I am still uncertain if those compilations will actually be released on the Wii. (After all the Art of Fighting Anthology was suppose to be on the Wii but we got the first one on the Virtual Console instead.) Except for KOF 98 Ultimate Match due to its not a straight port of the original KOF 98 game now that can be released since its a remake and not a port. While there was a MS anthology but that was because it came before the NG got on the VC. (Heck there are even rumors that the MS games might come for the VC sometime down the line.)
We must simply remember that technically the PS2 is still alive well compared to the GC and the original X-Box but its still alive. And companies like SNK are still trying to make money off of gamers whom can't afford to get 7th generation systems yet. Granted the Virtual Console's releases are still getting slow and small lately but still. SNK is still releasing compilations on the PS2 (and PSP) because it has no online download game service and its the only 6th generation console thats still considered "active". If SNK is going to go for compilations instead of the Virtual Console then I have a feeling they would have already done so. But to be fair there are games that SNK can regularly release on the Wii like the aforementioned KOF 98 Ultimate, KOF 11 and more. |

I'm guessing they just avoid it so they don't have to deal with the Wii remote. Those compilations will probably be released on the Wii, though. I do not know if SNK is just going to stop with VC releases altogether, in an effort to control negative cashflow. (you all should know why)
Who knows, it's SNK.

I don't think it's that simple. SNK have moved over to Taito X2 now, and a lot of the stuff they're showing on that board is likely beyond the capabilities of the Wii, what with the limitation of texture memory and so on.
SNK will likely keep repeating the same pattern as always, which is to say they'll do little more than upgrade old games for current consoles. Either way, single releases on the VC make financial sense for two reasons: the dearth of optimisation and thus investment required to bring them up to modern standards, and the fact that a lot of gamers, who may not buy compilations, would possibly pay out for single games at a significantly cheaper price. Personally, even were I to buy an AOF compilation, I would only ever play AOF3; the others, as fun as they were in their day, have dated poorly.
