| I am pretty sure that opening up or modifying a company's product will void warranty, they do that with everything from Cars (if you change to flowmaster mufflers, VOIDED!!!) to appliances... I am pretty darn sure Sony's the same! I don't see the point in swapping a HDD unless yours is the 40 gb one or somethin, and like I said, You can use USB for a external HDD, hell, you could get an usb hub and stack up 1tb hard drives! and it only gets 10 seconds to install. I still have a $hitload of memory on my ps3 and haven't even found a need to even turn on the HDD except to make a back up. If you still want to put in a bigger HDD (totally unnecessary its like buying a crate of toothpaste instead of a tube, you'll use all of it... eventually...)I can tell ya this, don't reuse those screws on the HDD and you also will need to use nonmagnetic screws and screwdrivier... GOOD LUCK!

| I don't think there is too much reason to install Linux on a PS3 other than to say "look what I made my PS3 do!" for awhile whenever your friends come over.

| yeah I find a computer better to use for that kind of stuff IF I KNEW how to! I store my pixs onto hard drive then look at them thru ps3 with my 40 inch lcd tv. its awesome if you haven't tried that! can see pictures much clearer! anyway, its your call, It's possible but not really necessary. why fix something that's not broken? I am willing to bet there'd be unforeseen problems.

| As far as i am aware, changing the hdd DOES NOT void warranty or anything like that. There is nothing in any of the manuals etc included in the box and they have made it extremely easy to change it. I have done so to allow the storage of movies and music and i know loads of people who have done so for PlayTV storage. Frankly, if they didn't want you to do it they would not have put a sticker on it telling you were it is and put a big blue screw on the caddy. Go for it if you feel you need it, made my life much simpler. Just BACK UP EVERYTHING FIRST, on another drive :P |

| i upgraded my 60gig to 350gigs. its very simple to do. the only thing you have to worry about is stripping the screw in the process, which i almost did. your warrenty isnt voided by swapping HDDs but if i were you i would call sony to be sure if all compatable HDDs are safe, warrenty or other wise, there might be exceptions. 100 of my 350gigs are filled, and i download alot! i definatly consider this a wise purchace for the DL junkie. |

| It does not void your warrenty, there is no seal preventing you from installing the harddrive. Also if you're sceptical of me (shame!) http://playstation.custhelp.com/cgi-...i=&p_topview=1 There's the official answer
