| Sumo Brother | I created this threadso we know what computer systems you all have including system specs Here's my 3 Garage Sale Bargains all $5 each. 1.HP Pavilion @566MHz 256MB Ram upgraded from 160MB but its labe sujest it had 64MB to start of with . Onboard graphics with no slot for upgrades . DVD burner from a Dead Computer found around the corner . 2 Harddrives 10GB it came with & a 80GB salvaged from a dead Set Top Box. Network card so once i get a cable i shall use it to browse the web . Win 98 SE as its OS . its possibly be a 10 yeal old system but it still works . It also have bonus Personal Info for which i kindly deleted . 2.macintosh Performa 5400 Directors Edition . 180MHz CPU 56MB RAM plus as it is a Directors edition is black & it also have a TV card & a Video In card . editbroke down couldn't fix so now I dont have it anymore. 3.Toshiba Satalite . Its an old beast & i haven't figured out much of its specs . 50MHz CPU it has 8MB RAM plus its so old that it doesn't have a CD Drive . Currently im tring to figure out on transferring files between the it & the desktop via parallel cable so i can use it as a phto frame . 4.Amiga 500 7.05 MHz proccessor 1MB RAM Amiga OS 1.3 comes with a 1084 PAL monitor & an after market external floppy drive plus Gen Lock 5.Commodore 64C CPU 0.985 64KB of RAM SID 6581 sound chip Also came with a 1541 & 1571 floppy drives All found on the side of the road ready to be picked up as Hard Rubbish just needs a video lead. 6.Acer Aspire B300 Window 98 second edition Intel Pentium 4 1.8 GHz 384MB of RAM onboard graphics but has a slot for an AGP card 20GB HDD but i might swap that with pavi's(no1 on this list) 80 GB hddI let Pavi have the 20GB. It was $5 for spare parts at a garage sale for the fact it was not turning on but the problem was the power button was stuck so Dad & i together freed the stuck piece & just let it hand loose. IT also had Win XP installed but but the looks of it when we plug the Harddrive into another computer & it looks like they tried to remove personal details before selling but during the process broke the OS installation. It,s a shame really maybe the next Garage sale would sell XP for $5 maybe even windows 7 Custom build CPU Intil core duo 2.33GHZ 2GB of RAM Nvidia Geforce 8400 GS 300GB HDD Windows 7 home premium secondhand for $25 Last edited by kawaiipikachu; 6 Days Ago at 04:46 AM. | Nice idea with the garage sale bargains. I've quite many times thought of buying a cheap bargain retro computer with WIN98 or something for retro PC games. |

| Casual gamer since 1978 | Fun thread. This is what is actually still in my room (working or not): Apple iMac Intel Core [email protected] MacOSX 10.5.8 (Leopard) / Windows XP 21" screen 1 GB ram HDD 250GB (+500 GB ext.) ATI Radeon Mobility HD2600 Apple iBook PPC G4@800 MHz MacOSX 10.3 (Panther) 12" screen 256 MB ram HDD (formerly) 30GB (currently not working: missing HDD) Apple iBook PPC G3@366 MHz MacOS 8.6 12" screen 160 MB ram (originally 32MB) HDD 3.2 GB Amiga 1200 Motorola [email protected] MHz AGA chipset 2MB ram (or maybe even 4? I recall I caould have upgraded it) HDD...can't remember the size, though it seems not to work anymore. Commodore 64 MOS Technology 6510/[email protected] Commodore 1541 FDD Commodore 1530 Datassette PC Compatible AMD Athlon@1GHz Windows 98 288 (I guess) MB ram The graphic card is an NVidia GeForce5 I think. Never really exploited: it was an AGP, but my motherboard had a 33MHZ bus. It could probably have better performaces in the order of 1 to 4.... - This machine has some problems: it used to shut itself down with no apparent reason (my idea is that some vent may have failed and the shutdown is a security measure...yes, I never checked) * * * * * * * * * About past machines I had, I recall with affection my first ever PC ([email protected]/10MHz + CGA) and the one from the '90s when gaming on PC was starting to kick in (486@100MHz). I don't remember what I did of them.

| They probably won't. Typically, hardware only goes down a little bit in price before being completely phased out for new technology. Your best bet is to wait for the next family of Intel processors and buy something mid-range that would have similar performance to today's i7's but for a much cheaper price than they are being sold at today. Do note also, that an i7 also requires a compatible motherboard, and it is useless for gaming without a comparably powerful graphics card.
