I've only played Lords of Thunder and Soldier Blade (which are both often lots of people's top picks)

I love Soldier Blade, and not only do I like it more it costs 200 points less, and takes 200+ blocks less of space.

Lords of Thunder and Star Parodier are pretty much tied as far as I'm concerned. Hell, they're two of the best shooters period.

Sapphire http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G39MQSo0mJk

The PC Engine had a lot of good shmups, but no truly great ones IMO. None of them could stand up to UN Squadron, Thunderforce, and the like.

lol, it's great and all, but it's not as good as UN Squadron... or MUSHA. It's probably better or as good as the Thunderforce games.

BTW, that one Twin Bee game.

I can't say, since I haven't played any of those. However, With games like Lords of Thunder, Star Parodier, R-Type, Sapphire, the Soldier series, Twinbee, and many others, I think it would be incredibly difficult for anyone to say that the TurboGrafx didn't any great shooters.

Cho Aniki alone is literally better than UN Squadron and the Thunderforce series combined.

True, stupid thing of me to say. I should say that while the TG16 had the most great shooters, the few that the SNES and the Genny had trumped most of the TG16 shmups (well, the ones of MUSHA/Lightening Force quality).

No, UN Squadron is simply better than any TG16 shmup.

If you ask me, I'd say that both the Genesis and the TG-16 had equally steller line-ups of shooters, and I look forward to shmups from either console.

But that's just me.

I haven't downloaded Soldier Blade as of yet because I've become too addicted to Lords of Thunder. This game simply rocks!

In the present, I have four shooters for TG-16: Gate of Thunder, Soldier Blade, GalagaŽ90 and Gradius II: Gofer no Yabou and until the moment my ranking of this games is:

1st - Gradius II: Gofer no Yabou (9.5/10)
2nd - GalagaŽ90 (9.0/10)
3rd - Gate of Thunder (8.2/10)
4rd - Soldier Blade (7.5/10)

Videos of me playing this games:

Better get Lords Of Thunder too. Yah, Gradius II is the 3rd best Gradius game IMO, right behing Gaiden and V.

Personally, I'm not a fan of Gradius II, nor the Galaga remake, but to each their own, I guess. Personally, I'd say Star Parodier and Lords of Thunder are my top contenders for Numbero Uno TG-16 shmup! The Soldier games are top-notch as well. If the R-Type port is as perfect as they say, then it's definitely my #3 pick! I've never played Gates of Thunder(looks a little generic to make it a priority), so I won't comment on that one.

I hope we get Sapphire and the Darius games sometime soon, they're top-notch as well.

I have several TG-16 shooters on both the actual turbo chip and Wii VC. They include Blazing Lazers, Raiden, R-Type, and Psychosis on chip and Soldier Blade and Gate of Thunder on VC.

Of the ones that I have played, I'll say that Gate of Thunder is the best, with Raiden, R-Type and Soldier Blade coming in second, third and fourth.

We decided to keep the forums open after we saw what a disaster the forums they set up over and NintendoLife were going to be. As a result, many of the folks from the VC-R and WWW days stayed here.

"this" never turned into anything. The forums and the VCR site were always run by different folks.

I've stayed away from those forums personally. Folks seem a little more reasonable around here...a better community.

Btw. R-type is my favorite. Followed by Soldier Blade, Lords of Thunder, and Gradius 2 in that order. Then Star Parodier. I like others but those are my favorites. There's others still that I haven't played yet that would probably make the list, but I have to speak from experience.

But yeah, they're both awesome.

Yeah ! CuteŽem ups rocks !

I hope to see Parodius on VC soon.

About Raiden, I like this series very much. VC really needs a version. I have the PS1 version (Raiden Project - a compilation with Raiden 1 and Raiden 2 arcade versions).
