| ![]() Shmup'ing its way onto the North American Virtual Console The North American shoot-em-up crowd may have looked at the Japanese Virtual Console with some envy the past few months for having the Neo Geo CD release Ironclad ready and willing, but the jealous glare will hopefully soon diminish as the Entertainment Software Rating Board has put their stamp on it. The Neo Geo game has been rated Everyone 10+ for fantasy violence and mild language. ESRB, would you care to explain? This is a side-scrolling shooter in which players control a small aircraft that battles enemies in an alternate 1920s setting. Players use flame-guns, missiles, lasers, and rockets to destroy an assortment of small spaceships and robotic creatures. As players manoeuvre and attack in the foreground, images of houses burning, buildings in ruins may appear in the background. The laser fire is loud and constant, and enemies burst into fiery explosions amid the frenetic combat. Text-based dialogue includes the phrases "[W]e come in to have some gore," "cheerful torture brothers," and "killin' is such a bore." The word damn also appears in the text.

| Glad to see this getting released. The only thing putting me of getting the VC version is if this gets released on a Wii collection. Otherwise I will get this as soon as it is released. |

| What is Ironclad?...Besides the obvious. How does it play? If nothing else, this will be notable for being one of the 3 or so games on VC on the Neo Geo that isn't in a compilation. |

| It's confirmed as coming to Europe's next hanabi festival. It will be interesting to see whether we get the 60hz original or some sort of downgraded Sega style effort. I'd consider getting the former but not the latter.

| TG-16 runs in both 50hz and 60hz. Neo-Geo is 50hz only. |

No, NEO GEO games on VC are 50hz bordered squashfests. All TG16 versions are the original NTSC versions as the console never made it to PAL territories. However as we've not yet had a Neo Geo import release its impossible to tell whether we'll get the NTSC version or some gimped version crammed through a 50hz outputting emulator ala Sega.

| Just tried it - despite getting a message prior to downloading it that this runs a 60Hz the image has borders top and bottom. Maybe the original was like this? There are occasions when the frame rate suffers - usually when large boss-style enemies explode. It doesn't feel all that slick to play - early days though. |

| This is actually the canceled MVS/AES version NOT the Neo Geo CD version. I still might get this when it comes out in NA, but I am too used to the CD version music. Not sure if this is 60hz/50hz, although I am suspicious this might be 50hz, after seeing a VC review on youtube of this (the game had borders). Empersise the words "might be 50hz". Confused? I am too. Last edited by slangman; 13th March 2010 at 11:06 AM. |

| Wii is set to 60Hz (just checked!!) Feels a bit shoddy overall though the game has a very interesting look to it. The pre-download confirm screen before final purchase warns it runs in 60Hz - I might switch my Wii to 50Hz and see what happens... |

| Various complaints about this on Nintendolife's review page: http://www.nintendolife.com/news/201...#comment436517 Oh, Nintendo, must I report you to trading standards AGAIN? Erroneous advertising would indicate that I must. Davy, please try running the game at 50hz and tell me how you get on.

| Tried playing this with 50Hz and 60Hz set in the Wii setup - don't notice any difference - the borders are the same size at any rate. I have sent an email to the link that was recommended the referred review. Its a shame as the game is good - it has a nice variation on the R-Type force orb and I like the look of it. It gets a bit jerky when things get busiy sometime (not game breaking though) but its hard to say if that is the emu or if the original was like that. | In a further update I've just checked the Wii shop and all Sega's downgraded Hanabi titles are stating "this game runs in 60hz" which is at best incorrect and at worst an outright lie and misselling of a product. Can anyone who downloaded just double check that there hasn't been some magic update fix from Sega on their hanabi games before Trading Standards get contacted for the second time in a month about Nintendo. SKTTR, maybe you can tell me if this message also appears on the German Wii shop. You have to go to the screen where you are about to buy the game (one step from final confirmation) to see it.

| I emailed a complaint to Nintendo's support desk about this and got a response a few days ago. They told me that they have removed the "plays at 60Hz" message and say they can't comment on the quality of the product as that is down to the publisher (D4E games in this instance). VC and WiiWare is non-refundable (in the terms and conds of using the online services) but they took my Wii serial number and said Nintendo Europe might do something about it. Will be interesting to see what happens. It would be nice if they do something for me. I'll also send a complaint to D4E if I can. |

The information about each title is supplied by the publisher , not Nintendo. Still you would think some basic checks would be in place. | |
