Mark Pacini director of Metroid Prime 3: Corruption has proclaimed that the development team will be taking a break from the classic series.
This comes as no real surprise, Retro have said all along that there would only be 3 games in the Metroid Prime series. It's perfectly understandable that the development team want to move onto another series and get some enjoyment back in there work. The question is, which classic Nintendo series will they work on? Anyone got suggestions on what they'd like to see? On a personal note, my Metroid Prime journey came to an end last night, completing Corruption was rather bittersweet. The satisfaction of completing an excellent, exemplar Wii title but also the sadness knowing they're probably won't be another Retro made Metroid game in this consoles lifetime. Long live Metroid Prime. Read more about 'Retro Taking A Break From Metroid'

I think this is good news, Retro are a great developer but all they've done so far is Metroid, I'd like to see what else they can do.

Retro started with a trio of Gamecube games,
but cancelled two of them to focus work on Metroid Prime. Most of the staff are ex-members of Acclaim/Iguana and produced games like Turok on the N64. Raven Blade cancelled (Cube) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vGwcNdUozlY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yVcpByetZ2Y Retro Studios Football cancelled (Cube) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PTj401sG32U http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hlC-zDaqvD4 |

They won't be doing a NFL game, that's for sure, since Madden has the NFL locked up.
I wouldn't rule out Raven Blade though. I think that was the main game they were developing when Metroid fell into their laps. It involves swords so maybe it would be perfect on the Wii with motion sword fighting. I really respect Retro. They are a team that really understands what people want in their clasic series. So if I got to pick a Nintendo series that I wanted Retro to work on next it would be StarFox. We have not had a really good StarFox game since the N64 so it would be cool to see what Retro could do for the series. Also, I think they would be good at developing a new Kid Icarus game. In my opinion I think they'll want to create something new and all their own for their next game. |

I'd like to see what Retro could do with Zelda. I doubt Nintendo would let them but they're deffinitely good enough and I think a change of developer would be good for the Zelda series at this stage.

Oh my, this is interesting. It would be pretty awesome if Retro tried something new, and that Raven Blade video DOES look cool...
