used the PC Port of Sonic R instead of the Saturn version (And we all know why...)
