Default Borderlands

Radretrogamer and I just had a pretty sweet Borderlands session. I can see how that game could get a bit repetitive, but I can also see how it would be totally awesome with 4 players with headsets.

We got raepd by a couple big skags and I couldn't revive him in time (mainly because I had no idea how...), but I somehow survived... so I camped out while he ran back to me (I was too scared to go anywhere alone).

Hilarious stuff.

I know a couple of you 360 guys have this game too. What are your thoughts? What classes do you all use?

I'm using a Berserker. I have 5 skill points saved up, too, and I'm trying to think of how to use them.

Just saw that my PC version is available to buy so I will go fetch it later on today. Although I have a big test as well today at school so I won't be able to test it until like 10 pm or so.

Ha, yeah that was alot of fun, sorry for all the running, ive done those quests so many times now ive pretty much mastered the process . i would have met up with you sooner after i got creamed, but i had to make a bottle for the baby.didnt mean to leave you huddled in a corner for so long

just so you know Joyo, the more people playing with you, the harder the enemies are, and i think there are more of them. Badass Skags are no joke, but fire pistols for the win!

oh, and around lvl 20, look forward to Skagzilla

I have a friend raving about this game (will probably buy it this week for the PC) while I'm totally clueless about it. Anything you guys could compare the gameplay with?

Is communication vital to the enjoyment of the game? Would not having headsets break the experience to a large degree?

Never played the game nor payed any attention to it so I have no clue what kind of game it is, gonna check gametrailers later though.

I got one question though, Headsets for the ps3, does anything work or is there any special requirments?

I'm not 100% certain, but I think any bluetooth headset should work.

You should be able to get one for $20, maybe less. In general, anyway. I don't know about you Swedes.

Had borderlands since it's (UK) Release last friday and love it. Cartoony more FPS focussed co-op fallout 3! been playing alot of co-op with the flat mate. He's a soldier and I went for hunter because I Pistols/sniper and his special attack is just awesome! Level 26 at the moment with some pretty *****in' guns:

(can't remember exact name/gun classes)
Pistol: 58 damage 3.2 fire rate
Shotgun: 56 x 12 damage, shock elemental effect
Elephant gun: 256 damage, good for close range headshots
Sniper rifle: 344 damage, only 3 x zoom unfortunately but good enough for me.

Shield: 435

Got a few artefacts (even found spares on the floor a few times) and managed to get all 4 weapon spaces unlocked and bought a couple good class mods (one for co-op one for single player)

Really enjoying this

I would say that it reminds me the most of Diablo 2 but from a First Person Perspective...think a good Hellgate: London placed in a post-apocalyptic world with awesome cartoonish graphics. I strongly recommend people to get Borderlands, especially if you have some friends to play with.

What this game have against itself is that it can hardly be called a PC-port, there are too many console leftovers in the game, most of them can be resolved by changing some configuration files but it shouldn't be necessary really...especially since the PC version was delayed due to "PC optimization".

It's an awesome game but I wouldn't recommend it if you don't have friends to play with, I've run trough the game with two of my friends and it's been one of the best gaming experiences this year, but when playing alone it's a bit boring. You can still run some loot-runs by yourself but it gets pretty boring quick.

Edit for those who have played Borderlands: Old Haven is the best area ever, love it!

Yeah, I love co-op in that game. I'd be happy to join in. But I definitely want to finish Fallout first. I don't think I can leave that game neglected for too long or I'd never finish. Hopefully people are still playing when I'm done.

I found a lovely pistol that has a power of 115 or so, burst fire + recoil reduction, high fire rate, scoped, etc

Also got a decent Shotgun at 56 x 12 power + shock element, 418 power sniper (+200% critical hit damage bonus from gun plus another 100% or so from my characters skill as I'm a hunter), 390 power revolver

+6 team regeneration Hunter MOD equipped
485 Shield (With added 30% health boost)

Level 31 at the moment.

Absolutely love pistols, revolvers, snipers so Hunter was obvious choice for me. Bloodwing as absolutely awesome too way better than scorpio turret IMO. Specially once he's levelled up enough to have + 100% damage, attack 6 targets and equipped with level 3 fire

Not seen any orange weapons yet though =/

Is it only me that have a super-bugged Bloodwing who just flies into walls and gets stuck all the time?

I went for a Sniper/Shotgun combo on my Hunter for some reason, when sniping won't do it I just charge them and unload a magazine of shotgun shells. Have SMG's as a third option which just feels...weak.

Level 44 now and I just can't wait to get into Old Haven again on my second playtrough.

