Welcome to the forums and OH MY GOD YES:

SPHINX AND THE CURSED MUMMY!

How could I forget it; easily one of the best and most underappreciated games of its generation and not just on Cube where it kicked the pants of crappy big IP fare like Starfox Adventures.

If anyone hasn't played this then I urge them to seek it out. It's only spoiled by the fact that there is a potential game runing gltich in one of the later levels involving saving at a certain point.

Is it just as good on PS2, or is it going to be one of those games like Beyond Good & Evil that for some reason get better reviews on the GCN version?

The PS2 version has longer load times than the Cube version and is lacking the progressive scan support found in the Cube version.

That's about it really.

OT: Until recently, I didn't know this forum was still around. After VC-reviews
changed to NintendoLife (with a forum as well), I never checked here again
But I lurk on other forums as well, haven't got the time to reply often (after
reading a lot). But as I said, I couldn't resist this thread ... especially because
of the date set in the first post (19th march ).

As for Sphynx, I never played it on another console (I only have a few Nintendo
consoles) but I still think it's a great game. The only thing that could have made
it better was speech (like in Spyro games) ...

This forum is way better than Nintendolife's not just in its slicker design but also for the greater freedom of expression it allows and the more knowledgeable people who post here. VC-forums has morphed into a more general videogame discussion board since the detatchment from VC-reviews and is a great place to discuss any platform, that's why I prefer it.

Now I'm interested in that Sphinx game. Who's the developer?

Alright, I think the end of today will be the end for nominations. Any last minute votes can start coming in now. Here are my final 3 games I'm going to vote for to make 25:
Sonic Adventure 2: Battle
Beyond Good & Evil
Viewtiful Joe

I don't own any of these but I just know these were pretty big Gamecube games so they deserve a small boost in votes.

Eurocom, but don't hold that against it...a LOT of love went into developing this game as is evident from the "Making of" featurette that comes on the disk.

I think its a game that you would really enjoy SKTTR as aside from the main quest there is an enourmous bestiary to fill with the games many monsters (akin ot the museum in Animal crossing) and I know how you love games that give you the opportunity to 100% them.

The "main" game plays similarly to Zelda with you controlling Sphinx in the overworld and the titular mummy's interlocking story filling in for that games "dungeon sections" with some Warioland style gameplay mechanics involving the immortal mummy solving puzzles by sacrificing his unkillable body in a variety of funny ways.

I actually think I'll seek this out again myself as I currently only have the US version which for reasons of Nintendo's own stubboness its no longer possible for me to play on the Wii and I gave my cube to my Dad along with the game.

The one thing I would say is DO allow yourself to get past the games introductory training stage which is very misleading as to the quality of the actual game. I did this the first time I played as I expected it to be shovelware and was blown away the second time I gave it a shot to see what lay behind that deceptivly simple opening.

Got to be one of the best games that nobody played of that generation...really sad as this would have made a great franchise.

Cool, I look out for it! I've seen Sphinx and the Cursed Mummy many times on bargain.
I thought it was some USA-license kiddie-show crap. Now I hope I can find it for a tenner.

EUROCOM is quite good.

I don't know many games developed by them but the two Duke Nukem Games for N64 were
a fantastic port (Duke Nukem 64) and an equally great exclusive (Duke Nukem: ZER0 H0UR).
They also made a Nintendo-published N64 game: The Cruis'n USA-sequel Cruis'n World, a likely Virtual Console candidate.

Exactly my mistake, to be honest I only picked it up in a bundle I won on ebay, boy am I glad I did. Shame on THQ for not doing a better job of marketing this as I recall they released it to no hype against PoP:SoT and BGAE, which considering those games also underperformed didn't even give this one a fighting chance in the market.

Alright, nomination time is over. I'll be putting up a new thread for the voting phase soon. When that thread is up, can a mod please lock this one? Don't need any people putting nominations in when they won't count....
