Default Master List of FREE games

This is a list of freeware games that can be found on the Internet.
Post any title you know of, (possibly something worthwhile, we simply can't list every free game ever made), I'll try to keep this list updated like other 'collective threads' in these forums.

As for others threads, this discussion may rapidly become filled with lots of posts, so I ask anyone to NEVER EDIT their messages: I'll be checking only new posts, so if you have something to add, make sure I can notice it.

Please avoid PMing me about updating the list. I'm asking you to PM me about this discussion only if you have personal questions (say: normal PM stuff) or minor corrections to something already in the list.
Please, don't send me PMs only saying "CoolestFlashGame is really good, will you add it?", because probably I will not.

Also note the format I'm using (any suggestion to improve reading is welcome), and remember to provide these infos when posting about a game:
Name, URL, Genre, System requirements.

Titles are listed alphabetically, this means the positions will change with time (or at least that's how I'm imagining it).

[Update]
Ok, I decided to change the requirements for the list. I'm adding a section dedicated to commercial games that are now free.
I personally don't see the need to advertise these games, but since I can't change the title in "Master List of independent free games", I have to accept defeat.

Now, the lists:

Good idea for a thread. I'll sticky this.

It might also be worth including good games that can be played via the Wii Browser, either here, or as a separate thread.

Seiklus is an adventure game so you know

Edit : Heres some games i know :

Hovertank 3D (Action) http://www.yoyogames.com/games/show/22 (Windows)
Jumper 2 (Platformer) http://www.yoyogames.com/games/show/91 (Windows)
Jumper Redux (Platformer) http://www.helixgamesinc.com/games/JumperRedux.zip (Windows)
Dim (Platformer) http://www.helixgamesinc.com/games/Dim.zip (Windows)
Sandbox Of God (Strategy/Simulation) http://www.yoyogames.com/games/show/39 (Windows)

And a free tool for making games
Game Maker http://www.yoyogames.com/make (Windows)
Game Maker Lite is free forever. There is no trial but it can be upgraded to the pro edition. Pro allows for 3D games, Online Multiplayer, Particles and much more. It also removes the add during the loading of games. Its simple to use and uses its own code. Or for the inexperienced there is a simple drag and drop feature. However for the more advanced features of game maker it will be better to learn code.

P.S Sorry i wasnt sure how to make text into links. Thats the best i could do.

Thanks, from office I can't check a lot of sites, and I was waiting to come back home to know what to write there.

See, I didn't want to make a small version of HOTU.
I'd like to give small but genious developers some more visibility.

Anyway, I'll be considering that, let's see how this evolve.

Hey guys!
I don't believe you never looked for (and found) a free game on the Internet.
So, post links, do not just hope fot others to do the dirty job for you!
What the hell 'being a community' means?

: P

Yeah I was a bit joking, don't take it too seriously but, hell, I feel you're being lazy anyway: I know you love games, and you love free stuff!
Let's combine the two things!

This post in reality was to point out that I noticed that Astro Empires isn't free at all!
So I decided to delete it from the list, I'm afraid BlueMoon is the only one interested here, since no one posted in her dedicated thread.

Those interested gather there, hope you don't get offended BlueMoon.

Your message in your thread isn't a "list".

I know that it was probably your intention, but that thread wasn't practical.
If you read my latest messages there, you'll see why I chose to make a more useable list.

I started from there anyway, all the titles listed in that thread have been also copied here. But really, that thread wasn't the best place to keep on posting stuff.
That's it. It's just a matter of keeping stuff organized.

Don't get offended and participate!

The B-Games competition at the independent gaming source have just finished. All these games are meant to look silly, have dumb story lines, be funny, and general encompass everything that makes us laugh at B-Movies. Remember, just because it is called a B-Game doesn't mean it sucks! This stuff is hilarious.

http://forums.tigsource.com/index.php?topic=523.0

They have a link to download games seperately are a pack of all of them. I reccomend getting the big pack so that you play every game.

Could you please list the games that you think are valuable in the way I described in my first post?
I'm without a working PC, the only one I can use is my office machine, but I can't access game sites, so I can't even see how many games are listed there, not talking about trying to play them....

Thanks, I'd like to check myself but I simpli can't.

Please, again, would you get me the info about what you post here? I needed to search on Wikipedia to understand what Runescape is, and how it works (like saying that it is a Java application that runs on several systems).

Anyway, it doesn't look like what I call a free game. To access the full options in the game you have to pay a monthly registration.

Runescape was designed for non-members in the first place.
I am a non-member and for me the game is free. It's playable, you can get every item, and you can roam almost everywhere around the world.

And you have your non-member-story and your non-member-quests.

My point is, the free non-member-game of Runescape has more depth than most of the so called "free games" on the list above.

Plus, you don't need to download anything and it works on every pc/mac.

Runescape is free. You just get a handful of extras if you're paying for being a member.

It's just the fact that Rune Scape is even duller than most other MMORPGS out there. Now maybe it is just that I believe (I know) that all MMORPGS are a waste of one's time but this one brings home the gold in terms of sheer boringness. But if running around cutting trees down for wood and watching your character fight by itself is fun for people...

Anyway:

Splume: A neat puzzle game where you fire blobs of varying colors from a center point. Align three of the same color to destroy them. A lot of games utililze this formula but Splume uses physics to enhance the expierience and create cool puzzles that aren't possible with other games of the same genre.

