So the big updates are a microphone and a brighter screen (i.e. even faster battery eating)? No thanks. Thankfully, this is a totally inessential upgrade for any previous model PSP owners.

As I said: (I have not bought a PSP yet.) I don't know, is a PSP really worth it when I have a PS3 and a DS.

I personally think there are a lot of great games on the PSP. Since you don't have one yet, it could be a good purchase, depending on how much they're planning to charge for them. With these non-upgrades, I would hope they would make them the same price as the current slim models, and bump the current slim models down a bit.

PSP Slim's will be dirt cheap when the 3000 releases, infact: in the AU, if you buy an LCD TV, for an extra $25 you can pick up a brand new PSP Slim. Should I just get a PSP Slim?

I hope that these new PSP's cause a nice price drop in the PSP slim, then I may finally get one.

If they're as cheap as you say, why not. Evaluate how much you really want a mic and a brighter screen.

IMO, the current PSP's screen on the highest setting is super bright and crisp. I can't imagine it getting much brighter and better looking. Unfortunately, the PSP also eats through its battery life like a battery eating battery eater.

Ebay would fix the battery problem, still I'll wait for the new 3000 to release just to see how much better it is, but hopefully It won't take to long for the PSP 2 to release, then I wouldent have to buy sony's "upgrades".

I'm still yet to get a PSP but they're still too expensive, I'm not paying that much for a handheld, not when there's so much on DS. I'll think about it when it's under £100 new, with a game.

Improvements in technology would surely make up for it, the DS Lite has brighter screens but an even longer battery life. What kind of battery life does the current PSP have?

That's true, I suppose. I don't know the exact specs on battery life. I think the "published" spec is 4 hours on the highest brightness setting? But in practice it's probably more like 4 hours on the lowest brightness with the WiFi turned off.

My DS definitely blows the PSP away in terms of time between charges.

As far as I've heard it's about 2 hours of movie watching in the batteries.

I think the PSP 3000 is NOT a good buy for new PSP users for one thing: no homebrew. Before you (moderators) ban me, hear me out. I DO NOT mean illigeal downloads from other platforms/PSP downloads. I mean that a lot of users create some pretty awesome software for the PSP, like a nicer looking music player, for example. Also, there are quite a lot of user made games, and I'd like to try those out sometime. The PSP 3000 is said to block out those features, so you can't download content. Again, I do not condone downloading illegal content, I just think that Sony should create some kind of filter that doesn't block user created programs, but blocks out illegal ROM's.
