Post LittleBigPlanet 2 confirmed!

Will there be a LittleBigPlanet 2? Well according to the BBC yes! In an interview with Alex Evans, co-founder of Media Molecule, he said;
“Even before the game had hit the shops, the team [were] already at work on a sequel.”
To be honest it’s not a huge surprise considering the huge success of Little Big Planet, [...]

This game shouldn't need a full sequel. The whole point was for it to carry on for years from the content the users crafted themselves for everybody else to play. How do you justify making a whole "new" experience so soon. Keep these ideas relegated to downloadable packs.

If it took on a different genre it could be pretty cool.
This may be the game that makes me keep my PS3

Yeah, I guess the viability of a sequel depends on what kind of new ideas they can implement into the game. If it's just the same platforming and some tweaks to the game/creation engine, then it seems a little opportunistic...

I expect it'd be a spin-off of some sort. I hope it's not just an updated sequel, it wouldn't make sense because the original could go on as long as the PS3's lifespan with user content (or longer if it stays online), to have a sequel in this generation would defeat the whole point.

This quote from the same interview makes me think they might mean a spin-off game and not an update.
Quote:
“LittleBigPlanet has big potential. Right now it is just a game but the firm, with Sony, are in talks to turn it into a franchise that could mean spin offs including comics, cartoons, and action figures as well as a publishing platform itself for other brands’ content.”

I wasn't too interested in the first, and I doubt I'll be all that interested in a second.

Well it's good to see a sequel, but I really wasn't expecting it. I hope it doesn't come out for a good 4 years or so. Like Spore said, this defeats it's purpose.

Although I am incredible interested to see what they will do for the second one. If it's just more story with some updates, they could easily turn it into DLC.

I'm surprised to see this get a sequel as well. The first game was supposed to have a long lifespan due to the user-created content. I imagine the sequel would have to make some big changes to the formula, otherwise it would feel pretty much the same.

I don't think Little Big Planet 2 will sound right but it is good to have a sequel in my opinion.

And a year and a half later.... YEAAH LittleBigPlanet 2!

The updates sounds pretty good, as a level creator myself I'm really interested to see what I come up with using the sackbots, hookshot, and everything else. I always like making little adventure levels, so this should be fun.

It comes out on the 19th does it not? In NA at least.

Yeah they have done a lot more with it then I had originally thought. I will probably end up picking this up as well now. I'll wait a little bit and allow the community to create some amazing levels which shouldn't take too long. I not too much of a creator, I have a lot of ideas, I suck at putting them into the game.

Sounds like this game will have an easier time of making your ideas into relality. Better menus, easier interphase, complex creations can be put onto the smallest little chip and then expanded into the biggest thing. The thing I'm more excited for is the sackbots. That's what the first one was missing, smart allies/enemies.

I played around in the beta for a little while, though not as much as I would have wanted. It seems they have added so much more, it was a little overwhelming at first. Of course when I have my own copy I can go through the tutorials at my own pace. I'll have to play through LittleBigPlanet: Sackboy's Prehistoric Moves until I pick up LBP2.

Mickey, the first Little Big Planet is a very good platform game (especially with the stages made by Media Molecule, the developer).

Here's a funny music video that shows one of the Media Molecule-created levels, "Victoria's Lab". The song is from the game - you hear it in the 'Brainy Cakes', 'Currant Affairs' and 'Kling Klong' sections of the level:
