Default Plastic coating on the Wii?

Just wondering if any of you have noticed the plastic coating on the Wii console itself? Is it safe to remove?

Virtual Console question: Which VC game has held up the best after all these years? My pick is Super Mario Bros. 3

You should have put this thread somewhere else considering the main point of it doesn't relate to the VC at all. It is nice that you spent two seconds to come up with a question to make the thread somewhat relevant though. Anyway, if by plastic coating you mean the actual shell holding the components, yeah, you can take it off and put it back together but unless you know what you are doing it isn't advised. Also, I only just realized the tiny ATi sticker on the Wii.

Anyway, game that has held up best I think is Super Mario World. Well, except for the hilariously named secret stages. GNARLY!

I disliked those stages when the game was new. They remind me of watered down Mario ROMhacks, except not the cool kind.

I'd venture Battle Lode Runner or Wario's Woods. Both games new to me, both games that have given me loads of play. I might lean toward WW, for having an in-built tutorial. BLR is great, but being able to jump right into play requires some knowledge of 'game logic.'

Why would you want to remove the plastic shell? That's way beyond me.

And I think Super Metroid has held up the best.

It doesn't sound like he's talking about the plastic shell (because, yeah, that would just be crazy). It sounds like his Wii came with a thin plastic peel-off film or something. I could be wrong in doubting this guy's craziness though. :P

My microwave came with one of those (thin plastic peel-off film...thingies). I was supposed to remove it before using the appliance, but never noticed that I was supposed to until the other day (I've had it for several years now).

It's kind of a bizarre thing. I've never encountered it on any other appliance/electronic device.

I suppose I should have considered the people I was asking this to. Yes Jogurt you are right, the Wii console itself has a thin plastic film on it, I just was wondering if it was safe to remove.

I'd venture a "yes, it's safe", especially since most other Wiis don't have that plastic film. They're usually on there to protect them from scratching during shipping/storage or whatever, and most appliances etc. will say you should remove them before using. Unless there's a reason you'd want to keep it on there, I'd say take it off.
