I'm still in Chapter 5, DQIV. We're levels 17 through 19. I'm still looking for another party member. I can't remember where he is....I'm exploring....

I've been playing Dragon Quest V off and on at home, usually for 20-30 minutes at a time. Right now I'm at the 6:00 mark. My main character is level 16 or 17 or so. There's a slime named Slim in my party!

Still playing DQIV. I'm levels 31 through 34. I'm near the final boss...kind of grinding and saving money. I'm still not sure what party I want to use for the last fight. For much of the game, I've used Grianne (Hero), Torneko, Meena, and Maya. Torneko is fun to use but probably isn't a good option for the last fight...since sometimes he goofs off or doesn't follow my commands. We'll see.

Anyway, I should see the credits in the next day or two unless stuff comes up.

I liked Alena at the end of the game because she would get critical hits pretty consistently against enemies that sometimes liked to buff up. And she was fast. But then again, one of the great things about that game is that you can make a good case for almost any character combination.

Alright, DQIV is finally [re-]beaten. As much as I'd love to do post-credits clean-up, I don't want to lag even more so I'll start the next one in the next day or so.

Phew!

That last fight was literally an hour long. My heroine was one level lower than when I beat it the first time...not by intention - it just turned out that way. She is level 33.

But if you don't do the post-game chapter, you can't get the secret final character on your team!

Very well...I'll bite the bullet and finish it up. It'd be a shame to play it twice and still not look at the extras...

It actually is a chapter unto itself with its own new ending etc. and if you're not going for insane completion it should only take you a couple of hours tops.

I'm in Chapter 6 of DQIV. My peeps range from levels 32 through 36. I'm grinding and, after a few more levels, am going to try again to take on a rather vicious boss.

I finally, finally beat chapter 6. I'm done with this for now. I strongly suspect there's at least one more bonus dungeon and I sure didn't find all monsters (am missing 1, not to mention I completely blew off the Pioneer Town sidequest, but I'll get back to all of that another day.

One thing I really love about this game, aside from how you actually get to meet the characters individually, is that everyone in your party is different as well as worthwhile. There's no throw-away members. You can make a good case for relying on any of them depending on your preferences and fighting style. I can't say the same all that frequently.

I'll start DQV either today or tomorrow. Imma marry someone different this time.

I chose to marry Deborah. I have a save right before the big decision, so I may thing about trying to :C: this one as well... though it's still not sucking me in as much as DQIV did.

I just got to Gotha. I'm level 24. I still have a Slime named Slim in my active party. She's so cute! I should have married her...

I just played this for three hours on my ride back home to NB. My main character is now level 30, with the rest of my party trailing close behind (Slim is also level 30). I'm looking for some dragon eyes. Things are starting to ramp up.

Dragon Quest VIII looks pretty awesome. But I'm worried if I start playing it it will take over my life.

I just beat DQV a couple of minutes ago. Chubbs the level 13 Great Dragon was my MVP. What a machine. Good final boss fight. There's still a ton of optional stuff left to do for completion, not to mention seeing the rest of the game with the other two possible wives... we'll see if I have the stamina for all that nonsense later on...

I'll start DQVI later this week.

Woah - I hadn't posted here in awhile. My hero, Darnay, is level 13 now in DQV. I just got to the town of Fortuna. I have upgraded my weapons but I want some new armor before I move on...yet I'm out of money. I also want to play some poker.

So far, I'm liking this game still. It is way to early for me to remember it well enough to compare it with IV, though...

Sorry for the double-post, but now I'm level 18. I stabbed westward...

Anyway, this game has totally grabbed me once again. I love it. I want to recruit everyone. I hope it has bonus dungeons at the end....

Part of me wants to go back at some point and beat the extra dungeon(s) in III and I think there was still one more in IV that I never saw. Dang, I should probably just stay focused on enjoying these as I go. I'm bound to get burned out at some point....I'm not even halfway through the series yet.

Yesterday, September 15th in the year of our Lord 2011, Darnay and Nera were wed in holy matrimony.

I'm level 22.

Dragon Quest VI

I just got access to Alltrades Abbey, which is kind of exciting. I also have a ship and no agenda, so it's blind & wild sailing for me for a while.

What I have learned by playing DQ6 in the Spanish is that I do not know the reflexive quite as well as I thought. In unrelated news, when you are playing this game in Spanish (as I know you all aspire to), pay very close attention to the attack descriptions, lest you choose the attack that causes your idiot mage to punch himself in the face.

Okay, I just beat DQV again. I did it at level 39 this time (my first time I was 41). I bet you can beat it at 37 or so...probably even less if you have good monsters in your party. The last fight was really easy, but awfully fun. I had Darnay, his two kids, and a golem. I love the last boss. I'm not even done with this thing yet because I want to take a crack at the bonus dungeon and bonus boss before breaking into DQVI for my first time.

That being said, I thought it would be fun to recap my preferences so far, now that I have played these all recently. So, in order of preference by trilogy.

Erderick / Loto series:
Dragon Warrior II
Dragon Warrior
Dragon Warrior III

Zenithinian series [so far]:
Dragon Quest V: The Hand of the Heavenly Bride
Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen

And, in order of preference overall:

Dragon Warrior II
Dragon Quest V: The Hand of the Heavenly Bride
Dragon Quest IV: Chapters of the Chosen
Dragon Warrior
Dragon Warrior III

Now, to most likely get my butt kicked by a tough bonus boss in DQV before deciding if I really want to try to be victorious with him. Also, I want to see what he looks like...

EDIT: Yeah, that fight did not go well....did not go well at all...

Nice work Share!

I played a lot of VI on flights over the weekend, and it's really picked up now! I'm about 17 hours in now.

So far, my preferences are:

Erdrick:
DW
DWII
DWIII

Zenithia:
DQVI
DQIV
DQV

Overall:
DQVI
DW
DQIV
DQV
DWII
DWIII

I think that second DQVI should be a DQIV? Unless your lists aren't consistent with each other, which seems unlikely. Not trying to edit you - just trying to be helpful.

I'm impressed that DQVI is above DW in the first place. Nice. I have to say I'm enjoying it already and I'm only level 8 or 9 or so...still really early....

If you couldn't tell by that last statement, I bailed on the extra boss in DQV. I will get back to him/her/it later. Yikes. I'll get back to bonus material in DWIII later as well....

Well, I've been playing DQVI for a bit now. I'm level 16 and I'm in this cave....I think I'm supposed to be here, but I'm not certain of that. This game is wide-open, it seems, a lot like the first two were. Where they pretty much just said 'get on it' and you found yourself saying 'sure....okay, on what?' I like that, but it does make for a lengthy and meandering RPG experience.

It's way too soon for me to start making many decisions about how much I like it. I will say that I like it quite a bit so far. No idea how it'll end up comparing with the rest of the series, though. No idea at all....

My DS is M.I.A. right now so I'll have to pause playing DQVI. I'll get back to it again once I have it. So far, I love it. I'm level 26 and wandering aimlessly.

It had been missing for two weeks, but my DS turned up again . My daughter puts stuff in random places and I was beginning to wonder if she'd thrown it away. But, fortunately, it's recovered so I'll get back to this again
