Default Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door Discussion Thread

I know there's an existing thread on this game, but that was based on someone who was looking for a copy of it, so I decided to open a discussion.

I've just finished Paper Mario and I'm currently planning on starting The Thousand Year Door tonight, depending on how things go.

A few discussion starters...
- Is it as good as the original in your opinion?
- How long did it take you to finish?
- Did it exceed/go below your expectations?

Just one thing guys, no open major spoilers please. There are still people who haven't played it and might do soon after playing SPM or the original game and don't want it spoiled. Put them in white text so they can't be read without highlighting.

- Is it as good as the original in your opinion?

No. Paper Mario 64 is the best. The Thousand-Year Door is more of the same.
You knew what to expect gameplay-wise, but Paper Mario 64 was fresh air in RPG gaming.
It's just the curse of being sequel.
All in all the Paper Mario series is still a very fun experience.

- How long did it take you to finish?

Both of them 100% complete in 50-60h. (Yes, all the badges, all recipes, all stats maxed out)

And Super Paper Mario beaten in 26h, but not finished completely yet.

- Did it exceed/go below your expectations?

I didn't expect anything from Paper Mario.
When it was in development, it was called Super Mario RPG 2 and I knew it had a paper-like graphic style and Mario in it.
I really wanted that game because it looked so cool and I got it the first day when it came out here in EU.

Naturally, I bought Paper Mario for Gamecube as well.
It was excellent, just like Paper Mario 64. Once again it was often hilarious and presented in a unique and fun way, but gameplay offered little new.

Super Paper Mario is something different..... I can't say if it's better than Paper Mario 2 and I wouldn't.
All the Paper Mario's are great!

I wouldn't want to think too long about it, giving Paper Mario 95% and Paper Mario TTYD 90%... No, every game had it's own moments.

Yea!! For me it's 3 x 5 Stars. I'm only happy with all 3 together.

Great game so far, it's looking to be just as good as the original. I've just gotten out of Rogueport, I used the closest save to the pipe you come up into Chapter 1 in.
I'll try to complete Chapter 1 by tonight, I'm really trying not to slug along like I did with Paper Mario XD

I picked it up a few months ago and just recently started playing it. I'm in Chapter 4 as of last night and have been having a blast playing it. My wife helps out by suggesting things, and playing a little as well. It's the first of the Paper Mario games I've ever played and am quite impressed.

I love the RPG elements, the puzzle elements, the combat, etc.

Once I knock this one out I might pick up the N64 version of VC (that way I don't have to pull my N64 out of the closet..hehe).

So far I'm about 19 hours into the game @ Chapter 4.

Wow, so it's not just me racking up a big play time. (8 hours @ chapter 2)
I spent loads of time looking around Rogueport and solving troubles.

This is also harder for me, I actually died on the Dragon twice while I didn't die once on the original game.

It's pretty hard to compare and give an overall favourite at this point, I think I was enjoying the original more than this at 8 hours but it was all new back then. This is still really fun, I like the way it keeps a lot of things from the N64 game.

One question, how many partners are given away on the boxart? Koops and Goombella are on it, but is it just them? The Yoshi is the only other one I can see being one, the ghost woman looks too big.
Don't give names, just say how many more are given away.

If I really put my mind to it I could probably complete it in a couple of weeks, I'm just not like that with games anymore. This'll probably keep me going until the end of October/ Mid November now!

Anyway, if you think playing games are a waste of time you may as well call everything else in the world that's fun a waste of time and sit in a dark room doing nothing for the rest of your life!

Wow that's pretty honest. But no I don't really think it's a waste of time, just there's other important things in life. But how many times have you given up things beacuse you were playing video games? Well my words are pointless I play games no matter what and I'm trying to get back on to thousand year door but I have other games that just cant wait.
