1 - Metroid Prime
2 - Ikaruga
3 - Sonic Heroes
4 - Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader
5 - Super Mario Sunshine

PS: Beyond Good & Evil and SSX 3 could enter for the list, case I did not have them in the PS2 version.

In no particular order:

Super Mario Sunshine
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker
Metroid Prime
Star Fox: Assault

And why only 5? I'd also like to mention Paper Mario and the Thousand Year Door, Pikmin 1 & 2, Donkey Kong: Jungle Beat, Viewtiful Joe 1 & 2, Soul Calibre II, Tales of Symphonia, Pokemon Colliseum, The Legend of Zelda: Four Swords Adventures, Metroid Prime 2: Echoes, Metal Gear Solid: Twin Snakes, and Animal Crossing.

And Chibi-Robo

The Gamecube had so many great games that I simply cannot effective choose one over the other, least of which in a Top 5.

Actually, Timp, could you replace Bomberman Generation with Super Monkey Ball 2 please? I sold that game years ago, and completely forgot about how much I loved it. Bomberman Generation was good, but SMB2 was so much better. I need to buy it again sometime soon...

Well, you might want to be a little fair, and pick one game from franchise (just a suggestion).

BTW, have you not played RE4? Just wondering, since it's not on your I'd like to mention. Or did you just not like it (perish the thought)?

No, I never played it. I might try the Wii version at some point, but for now, the only Gamecube Survival-Horror game that I'll be playing is Eternal Darkness...once I get it.

Why only 5?? To make it easier for me :P And because this thread was many for my benefit in ebaying some old classics and buying more than 5 games would prove excessive. I can't go past wind waker and ikaruga myself.

and SKTTR
1 the legend of zelda: The wind waker
2 super mario sunshine
3 the legend of zelda: Twilight princess
4 paper mario
5 pikmin

I took this as your top 5 - I tried to keep collectors edition disc out since its really nes and n64 games. But I am kicking myself for letting the megaman anniversary disc creep in... especially since it is only available in north america.

I put Twilight Princess as my number 1 game for Gamecube, but wonder if it should be taken off...When I got my Wii, I traded in that game to get the motion controls Wii version (a decision i do not regret to this day)...well, it was still a Gamecube game, so I guess it qualifies

wait a sec please.
if you want a concrete gamecube top 5
please let the collectors editon of zelda slip
and take out twilight and pikmin
(because twilight for me is a wii game and i have the wii version.
and pikmin is coming to wii in a few weeks
so i'd put them on my wii list instead and rather dump the cube versions from my top 5)

1. The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
2. The Legend of Zelda: Collector's Edition
3. Super Mario Sunshine
4. Paper Mario
5. Pikmin 2

1. LOZ: Wind Waker

Loved the sense of exploration and the surprisingly dark tone that belied the often criticised cell shading (which I thought worked beautifully).
I like it even more after playing through the overrated Twighlight Princess.

2. Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time

Gloriously atmospheric, beautifully designed game that again has only improved in my eyes since the emergence of its Americanised sweary, utterly puerile sequel.

3. Geist

Criminally overlooked, gloriously inventive First Person Adventure that evoked memories of Omikron and an attempt to do something generally original. Multi player looked decent too.

4. Resident Evil 4

Awesome reboot of the RE franchise that showed what many of us already knew the GC had the raw power to beat off the PS2 and the Xbox if placed in the right hands. Great atmospheric tension thorughout.

5. Eternal Darkness

Unfortunately didn't hold my interest long enough to finish it but still a fantastic idea with some well implemented "sanity effects" and a decent attempt at storytelling. Will get back to it one day.

Honourable mentions:

Luigi's Mansion, Killer 7, PN03, Resident Evil Remake,

Resi 4 isn't a survival horror game...and I'm not sure ED is either come to think of it.

I agree with most of your list. I'vve never played Killer 7 but it's one of the few games Ben "Yahtzee" Croshaw (from Zero Punctuation) likes, so it must be good.

they're action-adventures to the core,
(with a horror setting)

some say RE4 is a 3rd-person-shooter with rpg elements.

What SKTTR wrote, plus the back of RE4 does state:

"forget survival horror"

...enough said!

Survival horror games for me are about managing limited resources (i.e. ammo) in dangerous settings.
I never once ran out of ammo in Resi 4 while Eternal Darkness is horror themed but really an adventure game at heart and...well without spoiling things in any real way you don't need to worry about surviving as much as staying sane

Also forgot to shout out to Beyond Good And Evil which I would have placed in any GC top 10 too. Can't wait for the sequel.

From what I've played so far, this would be my top five...

1. Tales of Symphonia
2. Wind Waker
3. Paper Mario: TTYD
4. Soul Calibur II
5. Viewtiful Joe

Granted I haven't finished most of these games but I've played each for a few hours and they all seem nice.
