Default Nostalgia or missed gem

Just wondering how the majority of you use the VC, do you download for nostalgia i.e a great game from the past you loved playing, or do you concentrate on a system you never had a chance to play to give the classics a go you never had the chance to.

For me it's a bit of both but I'm more inclined to go for a game I've never played, can you believe I'm playing Super Metroid for the first time! Having said that I still love Bubble Bobble and Super Mario 3 and I remember playing them first time around

Missed gems. There's very little games I've downloaded that I already played before.

As a retro collector I only download games I don't think I'll buy in "real life" any time soon. As I'm now focusing on collecting Sega hardware that means I hardly download any Sega games because I want as many original Sega games as possible in my real collection. I mainly download NES, NeoGeo and TG games because I don't currently own those consoles, I download the harder to find SNES and N64 games as well, but otherwise I like to track down the originals. If I like a game on VC enough I will buy the original anyway. Nostalgia isn't a factor for me because until 10 years ago I didn't play as many games.

I have played a MAJORITY of the games throughout my lifetime, so I basically give preference to games that I did not give a chance back then, then download games that I loved as a kid, if theres nothing left I'll pick several random titles just for the fun of it.

It surely helped that I have a good friend who used to work in a video game exchange shop back then (a small independent shop) and we would borrow games when he closed up the shop (and brought it back in the morning) sadly theyve been run out of business by Gamestop/Gamecrazy

I do also collect games, but I prefer to preseve them, and nothing beats playing a NES game wirelessly with the wiimote!

I download games I think I'll enjoy enough to offset the cost. So, sometimes nostalgia (Elevator Action would not otherwise be worth $5), and sometimes missed gems (Wario's Woods is currently the most played game on my Wii).

Pretty much a bit of both. I always download the classics whenever they pop up, provided I don't have them already on some kind of compilation (i.e Sonic games and pretty much every Genesis game). But I like checking out games I've never played before and missed out on in my youth.

I missed almost every thing in the NES - n64 era. So it's all new to me. Except for a few games I've played before (DKC, SMW, SB# etc.)

I've been mostly buying TurboGrafx games because I never owned a TG16 when I was younger. But I'm generally interested in the games I let get away.

I don't see why I would re-purchase games I've previously owned, seeing as how I still own most of the games I've ever bought.

Mostly, mostly, nostalgia. The majority of the games on my VC are games I used to own (and in some cases still do own!)

Zelda, Zelda II, Zelda III, RTK IV, River City Ransom, Neutopia, Dragon's Curse, Shining Force — all games I owned.

The only games I think I've downloaded that I didn't own (missed gems) are Super Metroid and Ocarina of Time, both of which are universally considered "essentials" which is the only reason I went out on a limb for them.
