Call me skeptical that this is IGN reporting it and its from a company I haven't heard of that is suppose to hold the rights to the game or something.

I'll just wait till its announced officially by all the normal sources and then rejoice. With all the times IGN has burned me in the past, I just don't listen to them anymore. And especially since this is one of my most wanted NES games to come to Virtual Console and one of my few wanted NES games to come to virtual console that I've never played before.

I already have River City Ransom EX for GBA. I'm wondering if the original is worth getting. Are there any experts who could maybe give some advice? I'm not sure that I'm willing to drop the money for it just for two player capability when I have the GBA cart.

Juice, I'll chime in and say that the multiplayer aspect of the game is perhaps the most appealing part of the whole deal. I've played through this game many a time, and 90% of those times has been multiplayer. Take all of RCR's hilarity and multiply it exponentially.

That is, if you have chums around to play it with.

if that article is correct it means we are getting the crappy NES double dragon and not the master system version which I always felt was better. I think I'll wait for the master system version.

The chances of them releasing the same game on two different platforms is slim. It's not impossible, but it's unlikely. I'm with you—I'd rather have the SMS version—but I'm not going to get my hopes up. (If I were, I'd also be holding back for the better version of Bubble Bobble.)

River City is dope, no doubt, but I'm gonna have to hold out for the slim chance that my personal favorite Technos Japan title is coming to the VC at some point. I'm talking about Crash N The Boys: Street Challenge, which is like an Olympic style competition with River City style graphics. If you haven't played it, grab it on emulator, its the shizz. The game is similar to Ransom, with shopping in between events, where you could purchase different items to give you an edge in the next event, and also a fighting event, which was very similar to the gameplay in River City. Hit it up!