Care to point out an even more boring, more poorly made, MMORPG from the pile? I think it's time to shut the light on this argument though.

Also, De Blob. This one is being made into a Wii game soon. You are a blob who rolls around a city coloring everything in your path. You can absorb colored people (no comments on why that could possibly sound racist please) and go around town collecting various thing, painting certain landmarks... Fun stuff.

I'm also assuming that for De Blob, there isn't a website to be linked (anyway, what's the correct name of this game?).
If it's possible avoid linking to archives and executables, please.
A webpage may also contain additional information on the game, which is always a good thing.

Thanks everyone. More free-games hunting, come on!

A link to the English traslation of the De Blob main webpage.
The minimum system requirements for a nice framerate are about a 2ghz processor and 512mb RAM.

A couple more games. Recently released for free was an episode from season 1 of Sam and Max titled Abe Lincoln Must Die! It is the fourth episode in the season and is now free. If you are familiar with the series good for you. It is a fun point and click adventure with hilarious dialog. Prepare for season 2 people!

I cant believe i forgot this game. I only remembered it after going into a topic in the Virtual Console Discussion board.

DUCK DOOM DELUXE

You all know the classic Duck Hunt. But did you ever think of Doom and Duck Hunt getting mixed together.. No. Well this game shows that both games can work well together. This game is awesome. It mixes all the guns and the HUD of Doom with the game duck hunt. It has several difficulty levels and good graphics. And its very addicting.

Download & Mirrors (Some may be down):

The game was also featured on a program called G4 : Attack Of The Show.

Enjoy

That looks simply marvelous. Speaking of Doom...

Now that Doom is free! Enjoy.

If that doesn't quench your old school FPS thirst, Bungie released the whole Marathon Trilogy for free. Have fun.

Default First Person Shooters

I don't know why, but I got interested in playing a couple of FPS online. I suck at FPS, and the last thing you wanna do when you suck at a game is going against crazy bloodthirsty human challengers...and FPS players are pure evil.
Anyway I'm having lot of fun so, I'm adding 3 titles to the list.

Oh yes, these games runs on all current OSs (Win, MacOSX, *nix)

Urban Terror
Latest version is 4.1 has just been released; this is a tactical shooter. Bots are supported but probably not working so good, I didn't find any direct way to implement them. This is also the reason why I finally enjoyed the online fragging: to actually play the game the only way was to challenge other humans over the net...so I did.
This game is really addictive; you're getting around always watching in all directions, all the windows, behind every corner, if you walk straight, looking in front of you, you're already dead...a really tense experience.

Nexuiz
This is a game intended to bring the FPS gameplay back to the roots.
Fast action in a typcal fantasy/sci-fi setting, balanced weapons, a bunch of power-ups. Think of Quake3Arena and Unreal Tournament. Nexuiz belongs to this category of Deathmatch FPSs.
Bots are well supported, and there is also a Campaign, that is nothing more than a single player mode.

Sauerbraten
Another old-school FPS. This is a project that has a lot of visibility and is highly rated among the FPS community.
I couldn't try it (MacOSX client has to be compiled, and I still have to install xcode...gigabytes just to have a "make"...), but screenshots and movies on the internet scream the visuals of this game are awesome.
Single player mode seems to be more like a story with levels instead of deathmatches against bots, but I DID NOT try it, I only saw short movies of it and got this impression.

Of course all these games provide several game modes, including team based ones.
In particular Urban Terror, many server with a lot players are those playing Team-based games, being it a tactical shooter teamplay is highly rewarding.

If you decide to try them, you may find me on these servers (as "neuzd", of course):
UrT: ioURBAN TERROR 4.1 (FFA) www.complex-microcosm.com. FFA means Free For All and it is the classic Deathmatch, click on the link to see the status of the server and details of current game, yes this means you can check from the web if I'm playing and how much I suck. [EDIT: this site has been shut down, I don't know why, they had just upgraded their pages with very detailed infos. They were running good and I always had low ping ):]
Nexuiz: DCC's Beinners Only Delight DM - a server for beginners, I also managed to win one game.

The games motto is "Cooperate with one's self". It is in the browser and only uses the mouse. Have fun.

This hasn't been updated in awhile but might as well add some Command And Conquer games. Command & Conquer Classic | Command & Conquer EDIT: That link may not work for all. I can't get my connection to stay stable today so I am having problems downloading. Another forum was able to download it though.

Also the list of free stuff on steam which can be found here. Free Steam games list - Steam Users' Forums

I think I explained that this list wasn't intended for previously commercial games, but to give visibility to indie developers who manage to make worthy titles.

I didn't update the list for 2 reasons. The first is pretty much obvious, no one posts here, while the second is about me not adding free games on my own: that's because I've had the idea of making this thread by watching similar threads on other forums, and if I was the only one posting here, this thread would be just a mere copy of those I saw somewhere else.

I think people are just lazy.
Anyway I'm adding 3 personal favorites of mine that I'm playing a lot in this period: Infectonator, Canabalt and Robot Unicorn Attack.
Oh and why not, Super Mario Bros. Crossover, too, even if I didn't play it, but I love the crazy developer (Jay) that's behind this project.

Check the first post for the links.

[EDIT]
Alright...I forgot that I added a section for games that have gone freeware, still I don't like the idea.

Sorry I didn't mean to say hasn't been updated, I meant to say hasn't been active.

You don't really need to be sorry for anything.
I was just saying my motivations, it wasn't an "excuse".
