THE best RPG on the VC, IMO. The whole "run into the enemy" thing really helped to make battles less monotonous, and even made things quite exciting at times!

I guess it's not so bad after all, then!

The music's fantastic! I heard it in a gameplay video.

Even though this game's gonna be remade for DS, I'd still rather have the original in VC form. It's much cheaper, and I bet the remake won't have any real significant changes.

Well I know it's going to have 3d graphics & a redo on the voice acting.

I'm not in any great rush to get the DS remake either, mainly because I played the VC one relatively recently and I don't think the DS one really changes enough to warrant a $40 purchase. I'll probably keep my eyes peeled for a used copy when the price goes down a bit (by then I might be motivated to play the game again), but like I said, no rush.

Default Rings dont change stats.

I put on a power ring and an armor (not sure of name) ring, went to the stats and didn't see a change while I was wearing them. Is this supposed to work this way or is this vc version flawed? I know if you equip other things like armor and weapons and your stats change.

Just got this the other day. Been thinkin about it for awhile because of what people said about it.

Trying to decide if I should get this or Star Paroider... they're both very different games, so I'm not sure.

EDIT: I got it, but now I have a question. At the start of the game, a fortune teller told me to get some armor, a sword, and a shield. I went and got the following things after some money-grinding, but she still said the same thing (that I need armor, a sword, and shield). why is it doing this?

Its either a glitch or be within the game design it might only detiect the lowest level sword & shield so if you havent got those versions might pay to get them .
Plus i don't know if this also another part try equiping them to .
Hopefully my advice works & hopefully you enjoy this great game .

Turned out I forgot t equip them. Took me a while to figure out what to do, I'm such an idiot sometimes =P

Really enjoying it though. Combat is very unique, with the whole idea of ramming into people to attack, and the cutscenes are amazing.

Also, 280 blocks for a Turbographx game? That's bigger than most N64 games O.o

Well CD bassed turbografx games are larger even thru the music been compressed for the virtual console release but still makes the games pretty large compaired .

I guess voice acting adds to the size too. The voice acting really surprised me actually, I was expecting the whole game to be told through text.

This is a bit off-topic, but do you know what this game really reminds me of? Vay for Sega CD. Not sure why though, considering it has a VERY different combat system, more like Phantasy Star. I have it on my iPod Touch (Yes, legally) but I would love to have it on Virtual Console... I wonder if we ever will get Sega CD games...

To anyone else considering getting Ys, if you like action RPGs, it's a must-have, but if you were never big on RPGs, this isn't going to change your mind.

Still on the first dungeon though. Haven't played this heaps, but am starting to get into it a bit more. As I said, combat is unique and fun.

One last off-topic thing I feel the need to say. I just noticed that this game was made by the same people that made my favorite PSP game, Gurumin.
