Betagam7 rejoice!

As you might expect the emulation is top notch on the Virtual Console and runs in smooth 60Hz (480i/480p).

Woohoo! Glad this game finally came out somewhere. While I'm not keen on the price, I still might pick it up once it comes to NA, since I absolutely love this game!(Heck, I just plain love the Shinobi series! Shinobi FTW!!!)

As its an arcade game I wouldn't have expected anything else! Sadly this isn't a sign of Sega changing tack with its console releases but its good to see NL finally mentioning this in its reviews. To be fair Damo is starting to listen and accept that people might care about the issue to the point that he's asked me to write a talking point for them on the whole 60hz issue which I really should get around to doing after a hectic last month didn't allowed me to.

I have the game on Xbox360 anyway as part of the Megadrive Collection.

Glad Sega put up this arcade version and not the Master System version. I might consider getting this some time in the future.

Why? I always heard the Master System version was pretty good. Not to say that this version isn't preferable, but personally, I'd like to see both of them on the VC, especially the Master System version, which I have no alternative way of playing outside of the actual cart.

I guess Slangman only wants one VC version of the game and would prefer the best one. Realistically I'd think this would be most people's view unless they really love collecting alternate versions of a particular game.

Except in this case the different versions are completely different games, like the NES and Arcade versions of Ninja Gaiden.

Nostalgia can make a particular version more attractive to a player as well. Not to mention features that may be present on a particular version and not on others. Availability of other options doesn't hurt and "best" is a subjective measurement best decided by each player based on what he or she is looking for.

I'm definitely of the camp that thinks every feasibly releasable version of a game should find its way to VC at some point.

Me too, most notably the original NTSC releases to PAL regions

Are you sure? This version looks pretty much like an arcade port to me:

Was there another version because I don't see the drastic difference between this and the Arcade that the 2 Ninja gaiden's have?

...I guess the Ninja Gaiden comparison was a bit off, but from the Wiki, it does change a lot of the gameplay. Not sure if it changes the levels or not.

As long as we don't get 2 versions of a crappy game (e.g. Urban Champion), I'm fine.

I guess I didn't explain myself. I would rather have this version, because for some reason I prefer arcade versions over console conversions (unless it's a very near perfect conversion). Although to be fair, the Master System version does add a couple of stuff to the mix.

It's worth noting that sometimes the console version can actually be better though, especially as many arcade games are designed to be coin guzzlers wheras the home ports are a little "fairer".
Not sure if that applies to Shinobi or not.

I'm with Jogurt, I want EVERY version of every game that can possibly come out to come out. Also Betagamn, I'm glad to see NintendoLife gave you the opportunity to write a talking points article on the 50/60hz issue. I think it will open up a lot of peoples' eyes, and I look forward to reading it!

For me, this first Shinobi Arcade is the best on series.

( I have Shadow Dancer and Shinobi III. )