Corrosive element is definately the way to go in old haven. Me and my cousin played some co-op, hes just started, so he was level 1 so we went to old haven, he sat hidden by the vending machines at the start and i tore about the place with bloodwing and my sniper, revolver, shotgun and just leveled him upto level 14 in the space of 30 minutes

Tomorrow we'll start from his side of the game and he can collect some guns that dont say 'level requirement 25' minimum haha.

Hate Corrosive and Immolation, I just can't see their heads to set some sweet headshots when they're burning/melting.

Highest crit so far then? Mine's around 81000

How is the actual combat and gunplay guys?

I've been usually very bored with games with a heavy looting element (Diablo, Diablo 2, Titan's Quest) since I find their actual gameplay to be not very interesting. I'm wondering how fun is this game being for you?

Among other things I'd like to know how MMO like is the setting (enemies just walking around with no purpose or seemingly no reasonable behaviour) and how well does the AI plays.

Thanks

The gameplay is like being in Fallujah... You shoot everything that's not an ally and you shoot it damn dead (in a very typical FPS fashion).

The world is pretty strange for an FPS, but since you mention you play Diablo and it's clones it's pretty similar to that system. You have a central city (there may be more, but I'm not too far in) where you can get: quests, supplies, weapon upgrade stuff, etc. Multiplayer isn't very MMOish at all, it's more like jumping into a Diablo session with some people via battlenet.

The gameplay itself is really fun and makes the loot feel like the icing on the cake compared to Diablo where the loot was the focus while the gameplay would suffer a bit in comparasion (I still rate Diablo 2 as on of the best games ever, but I see what you mean).

There's some gameplay videos at YouTube, I just found this one when searching but there are plenty of others: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mox3OkrBLrI

Just that one's from the PC version which plays really great once you do some minor adjustments to the configurations files, things like removing mouse smoothing and removing the long, unskippable movies that play as soon as you start a new character.

I plan to get it as soon as I get some funds together. Been trying out the PC version at a friend's house and it's very fun.

Of course I'm totally behind the idea of getting a team together (and will gladly join once I have the stuff up and running.)

EDIT: I was confident I had answered to this thread before. In any case, thank you guys for your input on the game

Level 21 Siren so far, still going strong!

Mainly using those futuristic guns (not the revolvers) and shotguns, but I also dabble in snipers and those small machine guns from time to time.

My weapons sucks though since I mostly played solo.

**** son!

You know what I think we should do? We should use this thread to get 4 people together and set a firm date/time when we can all meet. Then we should all start fresh characters and take a good co-op runthrough that way. That would be fun!

Sounds good. I have a feeling Turai will want to play a Siren. I guess I'll reboot my berserker for the purposes of this little gang. Now we just need to find a... whatever that other class is. Doesn't Blondie Bust have this game?

it would be cool to have the 4 classes in the party, but you guys can be whatever you want, more importantly i would like a static party.

so,.. so far its me, Turai and Joyo for sure?

EDIT: alright i was playing around with the Skill Tree and im set with my points up to lvl 50.

Infantry - 5 points (Impact)
Support - 20 points (Stockpile, Barrage, Deploy, Supply Drop)
Medic - 20 points (Aid Station, Cauterize, Revive, Stat)

if any of you want to mess with the Skill Tree http://www.borderlandsthegame.com/home.html check it out.

I assume by static party you mean a group of characters we only use during our team sessions? That would be fine with me. I might only ever play this game with this group.

As for builds, I don't know the skill tree very well since I haven't played very far, so I'll probably just wing it. I'd be looking at a hard tank build though.

EDIT: I messed with the skill tree. I wanted to take all berserk and health/shield/tank bonuses. There was one skill I sorely regret not being able to take (the one that reduces damage from explosions) because I can't afford to get the prereqs.

Here's what I'm looking at:

Brawler: Iron Fist (+30% Melee Damage), Endless Rage (+50% Berserk Duration), Short Fuse (Cooldown -30 sec.), Blood Sport (+10% HP on Berserk Kill).

Tank: Hardened (+60% Max HP), Safeguard (+40% Shield), Juggernaut (+50% Dam. Res.), Diehard (+150% HP Revive Bonus, +100% Revive Time), Unbreakable (+15% Shield Regen on Depletion).

I'll basically just berserk, charge, tank, regen, repeat.

OK guys, should we take another stab at this? If everyone who was previously interested is still down, we could have a legitimate 4-player team now.

Jogurt the Yogurt
Radretrogamer
Turai

Bades, do you have this game or do you think you'd be interested in getting it?

How about you, blunderbuss?

Is there anyone else out there who's keen on getting in on a static party with us? Jellybeans? Kiwi?
